Interesting take on the grots . I'd definitely advise some way to tell both units apart: different bases, a very obvious colour difference. So yeah, unless you have some other way of telling these apart, changing the colour might be a good idea .

Yeah, go with the differing colours for different squads, nice and easy that way The shields look even better with a lick of paint on, as long as any 'normal' grots don't get too much 'extra treatment' should be OK for shoota boys.

And, yes, wheels on squigs is good

arakasi: cheers

Hi today iv'e been undercoating a NEW unit of shoota grots (these will be added to the others to make a 20 man unit and soon a 30 man unit) i know i should have put pics up before undercoating but they looked rubbish. anyway sorry for how hard they are to make out but they're black and its really hard to get decent pics of black models

i finnaly got part 2 of the fluff done woo hoo and this is wher we can meet all the main characters eye to eye tell me what ya think guys
chapter 24
Ragsnap waited nervously in the dark, damp sewer tunnel and paced backwards and forwards whilst looking at the chained up squig who he called Tufgul who was looking back at him whilst looking puzzled. Ragsnap looked around the circular chamber with his one good eye and paused when he got to the only sewer tunnel that leads into the torch lit room. Ragsnap then turned and petted his loyal squig; oddly the grot had a natural affiliation with the aggressive race. Ragsnap showed his sharp teeth as he grinned at the beast when it looked back at him and acknowledged the grots scared and broken hand upon it. Suddenly Ragsnap and Tufgul heard a noise coming from the attached sewer; the pair jumped and turned around to see what it was. Neither of the pair could tell what it was and panicked before hearing a loud laugh come from the other end of the room, suddenly they realised who it was. “Snikgrot” cried Ragsnap
“yeah ya got me” replied the grot hiding at the other end of the room “why’d ya call me ere at this time a night then?” added snikgrot
“I’ll tell ya when da uvas get ere”
“Uvas?” said snikgrot in a surprised tone “wat do ya mean?”
“You’ll know soon enough” Ragsnap said whilst wondering how snikgrot didn’t understand what he was telling him.
Snikgrot was larger than normal grots but still not as big as Ragsnap, who was the largest grot of them all and was bigger than some ork boyz. But what Snikgrot lost in height he made up for in cunning and found it easy to escape the runtherd, Snikgrot was rarely seen in full but when he stood still a grot wearing a pair of goggles and carrying two large knifes could be seen, though all he wore was a loin cloth made of very basic material that he painted in a camouflage pattern to match the rest of his skin. Despite this what stood out most were the bionics that replaced his left arm, this made him as strong as the warboss and he never tired of showing it off in arm wrestling matches with the runtherd who usually tried to win by cheating and would never hold up to his side of the bet, but Snikgrot was just happy with the fact he was strongest.

Eventually the two grots heard another noise come from, the chamber but this time the cause was obvious and three more grots entered the room Gorecrack, Zagkrunch and Grotwurt who entered in an orderly fashion. Gorecrack looked as he always did and that was bloody from head to toe he was covered in blood but it was only natural for a grot to get bloody if he was practicing surgery all day long. Gorecrack, despite his appearance was a fairly skilled dock and, in fact every grot in the room had received surgery from him and ended up somewhat better of for it. Grotwurt on the other hand was clean, for a grot and had no bruises on him and, unlike Gorecrack who was carrying a syringe and wearing war gear similar to the ork mad doks. Grotwurt did however carry a large staff and was followed by his pet snakes, though Grotwurt was most different for his missing right eyes witch he lost when zapping lightning into some humans a few months ago. What made Grotwurt truly unique was his incredible power and the power of his followers who were nicknamed odd-grots but event then Grotwurt was different in the fact that his enemies had a bad habit of turning into squigs. On the left of the group was Zagkrunch who had a habit of hanging onto the back of trucks and warbikes during battles leaving his face pulled back after battles that he had escaped the runtherd
. Zagkrunch wore a helmet and visors as well as some basic armour that had, amazingly saved his life.
The group of three looked around and noticed Ragsnap and Snikgrot looking back at them. Zagkrunch was the first to open his mouth and ask why they were asked to come here and got the same answer as Snikgrot who began to talk to Gorecrack about improving his bionic arm and the two were quickly involved in conversation.

Half an hour passed and the five grits were beginning to suspect Strugdef, Nagres and Rakgull weren’t coming when a loud bang came from the sewer and an orange light appeared at in the sewer. The light was followed by two grot-like figures and three smaller silhouettes. Ragsnap instantly recognised them as Nagres and Rakgull, who as always was followed by his three snotling servants who would carry ammo and stolen items for him. After what seemed like hours the two grots and three snotlings were easy to see and Rakgull order his three servants to drop a crate in the middle of the room and stand by the wall and entertain themselves. Slowly Rakgull walked over to the chest and opened it to reveal bottles of fungus beer which he threw to the other grots in the sewer and opened one for himself. Rakgull was a large ostentatious grot who wore a long blue coat that hung behind him aswell as a nice looking hat and plenty of medals were displayed all across him. He also had a large banner and an incredibly well maintained gun that Zagkrunch had made for handfuls of teeth but Rakgull was happy with what he paid for and kept it very well maintained so it would stay looking brand new. Ragsnap was rich for a grot and could afford most things even some flashgitz couldn’t. Meanwhile Nagres was an extremely threatening grot and would sometimes scare even the runtherd. He wore a cap from a commissar and had a pair of long bionic legs that ended in talon like claws that could crush most thing when Nagres took to his favourite sport where he would attach rokitz stolen from stromboyz to his back and jump out of a fighta bomaba in maid air as he plunged towards the enemy as fast as he could before activating the rokitz and landing safely on top of whatever it was he wanted to crush. Nagres was very bad tempered though and would start a fight with most of the other grots just to prove his point. The two new arrivals looked around the room and got involved in conversation. Rakgull was panting slightly but said to Ragsnap “don’t ... worry me saw... Strugdef not to far back he should be here... soon”
And Rakgull was correct and moments later the only creature Ragsnap had truly looked up to walked into the room and took a bottle of fungus beer from the half full chest, though Ragsnap would never admit it he looked up to Strugdef, who had thought Ragsnap everything he knew when Ragsnap first spawned and found the ork settlement. Strugdef wasn’t much to look at and was missing one of his ears, his clothes weren’t any better and he only had a loin cloth and a rag that barely qualified as a t-shirt. But he was wise for a grot and Ragsnap admired him, but Ragsnap never knew he would one day actually miss him.
“OK” declared Ragsnap “I know you wana know why you’re hearing and now I’m gonna tell ya”...

just a quick update here, i've been thinking of ideas for warbuggies and the best idea is probably landspeeders on wheels with missile launcher above the crew compartment. what do you guys think ?

Great work! I love the grot with the powerfist on the wrong hand!

TBH I hate the converted landspeeders with wheels simply because they look a bit thrown together. Although, they may look good as ork/grot vehicles for that exact reason. keep up the good work

well it's been a just over a year since i started the hobby and i dug out onne of my first ork boyz so i decided to paint a runtherd i got with the grots and i'm quite proud of him anyway as you may have guessed already i've compared the two.
I like the way the runtherd looks enogh to make my mind up and i'm starting my orks again from scratch so i'll make a blog of em when a few units are done.
Here are the two orks it's clear to sea the new and old but what do you think ?

Wow i just scrolled through the blog and realised how pic heavy it is the problem is i've had very little feedback.

Btw commander khaine: thanks for the feedback i'll look at other vehicles that i can covert, since i want them to keep a looted look. i'm thinking about de jetbikes on wheels

thanks commisarkhaine and i know some people would dissagree that they don't look big or tough enough for their stat line but i took the models to my local gw and most people were happy to let them have the stats imo grots are small enough to hide easily and a grot running forward is probably harder to aim at than an ork boy flappin his arms about but oh well. I'm glad you liked the models and i'll take your advice when i build other units i was toying round wuth the idea of using necron legs if i take the grot legs of what do you think?

Nice to see the comparison shot moonshine, definite iprovement there. Are you using the flash on those last pics, it looks like it's washing some tones out of the flesh.

Like the kommando models, does the camo do a good job of making them distinguishable fom the others on the table?

I don't think most people would have an issue with a grot rebellion being made of, well, grots But I think that a bunch of grots and snots that have turned on their masters, escaped and are fighting their own fight is a project that offers so much more in the opportunities it can provide, modelling wise. I'd say that's where CK is coming from too, but it's never wise to try and second-guess a Commissar

cheers i'm glad you like them the flash was on so i took some better ones with it off so everyone can get a better look. Now i look at it it is all grots is'nt it but when i start the buggies and the battlewagon i'm sure it will look right which reminds me i need to finish the big mek soon. i'm still thinking about dark eldar jetbikes on wheels with other grotty stuff on it. anyway here are the pics of the runtherd and a grot i painted yestarday (he's not finished but his skin is) though i do think the camera has taken of some of the detail on him

Well as you guessed teres not much going on during december because ,you know who's coming (no not voldermort) but it's hard to christmas shop and work on the grots so i'm finishing up a few things and waiting until 2011 to continue. On another note me and a few guys have started a gorkamorka night once every two weeks using the new models with old rules and i was wondering if anyone would enjoy some batrep's next time, i hav'nt done any yet unfortunatly because it's hard to get used to the rules and take pics at the same time.
A good idea for anyone who wants a fun narrative game out there is to get the gorkamorka rules (undust you're copy, buy it off ebay or download it online) and paint up some awesome boy units and grots and trukks and start a mini campaign. It's great fun for anyone who likes ork models but dos'nt want to commit to an army of em, i'm the only ork player in the campaign and it's still cool to see what fun everybody else has with the boyz
if you want da uvver book i,ve put a download up for ya
