Thanks so much guys, I really appreciate it

For those that are interested the guide I used is here:

Roman is one of my favourite artists.

Sorry for the slow drip feed of updates. At 1 hour of painting time a day it's hard to make much progress

Thanks evildrcheese!

Well, today's incremental advance: the hat is done!

I toyed with going for a colourful red or blue, but settled for tan instead . I wanted to try blending (without an airbrush) so I based the tone on my old field work akubra. I think the brown is a nice neutral tone throughout; hopefully it looks different enough from the belts.

You know what that hat needs... but I have no idea of how you'd do it...? Red fringe around the brim! It would be that perfect bit of contrasting color to set off the jeans and greenish tinges in the skin.

So, yeah... make it happen San.

well, its been the longest time but i couldn't stay away

to kick things off again, and to start yet another project, i started on a legion praetor.

trying a new recipe to bring in some zenithal highlighting to the Fists. in the past ive really struggled shading yellow this way. fingers crossed this works better!

anyways, first pics below to encourage me to keep going. basic airbrushing done

Well if it isn't the man himself! the true leader of the yellow, the man who's fists inspired and scared me away in equal measure and now you're back to add another layer to Dakka and keep this wonderful blog alive with such brushed beauty, I'm actually really happy to see you back mate, I was looking at a pot of Devlan Mud and wondering where you had been :-)

Thanks very much Gits!

Well just an incremental update today. Blocked in some of the trim. Trying something a bit new for me: coloured the ledbelcher with black for trim. I really liked the depth the zenithal gave and I'm hoping that starting with a darker trim will give me something to shade up from. Think I will have to add some colour to it through glazes, as it does look a bit like a lead pencil colour!

Included the previous shots for comparison.

Thanks so much for the encouragement Gits!

well, yet more WIP on the praetor.

looking back over my old models, i wasnt happy with how plain the armor looks. at the time, i loved them but now they look so blocky. so, im trying with this guy to push my yellow skills a bit. i know that battle damage etc adds interest, but im trying to move past plain slabs of yellow armour. time will see how effective it will be... in the pic below i can at least say there isnt a lot of glare on the armour, the highlights are as you see them (the metals are a different matter).

so, since last update ive painted aquilla, but also deepened shadows and layered in some highlights. with the highlights ive tried to make them a bit more dynamic than the edge highlighting i normally do. all comments gratefully received, as well as tips on how to do that powersword. no idea what the fashion is for those these days! if all else fails, im gonna totally steal nerdfest's technique...

next up will be time to decide if i want to do battle damage, then...oil wash...

Nice San. The blend across the yellow really works for me. Much more dynamic. Excellent work!

Well, I decided to add some battle damage. Tried moving beyond just chips.

Tomorrow, oil wash and then sword. He's slowly getting there
