Jump pack troopers to compete with the wraiths.
I agree with Cthulu though, they are named after guards, so maybe they are shields? The rumors pointed to a lot of "tesla" names, maybe they where going for that effect as well?

You have it backwards. Both Egypt and the Incas had a Necron look because both cultures worshipped the Necrons as their 'Space Gods'.
You, sir, win the internets for the day.

Obviously, the necrontyr physiology is quite different to ours.
Interesting to note that the praetorians, assumingly fairly high ranking individuals, appear to have the largest "tail-bone".

Wow... It certainly looks like people will no longer have any reason to complain about lack of variety in the Necron codex. That's a whole boatload of new stuff.
I'm not keen on the Command Barge, but everything else looks sweet.
The trick for me is going to be figuring out how to build all of these new units from my old 2nd edition Necrons

Some of you nay-sayers, stop for a moment. You're entitled to your opinion, that's fine, but think of this from a designers point of view, and ask yourself - 'How can I differentiate enough looks for a bunch of skeletal robots so that they can be easily identified at arms length? And by people that may not have read all about them?' What would you do?
They're doing a very basic iconography with the silhouettes of the Necrons. The basic warrior is the simplest, the silhouette gets more complex as you go up the chain of command. It makes sense to add different shapes to areas on a model as a graphic and identifiable way to discern different troop types - especially when they're so small and seen in relatively large groups.
I think everything looks pretty dang great. I'm not a Necron player and likely won't ever be, but the amount of infantry types and the new vehicles look very good.

Really liking the new infantry, Deathmarks and Immortals in particular.
Vehicles and characters look a bit crap.
The Ghost Ark is a direct copy+paste of the cylon resurrection ship from Battlestar Galactica, right down to the angles.
