Subject: A question for gun owner and people in the military.
This is kind of a weird question, but if you have ever played dark heresy, you will probably know why I am asking. I don't have any guns, so I lack this knowledge, but I thought I might ask dakka. I need to know how much a variety of things weigh:
*A small bullet used in revolvers or other pistols
*A basic bullet used in rifles. This could be just a regular hunting rifle, but if anyone in the military is here the weight of a bullet used in a millitary rifle would be apprecated.
*A (un-fired) shotgun shell with the solid ball (buck shot I think it's called).
*A .5 (1/2") caliber bullet.
*A .75 (3/4") caliber bullet.
Thank you in advance

All depends...
I hate to be petty, but which bullet, and dI asume you don't mean bullet, but the cartridge. The bullet is the little bit of lead (Or other material) that is fired out of the gun.
Secondly, a little bit of "Gun fact". The answer in the grand scale of things, apart from the last two, is "Not much". But heres some info that might help in your search.
Lets assume you mean the full weight of the round, with basic ammunition. The widest range is the first. Pistols can range from a little .17 rimfire up to things that fire massive things like the .357 Magnum, in which the bullet (but not the cartage) is larger than the basic 5.56 NATO & 7.62 NATO rounds.
Rifles are a little easier, because you give a little more info. You are probably referring to the 5.56 NATO & 7.62 NATO rounds, or the .308 win.
Shotgun shell, sounds like your looking for a basic buckshot in a 12 guage. Just look for shotgun shell.
For the larger caliber, look up .50 BMG round.
For a .75 you are going to be struggling to find anything as over .50 is very uncommon.
I don;t have time to give you weights, but I think you are probably best looking them up yourself as you know what you need and can look at all the choices.

0.75 is just under 20mm so you are basically looking at light AAA.

Most of these are answered here, helpfully already convered from grams to ounces and grams. It covers two common pistol rounds (9mm, .45), a military rifle round (.223), 2 common hunting rifle rounds (.308 and 30.06) and a 12ga shotgun shell. Note that shells can be loaded with shot, or a solid slug, often called a deer slug.
.50 cal comes in two sizes - the handgun round, called 50 action express. They go about 20 grams. This is a fairly rare ammunition. You probably mean 50 BMG, which is used in machine guns and long range sniper rifles. Those go between 42 and 52 grams.
As far as I know, there are no .75 caliber bullets - anything with a bore over .50, other than shotgun shells, is considered by the ATF to be a "destructive device" and requires a special tax stamp and some paperwork. As there is no utility to such a caliber and so many headaches to acquiring one, there is no real reason to make or sell such a weapon.

Ill try to post a pic of different calibers next to a popular model to give you a size perspective....look for it tonight.....
Just got back from a late night welding class, so please forgive the poor lighting in the pics below, it was the best I could do on short notice and this late at night.
Common pistol calibers, from left to right:
22LR, 9MM hollow point bullet, 9MM snap cap (a fake round used for training), .45 caliber bullet, .45 caliber ACP round
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Common rifle calibers from left to right:
22LR, .223 55gr FMJ bullet, 5.56 62gr (really a .223 bullet that is 62gr in a 5.56 brass case),
More common rifle calibers from left to right:
5.56 62gr round, 30 caliber 308 150gr spitzer bullet, 30-30 round nose round, 8MM Mauser 180gr spitzer bullet, 8M Mauser round, .50 caliber BMG round.
12 gauge shotgun shell snap cap (a fake round used for training):
Old GW lore was that the Space Marines fired caseless .50 caliber ammunition from their bolters. Of course, subsequent art showed spent cases ejecting from the bolters LOL.
Anyway, this should give you a visual clarification on the size of the more common firearm rounds.

Maybe in the US, where they won't let you have anything larger than a peashooter without masses of extra paperwork and taxation ...

Looks like a painful way to fire bullets vaguely in the direction of your target.

"Rifle" cartages on the top row, "pistol" rounds on the bottom (I know, I know, many technicalities wrong with that, but I didn't make the split, and is as accurate as any other definition)

Yeah, I wouldn't have noticed it, but his other hand is just sort of... there.
Also, please someone tell me he's talking to a camera he set up on a tripod, NOT to an actual human being that he's shooting past and in one case aiming a loaded, off-safety gun directly at. The camera is too steady for it to be handheld but I suppose there could be some poor bastard with a tripod.....

I guess it seems I know less about guns than I thought! Although my knowledge on guns pretty much extends to pull trigger and the explodey thing shoots a piece of metal that kills things (or in the case of orks, the gun just explodes).
