Fellow Dakkanaughts, not long ago (New Years) I bought a ouija board as a present and I've always had this curiosity to try it.
Now, I'm aware of the controversy surrounding it and I can see why there is s much stigma. When my friends heard about it, they all said "It's terrible idea / Burn it / You'll summon a demon / Aren't you afraid of spirits murdering you / You're a Christian, so you shouldn't be doing occult stuff" and all that. But frankly, I don't see what the imminent problem is. If you follow the rules, are kind to the entity, don't ask stupid questions and say "goodbye", then what is the problem then. I think a lot of bad PR on the ouija board has been misplaced.
What are your thoughts on this, and have you yourself had any notable experiences in the past with a seance. Tips are also welcome.

My partner wants to try one if we both reach 80 years old. I aint taking risks no matter how stupid it sounds. Plus its cooler not knowing about it. Because im sure when we try it the scary will vanish and will be an overpriced board. Mystery is cooler. Especially when the soul I may or may not have is at stake... Let us know if you get impregnated with a demon spawn who will vomit blood everywhere.

I used one for the hell of it. I put a magnet under a table and put Oujia tablet thing with small magnets so it would be randomly drag to random letters.
I have too much fun messing with people.

They're fake. Any experience you have is group psychology. You realize that the ORIGIN of Ouija boards is that of a novelty, right?

But any genuine experiences?
That wasn't fake, and that you couldn't genuinely explain?

I assume by "genuine experiences" you mean you want someone to validate your belief in a toy?

That's the experience for you. That's what you are experiencing. It is an interesting phenomenon, but it is not ghosts.

If they actually worked I certainly wouldn't be posting on DakkaDakka, I'd be rather occupied trying to summon our true father.

Here's a test you can do to see how the whole phenomenon works.
Get of group of people using the Ouija board, but have them do it blindfolded. Once they are blindfolded, rotate the board 90 degrees and have them act as normal. See if you get coherent messages from ghosts when the players cannot see nor guess at the locations of the letters.

I got your point guys. So I assume that you all don't believe in such nonsense and seem to ridicule it quite well. Makes me wonder why I paid £13 for one if it's complete nonsense.

It's a fascinating bit of psychology going on, and it is well worth the price of admission for that. But it is not supernatural. The unconscious group psychology is way WAY cooler anyway.

Under NVG's the shimmering movement you think your seeing but cannot confirm its actual movement but you don't want to be "That Guy" who goes on the net and ask someone else can see it does get nerve wracking. Then you have some guys who smoke behind their ACH's that gives a glow with a hole in it messing with you...ggaahhhhhhh....NEVER AGAIN

You can think That XD
I still have the Oujia board.
High School allowed me to do that. Actually its funny I put into the board not the table. Checking it now i put it under the K I L Y O U letters. It worked on drunk people. But it didn't work on the sober people. They noticed it was heavier and that it got stuck.

I find knowing that Parker Brothers (Hasbro) own Ouija as a product. Sort of takes the menace out of it knowing it's a toy made by the same people that make Cluedo and Monopoly.

Umm Monopoly has caused more break ups and family problems than World of Warcraft.

Or it means that Hasbro has a secret agenda that involves indoctrinating youth into a daemon cult by the use of devil summoning disguised as kids board games and toys.
