I agree, a little white in the corners where two lines meet will really make it pop

Ok, almost there. Shaded the metal bits with agrax and nuln oil, waiting for it to dry overnight and then it's a stormhost silver drybrush.

Then it's just a few skulls and it'll be finished!

Well I don't know how close you are to Ohio, but if you ever want to get a game in, just let me know!

Finished the Noctilith Crown. Just needs another application of dull coat.

All because of your suggestion!

Sorcerer has been put on hold, because I found out I get to host a big game in 3 weeks, so I gotta build another board!

I'm hoping to get this beast done in time for the game as well.

This thing is massive!

Yeah my armies are in a good spot, between all my chaos stuff and some orks I have about 6K ready to go, all painted. Just need more space to deploy it on!

Got the board constructed, just needs some paint/texture.

Made it into 3 2'X4' sections so I can go modular and build scenery into future sections.

The board in all it's plywood glory!

Wife took this action shot while begging me not to poke my eye out...

Jokes on her though, I stabbed my finger on one of the little spikes, drew blood even. Good to know it's been properly dedicated to the chaos gods!

Got the purple finished, so the first stage is complete.

Gold detailing is up next, that's the hard part. Making good progress though, and gluing sand to my board will give me a break from this if I need it.

Oh, sweet. It will be painted to match the Crucibles, then? Green spires incoming?

Excited to see the progress! When painting lots of scenery, how many coats do you do for the base? Do you thin the paint at all to keep it even?

My painting log is full of snakes

Oh yeah, big green spires inbound!

Don Qui Hotep wrote:Excited to see the progress! When painting lots of scenery, how many coats do you do for the base? Do you thin the paint at all to keep it even?

Well for my scenery, I try to drybrush as much as possible, so it's right out of the pot. The purple is just kinda mashed on there until it looks even.

The gold is also right out of the pot as I'd have to go back and do a second coat, and that would give me a mental breakdown.

So yeah. Right out of the pot, drybrush as much as you can, and switch brushes a lot! (Somewhere Duncan's cries of anguish are giving birth to another chaos god...)

Made some good progress on the gold, got a lot further today than I thought I would.

Still have the whole other side but it's about 40% done with the gold.

Also got a few boards sanded and spray painted.

One more board to spray, and then it's drybrushing and static grass time.

That fortress is coming along nicely and I feel you on the spiky stuff. Currently painting WarCry terrain and those wooden elements are spikey to, although not as much as this stuff.

Excited to see the finished table, that terrain will invite epic battles!

This is looking great. I've got a full 'ring' of this Dreadfort stuff awaiting construction, and painting it looks like something that would drive me insane (all that gold!).

My question to you is: Why purple?

Yeah the spikes are a real hazard! Only other minis that poked me so much were the old plastic monopose goblins from the WHFB 4th edition.

Oh man, you have the whole thing? I don't know if you could pay me enough for that madness!

I chose purple for a few reasons. It's one of my favorite colors, and I don't see it on the table too much.

I wanted a unique color scheme, and all I could find on Google were red or black dread forts. There was a neat one in a WD where it was all just bone colored, but I didn't fancy it for my table.

When I managed a GW store for a hot minute, they had us paint the intro tables and Sigmarite Mausoleum using this painting guide: https://youtu.be/kyv-Mc7nIz0

I really liked the look of it, and thought of using it for a while but thought it might be too Christmassy with the cauldrons of blood on the crucibles.

So I looked through the paint rack to find something I liked in a similar chroma, and Daemonette Hide was the winner!

I figured the purple slaanesh color would off set the "khornate" blood and I threw the green spires on there to give a call out to nurgle.

I was going for as chaos god neutral as I could get but still look spooky and/or daemonic.

So that is why I chose purple!

Been a few days since I could get any work done, but I was able to finish the other side of the short tower and wall.

Roughly 60% finished?

Also took advantage of the warm-ish weather and got the boards fully painted.

The green spots are guides for the glue and to help in case I miss any spots with the static grass.

Weather permitting I'll have the table finished by Sunday!

Thanks,

How is that fortress not sent you insane yet? It looks really cool, but that’s one hell of a lot of gold trim! They’re all going to look EPIC on your new board

Hey thanks, same! Less than two weeks before the game, but I'll probably take some army shots ahead of time.

It's been a close call, I am inching closer though. I only have one wall panel left, I am hoping to have the gold done tomorrow and it's pretty quick after that.

The second table is complete!

Got it clear coated this morning, so that static grass ain't going anywhere!

I think the terrain blends in well.

Ok, back to that fething dreadhold....

Gorgeous paintjobs and conversions!

I'll have to try out your orange recipe on a Possessed Chaos Marine. I look forward to following this blog.

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words!

I don't have that big of an update, but I finally managed to finish painting on the gold trim!

I have to go back and shade it all now, but that goes pretty quick. After that stage, I should fly through it!

How many pots of wash do you think you'll go through getting that thing?

Hah, not stabbing yourself with minis is always preferable! I'm not sure, but I have a 3/4 full nuln oil and I bought another just in case.

Between the crucible and this thing, 3 pots of gold!
