@crazypsyko666: Thanks. I was going for the more colourful look for contrast and so it looks fancy.

@grrrfranky: Thank you!

Look, it's a WIP of Bör Dragonbane:

That's Bör Dragonbane, a recent addition to Avatar of War's range of Dwarven Heroes. It's the same company who did the plastic Slayers I painted over the course of the past 8 days or so.

Loving that Bor model Sigur! very nice w.i.p I am quite taken by the cool bleached bone colour you get on things like the skull etc... it makes the other colours you lay down seem very warm by comparison, this is reflected in a lot of your work not just the dwarves you are doing now, always a pleasure seeing what you paint, i've learnt a few things just from following your plog and I seriously look forward to being inspired by more! I picked up some tips when I did my Warboss from your Orks and I was tutored by Pyriel on some other parts and he turned out imo really good! better photo's would do him more justice but they'll follow soon, now i need you to paint an Imperial fist so i can pilfer some technique :-).....

Those dwarves are great. I think AoW make some of the best models out there. I'm really impressed with your take on them.

@nerdfest09: Thanks, that's a very nice compliment. Do you have pictures of your Warboss online somewhere? By the way, here's an Imperial Fists Space Marine I did earlier this year:

...if that's of any help to you.

@The_Stormrider: Thanks and yes, they make some very neat models.

Alright, I'll admit that the last pictures of Bör looked rather bad. Here's another one:

...and here's something completely different again:

Hope you like everything, comments and critizism are welcome as always!

Hi Sigur, thanks heaps for the pic! that is some lovely yellow right there! i'm struggling as with yellow you don't blend the highlights up across the armour as much as with other colours and i'm second guessing myself with it, i'll pop a link up for you to my blog, it's got some w.i.p and the warboss for you to look at when you get a chance? forgive the pics, they're o.k but not really great at showing the actual skin tones i managed to produce, let me know what you think? :-) and thanks again for being such a prolific painter!

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/510/356350.page you may also like to see the page before this one as there's some other w.i.p shots and close ups of the yellow armour :-)

cheers

@Nerdfest09: Cheers mate, I'll have a look and leave a comment.

In the meantime, lookie here - it's the Nomads' only heavy infantry, the Mobile Brigada:

Interesting thing about this one. I started out painting this guy in a darker blue, almost black, because these guys are meant to be menacing (they aren't just security forces and mercenaries but also are the guys who get sent out to the people who hire Nomads mercenaries but won't stick to the terms of the contract), used quite a different approach to their blue suit. About halfway through, I noticed that the suit's colour looks nothing like the other suits' colous at all but decided to go on just for the fun of it and see how it works out. So call it a "study" if you will. Of course it's not as sharp and neat as it should be but it's basically just a fun thing for experimentation for in between.

All of the Nomads look good. The mobile brigada will fit among the others, if the colors are as looks in the pictures. The blueish armor is still visibly of the same origin as the hellcat's armor and the dark brown areas tie them together. Of course the great and fitting bases help in this.

Bör seems so busy, he is almost as full of small trinkets as the recent marine heroes from GW. I guess he will look ok among the other slayers, but he is a bit hard to make out in the pictures on his own.

That Dragonbane figure looks great- the skull is my favorite part- texture and color/shading.

Those two figures... yea, that's a Bubblegum Crisis scheme! It looks great though, and I haven't seen the navy blue/pink combo for ages, but it fits very well with those two.

The latest figure is also very nice- is he finished, or will he also have some pink/red variation color on him as well?

@Metsuri: Thanks for the reassurance on the Mobile Brigada colours. Bör indeed looks pretty busy. It's mostly because of this incredible amount of stuff on his backbanner pole. In the defence of the model - the hair, the whole banner pole and the huge skull on the pole are optional if you want a less busy look on him.

@Vitruvian VII: Thanks muchly. Problem with these kinds of effects is that they look good from two or three angles but from other sides, it tends to look a bit weird.

@GiraffeX: Thanks, I'm glad so many people like that little experiment.

@HF Izanagi: Cheers. That's the thing - at the moment I'm a bit torn between the colour scheme on the Hellcats (the winged guys) and the big guy's reflecty scheme. But I'll definately stick to blue and pink. Looks snazzy.

So here's a group shot of my Infinity warband so far:

At least I got some kind of paint on each of them. :p

...here you can see how I changed the colour scheme over the past weeks, from right to left:

As you can see I added some purple/pink now. Maybe I'll make it more pink, what do you think? Do you think that the schemes go well together? Maybe if I add some more reflection-like highlights to the existing blue/pink models they'll fit better with the Mobile Brigada on who the plain blue/pink would fit less well because the model design is rather menacing with the insect-like head and the heavy armour and all that.

Thanks for the input on the Alguacil (the unarmoured line troops dudes) by the way. I'll go with black/grey clothes and blue vest with light grey/white applications.

By the way, I wrote up that review article on the AoW plastic Dwarves and posted it here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/398714.page#3350717

So have a look and let me know how you liked it or how it could be improved.

Hmm, id be tempted to do the pink flat (ie not NMMesque). I think it blends in too much atm.

Wait a second... did I just read that right? That's your Infinity Warband, and not a commission? Woe be to the person(s) who play you and don't paint at such a standard... lol... I'd be Hulk-green after comparing mine to yours...

And I dig the pink on the other guy too... it does blend as Vit says, but it matches the overall scheme. You must have started from the flat pink though- does it look better as the reflective-type? Or did it look better as the flat-type when you were putting on the base coat?

I guess the hellcat could use a bit more reflective pink, but the schemes go together well as is. The slight differences in the colors are nice way to separate different troop types with equipment made from different materials. The colors are similar that they are clearly from the same group.

@Vitruvian XVII: Thanks for the input. I figured it would look a bit odd if the blue was all shiny and the pink rather flat. On the other Mobile Brigada, I did use a bit bolder colours which I think helps the blending problem a bit.

@HF Izanagi: You totally heard right there. Those are mine, mine, mine. On the reflect-y colours, I hardly use any basecoat at all apart from black really so I wouldn't know what a fully pink version would look like. But I think it looks pretty nifty as it is.

@Metsuri: Yeah, true. I reworked the Hellcats a bit now to make them look a bit shinier and by now I think they go pretty well together.

Thanks for talking me into believing that the colour schemes go together pretty good. I'll go for it now.

C&C welcome again!

@Gitsplitta: Thanks. It's a neat mini.

@HF Izanagi: Hey, I've been doing TONS of Warmaster really now that I think of it. Some of my first commissions and there always was a steady stream of WM to do really. I think it's bigger than Epic around here really. The casualties are all models as they come in the box. GW released a pack of three very pretty SM casualties quite recently actually (maybe one, two years ago) and the one guy is the first of them. There's one dead Blood Angel and a Space Wolf who's in a bad shape to come. The Ork is from the great Empire archers set, hence the pose as if he was grabbing for an arrow that's stuck in his belly. Without the arrow, he looks a bit like he's telling something like "Breath steady old man. Prove you're not completely useless." to himself. :p

And that is an absurd amount of detail you have put onto those warmaster minis!

Did you... just quote Sin City? +1 for you!

Also, question- what did you use for the basing of the casualty figures? Perhaps it's the different yellow-bone sandstone color that's throwing me off, but I'm really digging the texture.

@Pacific: Many thanks. Got some praise for the infinity models today when I played at the club too. About the Warmaster figures - I really enjoy painting those time after time. I've been painting Warmaster minis since 2006 actually, some of my most consistent series of commissions so far, and I always enjoy them. GW really did a great job at making those and I think that these reflect much better what I like about WHFB - classic fantasy but rather down to earth and not all too fancy (simply because you can't throw too much detail on these 10mm minis). The 28mm versions these days often just have too much detail and unnecessary "bling".

@HF Izanagi: Yus I did. The pose reminded me of it. Random thought: In retrospect, Sin City loses more and more appeal. First this terrible The Spirit film that made Sin City look bad just for being in the same visual style and then I recently saw this extended and recut version of Sin City which basically makes the three stories completely seperate entities which seem to run from beginning to end each which also costs the film appeal. Bruce Willis is awesome, Clive Owen likewise and Mickey Rourke's character is written in an amusing way but altogeter....not sure. Maybe I'm being too hard on the film. It's still a fun romp. Speaking of which, I find the face of the asian girl highly irritating. Anyway, about the bases: It's a mix of various strengths(?) of sand. Some modelling sand I got some years ago, finer sand and a bit of larger particles from decoration sand I recently bought.

Salamanders Librarian:

WIP Vulkan:

I really gotta get these finished. Lots of stuff coming up.

That aside, I had my first game of Infinity today. Very interesting experience, very new to me but it was fun. Got completely butchered by Yu Jing. 200pts, I brought basically the models I got (3 Alguacil, 2 Mobile Brigadas, 2 Hellcats, 1 Tomcat).

Things I learned:
- I don't think I like smoke grenades.
- I got the final confirmation that I want that Daktari
- I need a Hacker. Not that I really needed one in this game but I'd just like to have one.
- I need to look into what Nomads are good at and maybe bring some more techy stuff.

OH-I Wanna get out of here

You've taken your painting to the next level with these from the wolves. The weathering is great, and the details are outstanding.

Do you mean the rhinos will be razorbacks?
