I don't know if leather would do anything zombies bite hard. AND I MEAN HARD! btw what is all this talk about getting shot? zombies don't know how to use guns!

Ok, lets do an experiment then. Have a friend put on a leather work boot. Now, bite his foot as hard as you can, no pussying around either, this is for science.

Did you do it?

Ok. Now that you nearly dislocated your jaw, as well as hurt your teeth, tell me, you think a zombie can bite through biker leather? Yea, I didnt think so. Personally, if you can get your hands on tactical gear and all that fancy jazz, good leather is the next best thing.

*cant spell*

I own a pair of Harley Davidson Enginer Boots that I doubt a lion could bite through much less a zombie...

Coupled with this...

and these...

...And I'm fairly " Bite Proof"....not to mention I'm ready for the Judas Priest Concert.

controlled demolition is very hard, it takes a plan, and proper execution. You cannot just dive into a dynamic situation and use explosives to win every fight. Plus, fire is your ally and your enemy as you cannot really control fire. You set something on fire, and it can get you killed really quick if it goes wrong. All of this is covered in the zombie survival guide.

Personally,I'd hold on to the AK-47...but that's just me.

I had a modified SKS that I sold several years ago and still regret doing so.

My current cache consist of a Taurus PT92,a Rossi .357,an older Colt 1911 and a Mossberg 500.

The only Gun I have on my current "wish list" is a Ruger Mini-14.

I want a 1911 pretty badly, but am not sure I really want to drop $1000 on one. The milspec springfiled seems pretty standard and pretty solid and starts at around $600 or so. I could always add on to it later on.

Your right about prices concerning the older 1911s..I did some researching a while back and was stuned at what they are going for...but they are amazingly rugged firearms.

Um... thanks?

A friend of mine and I were talking about one day dragging out everything we own for a group shot... this was quickly found to be impossible cause neither of us had enough floor space in either of our living rooms.

Allow me to rephrase my initial statement... I'm quiet envious of your collection, each time I see it I "want" it..but alas, the Missus already thinks I have "enough guns"...Buying one more is about all I can hope for...for now.

Reminds me of a scene in a really bad movie where a some guys attempt a driveby but the victim pulls out a gun too causing the first guy to pull out a bigger gun so the 2nd guy pulls out a machine gun then the first guy pulls out an RPG so the 2nd guy goes and opens up his van to reveal a nuclear missile.

Wait are you into the 1911 design or the .45ACP?
-1911 design, think Round Rock Arms. Its substantially cheaper. I'd spring for better sights though.

-.45ACP? Look at Springfield's .45 XD line. Also FNH (I thhhiiiiink FNH is cheaper but don't recollect). Taurus may have as well. Sigs have a .45 but Sigs are only cheaper than guns made of pure gold

I really admire the classic engineering that is the 1911, that it has withstood the test of time and is still a very well designed an practical firearm. I tend to have a sentimental value to certain things. This year marks it's 100th anniversary. I also like almost every spring field I have rented and fired at the range. I shot the XD line, and I think they are solid. Springfield has been around forever as well. I also like how 1911 parts are interchangeable in many cases. I mean you can find all sorts of parts for them all over the place.

I also like the .45 ACP round as well. I have fired speed/target loads and I have fired higher velocity loads thanks to my friends/family that load their own ammo. I like the simple design of the milspec and like the fact that it follows the standard 1911 design. I am open to any and all suggestions though.

Again River Rock Arms make a very inexpensive journeyman's .45ACP, I think for less than US$500. I'd pay the freight and get a half decent sight put on it (about $30) at your local smith, and you're good for most things outside of competitions. Plus the design is classic 1911 - aka GI style without big beavertails et al.

LLama used to make a .45ACP that was similar, but I've heard good things about RRA.

I'll have to do some digging around.

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

While the 1911 is pretty awesome, think about magazine capacity. For example, the XD .45 comes with 13-rounders (unless you're in Banifornia), while the 1911's mags hold 8. I don't know about you, but the less I have to reload, the better.

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

This is very true..and from what I saw the prices are pretty nice as well.

@ Frazz..

I heard that the Lamma .45 had some issues with jams...but that was some time ago.

@ Frazz:

Sadly, when it comes to 1911's, cheap and good don't go hand in hand.

HOWEVER...

Springfield does make a bare bones GI 1911 that is pretty much the exact same thing the army used to issue. No bells or whistles, but goes for around $400-500 US.

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=gi+1911&hl=en&safe=off&prmd=ivnsfd&biw=1024&bih=578&bav=on.2,or.&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=13917676166106231065&sa=X&ei=LRRvTcHqGIfEsAOi5eW_Cw&ved=0CGAQ8wIwAw#

It is a great start if you plan to slowly upgrade over time.

I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

I used to think about magazine capacity a lot more than I do these days. My 9mm holds 16 (15 in the mag + 1 in the pipe) rounds, and I think the XD 9mm holds 20. Then I got my first revolver, and I shoot like probably 10 to 15 percent more accurate with it over my semi autos. I don't know why, maybe it is they are easier to be more accurate? My revolver holds 7 rounds, and shoots .357mag. If it didn't have a huge ass barrel it would be my carry piece. In all honesty in most situations you will get in, outside of urban warfare, you shouldn't need to actually unload a full magazine.

I've been mugged twice in my life, both times at knife point. Both times I gladly handed over my cash in my pocket over getting stabbed. If I had actually had my guns on me, I would have probably still given over the cash in my pocket, because both times the dudes got the jump on me. Both times I was drunk too, so I was an easy target.

I am not sure I subscribe to the idea that you need to have a gun with a high capacity magazine. If I have to defend myself in a home invasion situation, I feel pretty confident I would only need one shot if it really came down to it. Having 6 more just in case is just a bonus.

However, I do agree with you that the Springfield XD line is pretty damn sweet. I just really want a 1911. Call me old school, I dunno, but I really like old designs that still hold up to today's standards. To me it means that they were designed so well to begin with, they are still used 100 years later, and I think that is cool.

Sadly, when it comes to 1911's, cheap and good don't go hand in hand.

HOWEVER...

Springfield does make a bare bones GI 1911 that is pretty much the exact same thing the army used to issue. No bells or whistles, but goes for around $400-500 US.

It is a great start if you plan to slowly upgrade over time.

Yup that is the 1911 I was looking at, though I think the one I was looking at was also parkerized.

Way out of the price league here but STI International has excellent competition level double column .45s (ok they're made for competition so one would hope they're competition level). I think there is a Canadian company that does so as well.

Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

Best 1911 I have ever shot is my Colt MkIV Series 70 gold cup national match. (Pictured above with matching colt .22 conversion kit)

Even with ultra crap plinking rounds I was one chasing a tin can around the yard one handed.
