I don't know where you keep getting this information, but I do believe you are being decieved.

Also, MRE's aren't meant to be your only source of food, and they really aren't healthy in the long term. Not too mention they are super-high calorie meals, meant to be eaten in the field where the troop/survivor is undergoing high levels of physical activity. Stock up on em, yeah, but don't rely on them.

My information concerning MREs comes from the two months following Hurricane Katrina when MREs and tinned meats/veg/fruit were all we had to eat.
Now...of course I realize that MREs aren't meant to be the soul item on a "Survival Menu"...my overall point was in response to Jps comment concerning MREs being not so good taste wise...while I found them to be pretty damn tasty....of course,in the situation I was in...fried chunks of bowling pin might have seemed pretty damn tasty as well.

I used to think they were the great tasting.. fast forward almost 10 years of having to eat them on a regular basis (for 3 1/2 months straight during my 1st tour) and It has come to a point where I would almost go hungry over eating them.

YMMV of course.

The vest would cost a couple thousand $$$ if you could get one without military/LE ID. And to look like regular civilian clothing, anyone with a sewing machine and some free time and a little know how could mod it up.

In my eyes, a small price to pay for top of the line stylish protection.

Of course the styling would be a bit unnecessary in a Zombie apocalypse..unless you feel the need to appear dapper and dashing whilst strolling through the wasteland.

My uncle is a huge gun collector. I mean the guy has hundred upon hundreds of guns. Some class III stuff too. He also reloads and makes his own ammo. I remember being like 8 years old and hanging out with him and reloading 12g shotgun shells with bird shot because he was gonna go hunting soon. He lives a few hours away from me, but always tells me he can unload tons of ammo on me if I need it. I mostly shoot 9mm and .357mag and well, it is not really worth reloading 9mm since it is so dirt cheap still. I need to get a .45ACP (specifically a 1911) since he reloads that by the crap load.

He has over 30k rounds in his basement, and he has another 60k+ somewhere else. The somewhere else is his hidden cache where he keeps more of his guns and ammo. I think in post apocalypse since travel is probably going to happen a lot, I would probably stick with a lot of 9mm, and some .357, for the just in case I need a bigger bullet. Then have one of my rifles with me, .308. I do love my .357 though and I am a decent shot with it. I can do 2" groups at 25 yards with it. Though to be honest as long as you got right grip and point it straight that gun is pretty accurate by itself anyway.

Nice...I've always wanted to try my hand at reloading.
As it stands today,I have aproximently 150 rounds for my .12 Gauge and 200 rounds each for my pistols, with the exception of my .357,wich I have about 100 rounds for.
Of course,on just the street that I live on,I would guess the amount of available ammo to be +500,000 rounds,as their are two gun shops and two Wal Marts in a ten mile distance.

It has gone up in the last few years for sure. I used to pay $10 for a box of 100 rounds several years ago. I am talking about the reloading equipment/costs for 9mm don't make it all that much cheaper than buying it. At least what I have looked at. I am not really into reloading ammo at all to be honest.

He used to have his FFL and was a private dealer. He would buy in bulk sell for a profit and then keep the guns he wanted out of his purchases. I really need to go shooting with him sometime soon now that spring time is near. He has so many high powered rifles I have never shot before. The problem is for me is that I am frugal by nature so I never want to spend large amounts of money at any given time. Though it has been about 3 years since I bought my last gun (.357 revolver) and I sort of want to get rid of my cheap chinese AK74. I bought that Ak when the getting was good, $250 and while it is fun to shoot and all, it isn't really my style. Of course the rifles I want are way damn expensive. Fan of HK and SIG.

I just took inventory a few months ago when I moved, this is what I currently have at my home in ammo canisters.

885 rounds of 7.62x54R
300+ rounds of 5.56
500+ rounds of 9mm
250 .38sp+P hollow points
300 .357mag
300 .38sp wads

My wish list of guns to buy this year is:

Springfield milspec 1911
Remington 870 12ga
Remington 700 in maybe .308 not sure on this one just yet

To be honest, there really aren't any more guns I want besides those three. Maybe a nice compact .40S&W for conceal and carry, but I don't really go out that much and when I do I am on foot because I go out to drink and don't want to get a DUI and well you cannot legally carry and drink. So I got knives for that.

controlled demolition is very hard, it takes a plan, and proper execution. You cannot just dive into a dynamic situation and use explosives to win every fight. Plus, fire is your ally and your enemy as you cannot really control fire. You set something on fire, and it can get you killed really quick if it goes wrong. All of this is covered in the zombie survival guide.

I don't know if leather would do anything zombies bite hard. AND I MEAN HARD! btw what is all this talk about getting shot? zombies don't know how to use guns!

Ok, lets do an experiment then. Have a friend put on a leather work boot. Now, bite his foot as hard as you can, no pussying around either, this is for science.

Did you do it?

Ok. Now that you nearly dislocated your jaw, as well as hurt your teeth, tell me, you think a zombie can bite through biker leather? Yea, I didnt think so. Personally, if you can get your hands on tactical gear and all that fancy jazz, good leather is the next best thing.

@ Crom..

Very nice "wish list" you have there.
Personally,I'd hold on to the AK-47...but that's just me.

I had a modified SKS that I sold several years ago and still regret doing so.

My current cache consist of a Taurus PT92,a Rossi .357,an older Colt 1911 and a Mossberg 500.

The only Gun I have on my current "wish list" is a Ruger Mini-14.
