competition guns are good, but I think your average well built gun is just as good

Agreed. I was just noting STI does make a double column line of 1911s.

Any of the above will blow anything you can buy direct off the shelf completely out of the water hands down.

1. bear in mind I can't see the pics as they are blocked at work.
2. Again, I think the primary issue he's noting is not for target shooting but real use, and on a somewhat tight budget. Sure an STI or a Wilson Combat will be better guns, but when you're on a Taurus budget you go for what you can get.

Besides...In the scenario being discussed in this thread,competition/target shooting (though accuracy is important) isn't the real point,it's about being able to get the "head shot",and while my Taurus isn't a "top tier" pistol...I can hit my target at 30+ yards every time.

I personally find nothing wrong with Taurus. I own their .38 ultralight and simply love it.

It is what I usually carry with me everywhere I go.

That was just an expression JP, denoting Taurus's reputation of good inexpensive firearms vs. Wilson's extremely good but extremely expensive pistols.

Oh..Don't get me wrong,I love my Taurus,it's my primary "Travel Firearm"..
I'm just saying that it's clearly not a " Professional Target Pistol".

In the zombie apocalypse are you going to carry around a competition pistol? What happens when you need parts? I am not saying they aren't nice guns. I am saying 2" groups at 25 yards with a hand gun is all you need. If you can get .25 inch groups then that is awesome. I am looking for functionality and in the case of a zombie uprising, or whatever, I want gun I can easily salvage parts for.

Just my opinion is all.

I'm going with Crom on this one,in the case of complete social breakdown..the rugged/reliable/repairable weapons trump "State of the Art" every time.

Yes I will. I carry my 1911 around now and will continue to do so when the zeds pop up. Though I will use a much bigger mag though.

Most comp guns are nothing more then upgraded stock weapons. The 1911 in the above photo is just that. A 1911. It just has an upgraded trigger, barrel, porting, sights, sight rail, grip ect ect.

Well I will defer to your firearms prowess. I am a hobbyist at best, but I do read a lot and retain information very well. I just don't really have a desire for high end target pistols, when the regular pistols still shoot pretty accurately and still kill the same. My buddy has a Kimber and a Colt 1911. Both are nice guns. We went to the range one day and I rented a Springfield 1911, your basic joe $500 to $600 1911. I was putting the same groups in the same targets at the same distance pretty much with every gun. My analysis was that the springfield was heavier, but felt more solid, the Kimber was the lightest of them and had really smooth action, but the trigger on the Colt felt the best.

Different strokes for different folks, and when I buy firearms I buy them in the regard that I may have to use them. I like guns that use standard sets of parts so I can find them anywhere. Don't get me wrong, custom is really cool and I dig'em, but I don't think I am going to drop tons and tons of money on custom unless I get really wealthy. Good old classics that work every time a trigger is pulled and are fairly accurate is all I need/want.

My mate recently discovered that his original plan to bunker at our local golf course was not as effective as he originally planned...

He discovered that one of Sydney's oldest cemetaries was in fact in the woodland nearby... unless you know it is there, it is not apparent that it still exists...

This simple fact over-ruled all his careful planning:

The previous plan was to make for the nearby golf course.

It is next to a gun range and has lots of supplies, along with a generator, access to the sea, a fresh water supply and a clear line of sight all around.

Anything else that is missing?

I have 2 plans. Plan 1 involves joining my friends convoy into the desert. Plan 2 involves surviving dwindling navy resources. on a boat that will only be able to pull into a port one more time, and never leave afterward.

If my origional plan would fail ( it probably would) I would probably set off with a group of survivors to rid the world of the flesh eaters. Loot a huge a tank. Get vital supplies.
modify the tank with extra firepower. During the zombie apocolypse if there ain't other people you might as well be a zombie. So rid the world of zombies repopulate the world. and kick the ass of the punk who started it ( if he's still alive).

I'd run around in circles screaming "ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG".
Nah, I'd barricade a small hospital, with as many survivors as I could, with a cricket bat (better die with dignity), a SPAS-12 with lots of ammo, a satellite phone, lots of food, grenades, a two-way radio and a heck of a lot of molotov cocktails/petrol bombs.
That and an exterminatus bombardment waiting in orbit to let rip when I die.
That and Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
And Will Smith.

You are assuming that you or your friends actually possess the skills and resources to access this... and that the military are not defending the tank you set about to 'loot' themselves...

With a plan this flawed, you may as well become a zombie.

As above, except that you assume that the Satellite phone network continues to operate and not bill your account to $0... how would you get electronic funds into your account otherwise? Do you have access to the bank deposit system to keep your account topped up?

The best solution is not to rely too heavily on complex technology...
