I add detail to my wings by gluing on cut out bits of 0.5mm plasticard sheet - though I have used a file to add in additional lines I obviously didn't think were necessary to begin with...

I like your Rokkit idea (might steal that in the future , and your wings. Dubious about jet engines on the end of the wings - especially with the large one on the back - but under the new wings, between the body and the rokkit position might work - hard to tell without seeing it really

Arakasi - i do add some bits on after but mainly just bolts and occasional a panel to look like a patch up I've got some 0.5mm ill see what it looks like
I'm gonna build the wings in stages upto the rokkits will be the first part, then omce thats doen i see whats best before moving on
also having seen a fraction of your work its a big thread to get trough all in one go im honored you want to loot an idea of mine

als promised pic of undershot will still need some more work once the rest of the wing is done

Whoops - I didn't realise I was looking at it upside down

I know what its like for plans to change mid stream - and taste varies - I don't make "suggestions" so much as "observations of what I might try". (and I try not to comment when I don't have anything to add, I mean observe...)

Plus I have to leave room for others to have ideas I can loot

Good luck getting through my thread - its turned into a monster! But more importantly, don't let it distract you from your own work generating ideas for me to loot...

@Arakasi - lootin is what orks do best

work done so far
I've completed and cleaned up the first part of the wings filled in the holes where the original shootas where going and added a fuel tank
forgot to take a pic of the first part of the wing being complete but its not that much to see since the I beam was most of the wing anyway i just a piece of plastic card on the top of the I beam and bent it down to the under part of the wing btu you can see btis of it in the rest of the pics

fuel tank

now for the jets on the wings i tested out 2 different ideas and done a quick build of both
either jets on the tip of the wings or under the wing

both of them can be removed and both are just the basic shape for now, i like both and will think about it some more seeing as i still need to look for a spot to add the buzz saw

also some other little model I've been working on.
I wanted to make a model for my mate just because and also to tell him thank you for getting me into the hobby (I've never before enjoyed cutting my finger tips and being broke as much as I do now)
so i looked in my bits box and wanted to make an ork that stand out a bit more than the normal boys
using the stump from one of the shoots and my big shoota boy and some otehr bits ive so far come up with this

the gun is a normal big shoota arm with the barrel removed some plastic piping for a new barrel and the ammo clip from a terminator bolter from my AoBR
the body is part normal boy legs and the torso on a Aobr Biggshoota boy

I'm having some trouble giving him a great coat out of Green stuff its either so sticky i keep puling it off the body or too set to merge the lines i might end up going for a flack vest instead as the main area of concern was the flapping parts of the great coat will try that this week end when I've got alot more free time will post pics as i progress

right its been along while and in fact i had to stop working on my orks cause i lost the camera transfer cable I've got a few pics i took last month (yes it took me that long to go buy a usb transfer cable) also i would have posted this yesterday but a mate of mine was kind enough to give me a concussion I've still got a slight headache to had but got fed up to staring at the ceiling

so if i can remember what i took pics of

Firstly i finished the ork model i was making for a another friend of mine he is in turn going try and make me a teleporta objective marker will post pics when he hands it over

so the ork gift model:

I'm getting better at green stuffing didn't find this nearly as difficult as i used to find it but I've still got a long way to go

on my defffigthas I decided to go for option A simply because of linE of sight rules option b would have left a larger wing span but honestly since these fly and ar above most of my otehr units lien of sigth will always be an issue

Sorry about the focus didn't notice till today how off it was ill try to correct this

im thinking of using option B on one of my last 2 defffigthas but i was also considering this

that it really on the modelling side since i had no camera wire i held back but have been doing so ideas ive got my self a deffdread and a box of nobz
the deff dread I've got an idea from 'His Master's Voice' thread : http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/120/249963.page
only I'm going to paint mine grey and call him waaaagh mashine 2 cc dread arms and 2 big shoots meaning 1TL big shoots which i will put on his shoulder
the only issue i see those arms look to be defiler and I'm but buying a box just for the arms but im sure i can scratch build to arms if not I've got a small stapler laying about which will get used

another thing that has happened since my previous update i played a game with my army 750 vs CSM had to pack up before we was finished so we agreed on a draw it was only a friendly anyway
but highlights of them game was my squad of 10 boyz +nob getting creamed by his HQ terminator lord and 10 Khorne berserkers so i was left with only a nob who instant kill his HQ cause of the power fist the nob then ran off the table
and my HQ died died at the same time as he killed the skull champion i instant killed the skull champion landed 3 wounds which i failed all of :( but was fun will do it again

here are some of the pics i remember to take

later today ill upload pics of a Choas terminator I've been working on to pass the time ive got a few extra bits from my AoBR sets

Automatically Appended Next Post:
here are the pics of a terminator I'm making i was gonna give him a heavy weapon option out of a looted dread arm but i want to build the dread as well some day so he's getting 2 lightning claws

[/url]

I'm hoping to add some more detail work to the shoulders and a cape any ideas what i can add to the shoulder pads? i was thinking either Khorne icon or a skull

ask and you may receive don't and you won't

head

torso

its pinned in place but not glued so i can fill in some gaps with GS and have less hassle even when painting the arms are also pinned
I love my new pinning set makes life sooooo much easier. wish I'd knew of it to start with as they also give the model far more strength,I was originally using plastic rod and plastic meld to hold parts but those have since broken apart will use the brass rode on then to fix it

so more work on the terminator now that I've started id like to finish him

so apart from some gs on the arms and neck i also finished his first lightning claw i was holing to have 4 blades on the claw but only fitted 3

next time ill use slightly thinner plasticard and i will have spacers between to help keep it more even but it will came out looking good as far as i can tell but ive only really worked on orks so what do your think does it need re doing or is it good?

also been working soem designed on my dread

the dread arms are great but wont fit the look i want ill keep them for other parts and but i did find this little beauty sitting on my desk and it screamed LOOT ME

so i pulled out the dread arm and blue tacked it for scale

pretty good i think. Also you can easy fit a flama' or shoota' in there there is loads of room but since i cant remember where i bough the thing i will use it as a blueprint and make more arms out of plastic card

@insaneume: ty so much! at the beginning i was thinking it was an open helmet!

Made in mt
Grovelin' Grot

milky way > sol > earth > europe > malta

@FantasyBob open helmet? I'm not sure i understand the head is one piece alone then pit behind are khorne bunny ears chopped or a head and glued to the terminator back piece

now first o get it out the way an up date on the the term added some detail work to the shoulders and made the first lightning claw i little smoother a m8 said it looked a little too orky. I'm not sure about that but after looking at other lightning claws it was more like a ninja weapon
also after the trouble with the first claw im gonna try the second one out of green stuff instead of plastic card as the card was fiddly until the glue stuck so to that end I gave the hand a wire frame to work off

more importantly to me at least is the work i started on my dread last night
so it took me a few minutes to build up to cutting him to bits since he was so nice and new and i don't have money to waste but i cut him up anyway (worst case scenario ill give him crutches )

work done so far was i lengthened the toe and made it flex removed the hip and added a bigger one out of piping added a small piston to drive it
the hips became the groan or axle which ever you prefer to call it and i added wiring from there to the leg need to add a front armour panel to the axle and finish the Other leg

im also working on some designed for the arms and shoulders but since i want this to be a war-machine copy I'm not sure which shoulder lay out to go with i remember him with a missile pack one side and machine-gun on the other but the new film had him with just the gun and the missile popping out of the chest

while the missile pods popping out would be nice i think ill go with the way i remember him

@emperor bacon - ork are all for lootin

if it helps it started off as a big shoota boy from AoBR

more work on my dread i think ill have to stop work on him (or at least stop glueing things to him) until i can get some more magnets for his wargear options

im very proud of the base its the most work ive done on one base so far just needs a few rivets and paint and the base will be done

next up comes the fun part of adding the torso to the legs this should be some fun

the furby in the back ground was going to be come part of a stompa one day just because an interactive stompa going doo doo doo mid game would be fun
but sadly I lack the hearth to loot him ill see if I can find one on ebay or some were

Ok so more work done on the dread

I was having some issue with what ork should pilot the dread the pose i had already considered was going to be seated inside with his top half sticking out
my first ideas were
a nob (I've got a whole box to look in) and chop shop the body to fit
a Biker the pose would be mostly done
the ork trukk driver
ork head green stuffed body

done some experimenting with the options even looked at a deff kopta boy
the nob was too big no room for arms, biker or trukk boy i could not get with out ordering online (and im impatient )

finally i settled on a nobs head cause it screamed ironman /warmachien to me but since the nob torso left no room for arms a boy torso and 2 slugga arms
i might try and add the front chest piece from a nob cause he looks tiny or just bulk up the boy with green stuff the legs I'm gonna green stuff around the frame i glued on im gonna cheat and do the legs up to his knee caps only as he was sitting to high other wise

so pilot pics so far

i dunno if ill add the irongob or not will see later on

i cut down around the bottom of the main body of the dread since it had a new axle for the legs
i cut away the balls for sticking the legs too and gave it a new bottom. then i noticed how well the leg ball id cut away fitted into some of my plastic tubing so i glued it center bottom of the main body and had the perfect joint between axle and main body it even pivots so i can choose the pose before gluing
i also cut out a viewing area from where the sights normally are and got to test out my milling bit to smooth out the top hatch once id cut it out too i added a back to the inside of the body which will be where i attach the seat too

pics of the main body

the bits of piping at the back on the underside are to attach pistons to which will be attached to the back of the axle to offer extra support and offer articulation (it wont really articulate only look the part while i think i can do the articulation with piping and magnets i don't think the model will be solid enough then. i might have the axle and main body come apart for transport )

work so far

looking very menacing there might have to bulk up the legs and axle to support the weight

some ideas on the weapon systems
im going to have the weapons shoulder mounted i might mix the dreads weapons with my lootas weapons since i have 2 boxes of lootas and i don't want my lootsa weapons to look alike

for the rokkit launcher option i had an idea of building a shoulder mounted fatman launcher from fallout 3
it would end up looking like a smaller version of the grot rokkits launcher anyway but the idea of a rail along which to fire the rokkit sounds cool

Done a bit more work since my last post mainly ive been doing sketches for stompas, battle wagons, flying submarines and stuff but I've told myself off for that

I've got enough on my plate as is with out adding more on top of that I've been helping a mate with his csm army

so the update this time round is the CC arm for the dread it did start off as a concept piece using soem scrape card and piping but i liked it so much i kept going and added some other bitz to snazz it up

Now i guess most people would cut out some part for upper arm and a lower arm and use blue tack to see what they look like
Why cant i be like that? No not me, I make moving parts and assemble them to see what it looks like. Well Ok i do allot of sketching and dry runs first

so first up a few shot of it in place on the body jsut to show its scale

the arm itself

the above pics arm just of the arm the hand/klaw is missing from it as I'm still trying to decide what the hand should be
below is the arm with with hand and my current dilemma - what to use as the business end
while the CC arms supplied are great they don't go with the look i want
so I've boiled my choices down the following 3

a closer looker look at each hand on its own
chain fist

cleaver hands

more power claw look

so from the choices given what does every one else think i like all 3 and each one has its draw back im low on both kopta blades and chain sword bitz
and the power klaw is allot of filing and looks a bit messy

One nit pick I have is the Not-a-Grot on page one. His right leg is fleshy - Id make it mechanical. Makes it more beliveable I think.

@monkeytroll : I' ll look into the imp chain swords see if i can pick up a few bitz i did have a few ork ones but I've used allot of them on the defffightas and a chain axe or 2 if i don't find enough chain bits i might the rotors since im converting each kopta

Arm is looking great! The chainsaw attachment looks a bit weedy. I have a personal preference for Deffkopta blades though...

milky way > sol > earth > europe > malta

@moonshine - actually i might need some luck to actually get there in the first place airport has been closing due to weather finger crossed

@neil101 - thx blame it on me having read deff skwadron

@c0un7_z3r0 - thx

@Arakasi - the chainsaw would need to be bulked up if use i agree but so far the Deffkopta blades seam to be in the lead cause even my m8s said they prefer those having said that I'm not committing to any for now

so today's post Since i know the steps needed to build the arm I thought I'd document the build this time round

I'm not sure how well I'm going to explain this but the pictures should help

the first step is to choose the side of pipe you want for the pistons on the back of the arm then choose one bigger so it will slide into it
cut 2 lengths the size of the elbow join and cut 2 more about 3 mm long that will be used as the caps

box around these tubes with plastic card and then cut the lengths of plastic tube that will slide into them and glue the caps on to them

then slide the lengths of tube into the bigger tubes
i didn't glue the box closed so that it would show better in the pics also the piece of plastic car on one of the tubes is because the tubes are different sizes and i want it to press up against the sides

for the next part the elbow joint hinge

get two sizes of pip that fit into each other the out side piece should be the same width as the above box the inner piece slightly longer so that it will fit into 2 pieced of plastic card
mark the outer tube into 3 sections with the middle being the widest

with mine i made sure the middle section was wide enough for another section of tube to come down and be glued perpendicular to it
now slit the outer tube into its section and glue one of the end piece to the inner tube once set slide the rest on

first i glued the perpendicular pipe to the middle join so i will have leverage
glue the last end piece to the inner tube if you can don't get any glue on the middle section
I didn't manage this but its Ok holding the first section you glued in place use the perpendicular pipe to keep the middle piece moving until the glue sets
its best to use a quick dry glue rather than plastic meld for this part at least that my opinion

mark up on the plastic card box the width of the end pieces and glue 2 raised pieces these will be where you are going to glue the join to the box and will help limit and glue on the middle section

i forgot to take a pic of the next part but basically you cut 2 squares of card and drill a hole in them the hole should be top middle
the hole has to be big enough for the inner pipe to fit in but not too loose. glue these to the inner pipe and the end pieces of the outer tube
once set put glue on the 2 raise pieces from the above pic and slide the whole thing over and glue the 2 pieces of plastic card to the box
most likely some glue will get to the middle part so again flex it until the glue is dry

that's all i managed for to day as i had to keep stopping for house work dunno if ill get any work up tomorrow either as its going to be a packed day

On the klaw, maybe try all of them? The small blade could work as a "thumb" and the rest as two claws perhaps?
