I think that this rematch would serve up the best chances for some lovely intarweb drama..errrrr......

That would depend on a couple of things.
1. It depends on if he's going.
2. It depends on if he'll be in attendance for the Thursday night whiskey challenge
3. Most importantly, it would depend on him disagreeing with my hypothesis strongly enough to fire back. If he read the OP and agreed, he wouldn't be the right opponent for the job. I say Space Wolves suck - I need someone who is emotionally attached to the awesomeness of their Space Wolves to champion their cause.

You recall that this whole thing between you and Stelek happened in the first place because he said that Orks 'suck'.
You could've just said 'I say Space Wolves aren't as good as everyone thinks they are' or whatever. We know they don't out-right suck and that's where the complications begin...
I do 2nd What Deadshane said though.

Hmm, I have to say that I'm a little skeptical of this "rock-paper-scissors" theory. Where does every other army fall on this table? Dark Eldar, Space Wolves, and Mech IG aren't the only armies that can compete, after all. Also, are you saying that mech IG is the only army that Dark Eldar has trouble with? That seems like a generally inaccurate assertion, as I think there are other armies that "hard counter" Dark Eldar far better than mech IG does. I have trouble seeing how most modern DE armies would win vs. a smart Black Templar dual-LR player with Blessed Hull in effect, for instance.

I don't consider other armies - because with few exceptions (like predator/razorback spam BA), I just don't see anything else standing toe to toe with me. I expect to see a resurgence of BT, and I expect my counter to be haywire grenade toting wyches. Given the FAQ for DE, I am going to have to shake up my fast attack a bit - my beasts are / were nice, and are still good, but not as awesome as they should have been; I'm pondering either heat lances or haywire blaster toting scourges - but until I sort out which, I'm going to have to settle for haywire grenade toting wyches....and using my superior mobility to block off the land raiders. If I drop a raider or a venom on all four sides of the land raider, 1" away, chances are that its neither going anywhere nor disgorging its passengers while I deal with everything else needing dealt with.
Don't get me wrong - there are other armies that can put up a fight (Mechdar, previously mentioned BA), but they don't put a sinking feeling in my heart like a Mech IG list does.
In terms of Necrons --> Orks --> Dark Eldar, that isn't the route; its gone Tau --> Orks --> Dark Eldar --> Necrons. The Necrons are next, they're just not ready to be fielded yet in terms of assembly.

No no no - that's an integral part of this challenge. Drinking of the Mjold - Fenrisian Grog. Actually, that disqualifies a rematch against Stelek because he doesn't drink. Whiskey / bourbon / etc. are a critical piece of this - A space wolf wouldn't let a skinny DE drink them under the table in something called a "WHISKEY CHALLENGE" would they?

But i reckon it's never going to end up well again. Someone (often the losing side) will always come up with certain reasoning to say that the match wasn't fair enough.

Dash,
Thank you for your keen outlook on the army I have held closely for 20+ years. DE have there uses but against my Black Wolves they are but trash. Last Nova I battled and had my low points and high points. During that day I had the chance to play Stelek in the 4th round next to you and your opponent. His wolves bested mine that day and I had failed in my goal to face off aganst you the second day.
I see now that I have a chance to get in the game I so missed last year. My wolves have gone through many trials to get where they are and I know I can face off against the best of the best. I have not won any GT's so I shall not claim that but I have attended many and made it into the upper rankings many times. Many victories I have had in the local scene and many victories I have had in the GT scene. I play hard but not spam!
If it shall be I accept the challenge you have so arrogantly thrown down. And also take the challenge of the drink. For those who stand with the Black Wolves must be able to hold their drink. And may Leman Russ grant his favor! For he, we fight!

So, your saying that Wolves suck because they can't be competitive without being cookie cutter? Wouldn't that apply to most armies? I mean, sure they all have 3 squads of missles launcher long fangs. Ever seen orks without Nobs and/or Lootas? I haven't. Ever seen good DE without Raiders/Venoms? Exactly. If your going to say SW are bad because they rely on Long Fangs too much, then every army must also rely too much on one thing. Don't get me wrong, I think people should expand their minds and be creative, but some people prefer not to take many risks. I should say, that making a non cookie cutter Wolf list without vehicles is demanding, but can be done. The guy who won NOVA last year didn't have the most cookie cutter list IIRC. He had rhinos, yes. But no razorbacks. He also had Njal, which isn't typical. Was his list uncreative too? I don't know...

I agree with what you said but also one of the things that really worry me is running into another DE mirror match. Where it becomes a question of how soon can you demech the other guy and key charges.

No, I'm saying that there's not a Space Wolf army in existence that I couldn't beat blindfolded with one army tied behind my back....because they're NOT ALL THAT.
Grimwulfe, you're on. Assemble the nastiest, ugliest, most rotten Spacepuppy list you can so that I can flay their skin and feast on their souls. I would encourage you to work on your liquor tolerance so that you can be standing at the end of our game; and depending on your level of confidence with your tournament list, I'd encourage you to talk to the sometimes hippie Hulksmash or the ever excellent Reecius for advice on how to bring pain in your tournament list.

I thought you should know that I've been thinking very hard about our upcoming fight to the death. I even started training tonight with a fifth of tequila. I will admit to being quite drunk at the moment; I started the fifth about an hour ago, and there's about 1/4 of a bottle left - I kept putting salt on my hand, taking a shot, and then taking a sip of lime juice. After every pot. And I had like 3 days of dishes to do.
So here's what's been on my mind. Do we do a shot after after phase? IE, 3 shots per player turn, 6 shots per game turn? That's definitely equal. Or.....do we do a shot after every casualty? Every model lost is a shot taken. My only concern here is that I'd be sober at the end of the night, and you'd be in the hospital with alcohol poisoning.
Then again, I'm not one to presume about a Space Wolves' ability to drink. You tell me what you prefer!

Xeno's and their delusions!
My suggestion would be, due to the very nature of this challenge and the fact that the dark eldar are set for disappointment that we use your first suggestion and take a shot a phase. I for one shall be boasting challenges during the match, which will increase our consumption and I am sure you shall as well. This way we may avoid any unnecessary trips to the medic.
May I also suggest a special drink that I shall provide if and when our heroes die, we shall drink from my horn in honor of fallen foes and remembered heroes!
Plenty shall be consumed and in time you shall know the true light of the Emperor’s finest. You shall learn to respect my brothers for our will shall be imposed and your demise is imminent.
For Russ we fight! For the Emperor we live!
