Quite possibly. But only one of them has visible chest bumps. The other four marines are all wearing their breastplates (no pun intended...), and any physical differences are hidden away.

Well, the one with the "U" on the shoulder pad isn't in full armor or even close so who knows what's going on there. As for the one actually in full armor, she looks like she has a Dark Angel logo on her shoulder so obviously she's part of the Heretic faction of that cursed legion.

Considering we recently had Zombicide Invader and its "marines" (not to also mention Mutant Chronicles some time back), I can't a see a problem with reissuing Space Crusade by filing off the serial numbers.

I think the woman who isn't in full armour is meant to be a Scout. Like the guy on the top-left.

That picture as a whole gives me 'Cowboy Bebop At His Computer' vibes. And yet... so cool.

If we get a serial-numbers-filed-off version of Space Crusade, I demand that it be the legendary non-violent German version (Starquest?) in which all the enemies were supposedly robots and all the weapons just froze them or disabled them instead of killing them. In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, there is only Saturday morning cartoon crowd control.

Mostly just the Fimir, I think?

Very little to be honest.

Chaos Warrior, Chaos Sorceror and Fimir were the only things close to being GW. And the map from the back of the Kellar’s Keep quest book. The rest was Generic Fantasy, so just needed to move away from GW’s aesthetic.

Thing is, for Space Crusade to gain similar traction, it needs the Space Crusade name. We can reasonably demonstrate GW had some rights to use that independent of MB/Hasbro, because of Advanced Space Crusade, and indeed them publishing new missions in White Dwarf way back when.

What that agreement was? I don’t think anyone here can really say. And has the Space Crusade name been retained by either party or adopted by another party? I honestly don’t know.

But models aside, if you want to create hype for Space Crusade, you gotta call it Space Crusade, no?

What was that game carrying the Space Crusade name that was '18+' and looked as dodgy as hell?

Possibly. At best, I'd say the artist took some serious license in adapting it or at worst was drunk and decided to do the opposite in terms of area covered for same era scouts. That said... The cover of the magazine is IMO better than the official box art in terms of proportion and overall realism and I prefer it heresy and all.

Probably all of it given the recent sewage issues there in Nottingham unless they want to risk typhoid or cholera.

I agree A Space Crusade redux would be awesome, but 2 major issues arise regarding that.

1. Would it really be the same without the GW art, figs and fluff?

2. Would there be enough interest since Space Crusade was never released in the USA?

Well.

One has to assume it boils down to who owns the rights to what.

The models? Very likely GW.

The rules and that? It’s my understanding one can’t copyright rules - I accept I’m possibly misinformed.

The game title? Well. Who knows.

But if HQ starts making regular retail waves, I don’t see GW not flexing their IP and facilities to produce some form of the game we know as Space Crusade? The same for Hasbro really.

My point is that unless some partnership is formed it's likely that all Hasbro has rights to is the printed material with GW IP removed.

As we've seen with Heroquest, the GW fantasy IP is easily stripped from a relatively generic fantasy game and the result is a fine game, arguably as good as the original. I don't think that what remains of Space Crusade after removal and replacement of all 40k material would be nearly as good.

When it came to making the art for that magazine cover they wouldn't have cared beyond the review copy of the game provided by Gremlin Graphics. The magazine editor probably said to the artist "its a bit like Aliens...give us something like that", and showed them box cover and maybe watched someone else play the game for a few minutes.

The UK home computer market was very "punk" at the time, with magazine and box art that bore no resemblance to the characters in a game - especially the Japanese arcade conversions.

The gargoyle had the design from GW Bloodthirster as well. Never understood why they called it "gargoyle" in the Hasbro game as it plays and acts very much like the toughest monster of the game, fitting for a major demon.

Hey Warboss, that's NOT Space Crusade; that's ADVANCED Space Crusade, which is a whole other ball of wax.

This is the game we're referencing; it has space marines (no scouts that I know of ) and as foes has CSM, genestealers, "androids" - I think proto-necrons, a Dreadnought (more like the 'bot from Robocop), and Space Orks & goblins battling on a rather standard spaceship board. Advanced Space Crusade was exclusively Tyranid Warrior enemies, fighting on a modular, multi-path hive ship.

GW nor Hasbro own it here, Hasbro did until 1996 when it then went defunct until Achron/Prodos trademarked Space Crusade and Space Crusaders with all the toy and games associated in class 28, which runs from 2013 - 2023, but their is a Spanish guy thats also has a claim on Space Crusade but its mainly for different classes #9 & #16, artist materials and sound/video recording devices, it does state class 28 too which is toys and games!

It is the nature of these things to get excited about what you don't have, rather than what you do have.

Though in that vein, I'll probably buy all four of the remade expansions if they get around to them. I'm not in love with Hasbro's stylistic take (wayward, I would call it), but four different enemy wizard characters and a bunch of ogres will still be awesome. And I never got to play them as a kid, I didn't even know they existed.

No kidding. I had the Kellar's Keep and Ogre Horde expansions back in the day. Did I feel special for owning what I later found out was a rare and sought-after expansion? Nope. I suffered perennial disappointment that I never got Return of the Witch Lord, which was the one I'd actually wanted but had disappeared from shop shelves by the time my birthday rolled around.

(Finally played through Witch Lord as an adult and it was great.)

Against the Ogre Horde will kill you deader than a bone-coloured plastic skellie. Pro tip (spoilery for hero players):
Spoiler:

Don't go into any room with a treasure chest and a lone Zombie. You'll regret it.

Wizards of Morcar isn't much of a campaign, though. It's more like a kit of cool extras. All those new Spells, hiring Men-at-Arms (hey, a use for all that gold you collected and the Champion status!), evil sorcerers... it's all great for sprucing up existing Quests, giving the Wizard a way to advance beyond his limited item purchases, and making your own adventures.

If Hasbro remakes those two, I'm curious to see how they'll translate to the American ruleset.

Just had our first session. Heroquest remains a very satisfying game!

Players blew it horribly at first. Party split up, didn’t block doors, and fielded three casty characters (Druid, Wizard and Warlock). Barbarian got slapped down really quickly, as they let him get surrounded.

Second time around? They were organised. Warlock swapped out for the Elf.

I must say I don’t remember the U.K. version giving anyone but the Gargoyle and Sorceror multiple body points. Dread Warriors are pretty vicious when you need to stab them three times!

Next week we pick up where we left off, and hopefully crash through a couple of quests.

Heroquest. Chicken Soup for the Wargamer’s soul.

This is a true statement. Unless you're very jaded or just REALLLLY not a fan of simple games, Heroquest is just a plain old good time. Glad to hear your group got it together.

Heroquest. A low-calorie treat that actually satisfies.
