If anything, I think the mods are a little quick to close threads, but I understand that’s my personal opinion and they’re the ones doing the hard yards, so it gets to be their opinion that stands.

That said, Dakka certainly deserves its reputation as churlish place, where real debate is scarce. But that’s a cultural thing that can’t be moderated into a forum, it’s something the members have to take on for themselves. It will change when the members stop accepting and contributing to poor debate.

That sums up my thoughts completely.

I would love to see this so called lenient side of Dakka. I wasn’t here long and got blasted for improper posting and warnings toward the fact of get it right or face a ban.

Not to mention that if I get heated in a discussion its not long before the tread is locked or as I have been told doesn’t happen the tread is removed. I find it funny that Dakka has some outstanding MODS like Frazzled.(Gotta love the frazz) It just seems this lenient side picks who they are lenient to.

Lets not forget I do love our humble Admins. Its just some of the MODS I take issue with.

Did you post something with language that would turn a movie from G to PG-13?

If so: Improper.

Did you post something with images that would turn a movie from G to PG-13?

If so: Improper.

Yakface's goal with Dakka is to make an environment that you wouldn't mind letting your kid read every so often.

People posting softcore porn, calling each other witches, etc doesn't really fit that goal.

Now come on Im just boring not offensive. If I remeber all the details right. I posted an image wrong and got the evil eye for it.
Plus the tread is no longer around to prove my point.
then I was trying to defend myself and got this warning.
"And since "ip vin snarller dehizvin" decided to take this "joke" public, let me just say that further "jokes" like this are a quick way to earn a one way ticket out of Dakka for a long time, if not forever. "

Its really just a few MODS that hunt down those they do not like and make sure to have reason to ban said person. Such as myself.
I think Dakka would be much better off if the great MODS could do their jobs. Its just that they have their hands tied with cleaning up the messes of The racist MODS.

I'm pretty sure none of the mods know what race you are therefore, there opinions are based on something a lot less bias.

If you "posted an image wrong" you wouldn't have been warned.
If you posted an inappropriate image? Oh hell yes, you would have been warned. Especially if the image was racist or--again--inappropriate.

I just looked through the mod log. You are being overtly moany - you have not had a warning since around September 09. Your original warnings were because you just jumped in and failed to read the rules and FAQs of the site, violating rules from image attachments in the wrong places to poor spelling and formatting, and also made a pointless news post that would confuse and annoy people (from what I gather). Like I say, you've not had anything flagged since September 09 beyond a couple of swap shop thread title edits, so I'd say things are working exactly as they should be for you and you are being overly sensitive now.

Adequate moderation is probably a hard balance, after all it requires a certain measure of subjective judgement, and I fear it's almost impossible to achieve. How can the moderators hope to form an effective filter if some are themselves po-faced dunces and/or boorish imbeciles? I think this is the crux.

On the positive Jazz's creation of the Is Frazzled the Biggest gakker on Dakka was priceless.

Im willing to be destroyed aslong as the disease is gone.

TBH i find it abit hilarious that out of all people , you have the face to bring this up to me. Certainly you are a troll.

You do realize that there are more than just absolute draconian control and total irresponsibility correct? This isn't a black and white issue.

Who ever said it was black and white? I just said , a balance is easiest achieved if everyone is treated equally ,
leniency to some might be seen as favoritism.

Your previous post seemed to imply that you disliked it because you are harassed often.

Well thats your opinion. I like Dakka's members , and i dislike the people that harasses me. Shoulnt be that hard to comprehend?

Unless you're a Mod you don't actually know who's been reported how many times. We might note that here.
I think Malf's the most reported, as I report him on a daily basis and will continue to do so until my socks are returned. Bastard!

Different board subforums are moderated more heavily. The painting/conversion forums are sacrosanct and several Mods, myself included, take a personal interest in maintaining a strong hand there. otyher forums less so: OT and YMDC. Should we moderate more-probably. But then it would be a full time job and half the guys there would be gone.

If people cannot follow the rules or can't stand the 'feel' of the forums feel free to wander off and set up your own website.

Stelek did so and from all I can gather is having a great time with it.

As a free forum I'd say the only people with a 'right' to gripe are the employees and those who have ponied up the cash to become DCMs and have a monetary stake in dakka to help support it.

I've been here over 10 years and dakka has had its ups and downs.
it has always been rather hard nosed until you become a regular and people start to understand your posting style. That was alot easier years ago when we had many less members.

Dakka is growing at a tremendous rate, and at last count was the fastest growing of the 'major' GW forums in terms of membership.

Dakkadakka is a really nice forum. The debate is vibrant, even though people don't always seem to agree with each other. I confess that getting trolled by what is quite likely a bored 13 year-old boy is slightly annoying, but that sort of thing happens anywhere on the internet and can't be helped. @ OP: I've also disagreed with a few of the mods on this forum, but they're just doing their jobs as best they can. None of them have ever come across as obvious or malicious trolls, at least not to my mind.

I can honestly say that it's been of the best forums i've ever been on...Of course it has its fair share of trolls and such, but i don't think anyone here can say they never troll'd anyone at least once...

On the overall, i think the MOD team does a good job and Dakka is quite well-kept, and doing that from a shorter leash would only crush debates and discussions that (while sometimes overheated) serve to show even over the Internet who a person really is, what they think and believe.

If someone doesn't like it, it's a free world, and there are lots of other forums to go to, it's not like your browser doesn't accept any other links than "DakkaDakka.com"

Also, there's that handy "Ignore" button down there, which you can feel free to press at any time, should you not like a user's post, his sig, his avatar. his username or whatever. And although i've never used it (i'm very hard to offend), i think it's one the best features around here

So, my vote goes high up there. Good job Dakka and you people around here! (or at least the most of you)

Also, from the OP stance, I believing you are seeing a very small minority who are causing trouble over and over without any indication that the Mods are doing anything ... however I think you'll find that in these cases wheels are turning behind the scene's by Mods who collect their evidence before taking any action. There is already at least one thread I know of thats been taken into the Mod forum to be looked at, I know this because the thread is visible on the screen but we don't have permission to see it

Mods do the best they can with the resources they have. Lets remember that Dakka is a free site and the Mod team are modding in their personal time.

The fact that they don't tell us about it, doesn't mean its not happening, they are protecting privacy and its none of our business to know publically what xyz has been banned for. The above is something I think makes our Mod team better than any other website.

Best thing to do, is keep hitting that alert button and let the Mods do their thing, if you feel they are not doing their jobs then IM Yakface our Benevolent Overlord and he will see if action needs to be taken.

I've seen in many instances, a poster who repeatively disrupts the boards magically disappear overnight without a word or a scream into the night, only to reappear a month later.

Chin up Ip Vin, its not all grimdark Don't let the minority get you down from what is an excellent source of information, opinion and discussion.

Out of interest, is there anyway to find out how many times your been reported via alert button for a single post or overall? I'm curious to know, hehe, I expect it to be in the two figures at least

This post has saved me alot of writing.

90+ percent of all moderation is never seen by regular users unless they are being contacted directly for warnings/suspensions. We do our best not to discuss suspensions/bannings as it is not for other members to chatter about in their sewing circles.

We do moderating in our free time because we want to invest in a great resource that has given us so much over the years. Moderators are selected after long discussion amongst the admins and moderator team. There have been candidates who have declined the offer. Some of us have been here for over a decade, some a couple years, all have shown that they can be level headed and wish to contribute above and beyond what a regular user does.

Hitting the alert button is the best way to get our attention quickly.

As to the number of alerts- Lego may have a record somewhere. our main moderation tool is the user case files forum where the mods can list what a user has done, what action was taken and why. That way all mods can intervene/discuss issues about users/disciplinary action and what 'level' they are at in terms of warnings/suspensions/ban. And if you show that over a period of time you can post without generating drama your setting on that scale can/is wound back. We aren't ogres who want to stamp out users for the hell of it. Act responsibly and you get leeway, act like a nutcase/tool/paranoid hissy fitter and things will not end up well. But the last sentence applies to any forum.

I like arguing, i dont see the problem, i even like Shuma and i dont agree with him on anything, maybe its because im from the north east and 99% of my drinking buddies dont agree with me on anything either, im just used to dealing with constant aggro!

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

Except for the off topic forum i almost never see trolling, flaming, or arguing.

We might debate some minor subtleties in our different builds but i have never seen it turn into a flame war. Of course i only use the fantasy sections so the 40k crowd might be different.

The 40k crowd is different because it is much larger and so is more likely to gather people of diometrically opposite views.

Also WHFB until last year and the last few army books, tended to be much better written and clearer in its rules.

I've found Dakka both extremely useful and highly entertaining over the year and a bit I've been on here.
Everyone is pretty nice on the whole and if not then they're usually funny. Also a good flame war is great fun to watch .
I think the Mods do sterling work curbing the worst excesses of some and would like to thank them for it. It must be a blooming hard job.
