I don't smoke. I've had a few celebratory cigars in my day (graduations, baby and the like) and I enjoy the flavor, but I don't think I could ever be a regular smoker. It's simply too damn expensive.

If you smoke a pack a day you could quit and buy a box of Space Marines every week.

Snurl smokes little cigars. About seven in a day.
They help Snurl to stay calm and focused so he doesn't rip somebody's face off who desparately needs it.
Snurl has tried to quit several times, but always starts again after a few months.

I despise it. I despise especially people who smoke ON HOSPITAL PROPERTY and especially infront of the entrance.. I do wish they'd die in a fire as it's really annoying and unhealthy.

What I hate is the look people give you if you ask them to smoke outside, like I'm the bad guy.

I can't imagine smoking INSIDE, but I don't smoke cigarettes. I smoke a pipe like any civilized gentleman. It's cheap, smells good, and doesn't leave me feeling sick afterward like cigarettes do. I make no allusions toward how much more/less heathy it is than smoking cigarettes, but I prefer to measure my life in how much I enjoy it, not how long I live.

IKR... Especially when it's cold outside or it's raining. They give you a look like 'How can you do this to me?' or 'You can't be serious...'.

Please bear in mind not all smokers are that way. I consider myself a polite smoker. I only smoke outside, my butts find their way to a trash can and I positively do not smoke around kids or pregnant ladies.

I started smoking back in December due to severe depression anxiety and stress. On my second attempt at giving up, been a few months now, and have done it cold turkey. However lately I'm getting quite stressed with not finding a job in past 9 months. Even though I know its not good for me, I'm getting more and more cravings and my will getting weaker. Several times now I have found myself at the shop counter almost asking for a pack of smokes.

It also doesn't help that my flatmate smokes, the same brand I did. Even though he smokes outside seeing the lighters, packs or the smell sets off cravings big time.

To be fair to that crazy old lady, smokers just don't realise how much they smell, even in the open air. You would be surprised at the amount of conditioning your brain undergoes to convince yourself that smoking is pleasurable, tastes good, smells alright etc etc. The stuff that I was taking to stop smoking:

works as a nicotinic receptor partial agonist apparently. What this means in reality is, once you start taking the pills, it strips away all of the barriers that your brain has created in order to keep you smoking. So you start to *really* taste what a cigarette is like and what it smells like instead of what your brain has been fooling you into thinking. Remember the first cigarette you had? Pretty awful, huh? One of the reasons that people continue to smoke is because the brain conditions itself to ignore that taste in order to continue getting the nicotine hit - its essentially 'fooling' you into liking the taste and smell of cigarettes so you keep smoking; nicotine is that addictive.

I may sound a touch evangelical here; I am, I make no bones about that. I struggled for years to quit smoking and nothing worked. Then I took a short course of these pills and all done.

All of which is a roundabout way of saying, that's why even on an open street, cigarette smoke can still be offensive to some.

I have no doubt it smelt bad, but I was surprised that she came up to me and basically told me to put the damn thing out.

But anyways, I digress. Today was my last morning smoke with my cup of coffee. I'm making a conscious effort to NOT bring any with me when I go to work so I will be clean for at least 11 hours (or 19 if you include sleeping).

I smoke two cigars or so a week. More in the summer, a lot less in the dead of Ohio winters.

Even my doctor doesn't seem to care.

Also, let's not pretend that casual contact with second smoke is unhealthy. Sure, if you're a severe asthmatic, it can trigger an attack. But for the other 99% of humanity, second hand smoke is only unhealthy in long term, constant contact.

It's still impolite to smoke around non-smokers, which is why I do my smoking outside, on my property, but I'm also not addicted...

Heres the thing though.

If you are overweight, fine, the only person it affects is you, you can go on living your life and the only problem you may have is going down the aisle in an aeroplane (I know that there are other problems)

If you smoke, you are adversely affecting the health of those around you, as they have no choice but to inhale the crap that you exhale.

Used to smoke cigars and cigarettes every few days just socially, over a beer at the pub say, or out clubbing. Never really got into smoking bigtime.

Then found Shisha smoking with herbal Hukka. Much better for you, and better on the bank. 15 minute smoke in the morning = all day worth and the charcoal and flavorings cost about a tenner each, with water free and the shisha about 130 bucks for a decent two person one.

There is a reason why Top gear used them in the middle east.

So you people who smoke or have stopped smoking. How many a day was your habit? Did you feel an addiction?
Me, I used to smoke about a pack a day but for the last 6-7 years I smoke 2-3 a day, many days going by without smoking at all.
I never smoke indoors and always wash my hands and rinse my mouth after smoking. Most people that have not seen me smoking are surprised to find I do.
I find if I go over 3 cigs a day for over a week I stop for a month or so to kill off what I see as a growing addiction.
Even though I see myself as a moderate, even casual smoker every non-smoking yahoo thinks that I'm a soon to be cancer-ridden smokestack.
As been said before in this thread. Put your fat laden sammich or glass of booze down before insulting my particular habit.

When I smoked it was 4/5 a day most days. Sometimes none sometimes 1 or 2. It all depended on how I was feeling on the day. One day when I was really stressed and low I smoked 20 in 4 hours.

Like to add that the moronic people slowly dying in hospital due to smoking are wasting tax payers funding keeping them alive.

About smokers smelling bad that's not entirely true, I know this one attractive girl who smokes but she rarely smells of it then again my theory is her long hair traps the scent of the shampoo she uses, causing her to

smell like a rose.

When I was seven years old my dad caught me smoking and made me eat an entire packet of cigarette butts as a punishment.

It worked a treat though and I've never smoked since!

However I am regularly thrown out of pubs and bars for wandering around the tables and eating the contents of the ashtrays.
