What a terrible idea, only made worse by the apparent twist in this version... how much better off the world would have been had he never been born Really? That's their angle? That's horrible.

It sounds a lot like the 150,000 Christmas Specials that circulate on the Hallmark Channel, Lifetime Network, and TNT between Thanksgiving and New Years. I'll pass.
Unless there is full frontal, naturally.

They already did. The entire "of the Dead" series from the 2000's is remakes of the original sequels and then sequels to those sequel remakes.

And then they'll make remakes of those sequels and sequels to those remakes. Now we are potentially getting into a recursion of sequels and remakes.

Yeah, as much as any enjoyment of this film has been ground down by repeated viewing; this is pretty sad. And it's going to do great, because people are idiots. And then even more of this sort of crap is going to happen.
Aside from Christmas Vacation, holiday movies can just suck it.
.... and if I am drunk enough, Jingle All the Way.

Wasn't this the film that only became a classic because no one bothered to copywrite it properly so the networks could show it every Christmas for free?

To derive from a known success is all the "risk" they can handle these days.
You leave the new ideas to all the independent videos out there, or freaky people on YouTube.
In the past they depended on the word of mouth to take at least a week before everyone knew it was garbage, just in time to make their money and a bit of profit. I suspect heavy advertising with "see it now!" before you find out it sucks!

I'll take somewhat of a contrary opinion and say that Hollywood sometimes shows too much tolerance for risk. Disney shouldn't have given movies like John Carter and The Lone Ranger $250 million budgets, for instance.

I wouldn't define building off of a pre-established IP a 'risk', exactly. I would just chalk that up to poor market research/making bad movies.
And reposting my opinion from Facebook here - The only way this could be worth watching were if it was directed by David Lynch and Toto was doing the soundtrack. And young Arnold Schwarzenegger was playing George Bailey. And the Angel was played by Olivia Wilde. And it had a totally different storyline.

Every time they remake a classic I think they must have a tiny sack, or they remake Blazing Saddles. Think about the free ads, paid for by every uptight no humor Rights Group there is. The gak storm would be great.
P.S. Did anybody really like It's a Wonderful Life, it is almost as bad as the one with Santa kicking the kid down the slide.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor. |

For shame! A Christmas Story is great! Granted, TBS running it for 24 hours is a bit much every year, but as far as holiday movies go its on my short list of not-crap movies.

Too bad the people that did that movie didn't do their research, or else they would have known that Christmas Story already had a sequal DarkTraveler777 wrote:Noir wrote:P.S. I can't stand A Christmas Story, I realize that saying that I'm basically worse than Hitler and spitting on one of the few things that Cleveland has to be proud of, but TBS fething ruined it for me by showing nothing but that movie for 24 hours. Do you know what's on at 3 to 6 am on Christmas? That and crappy infomercials. ugh, just because a kid can't sleep on Christmas doesn't mean you have to torture him with bad tv!
