I think plastic floors could have been done for the cost GW did the cardboard ones. I wish they had realized that.

For £200 that'd be about right for the amount of plastic. They just wouldn't have sold enough to warrent all the different sprues if they did.

I was thinking they might have done something like the Realm of Battle Board mixed with space crusade in 3D...

SpaceCrusadehad only four big tiles

how cool would SPace hulk be if it had 1'x1' plastic tiles...
Rumours are evil, I want plastic tiles, WahwahWah...

I have some of those, while they might be fun, there arean't as many ways you can arrange them. And you lose something of that claustrophobic feel.

Who's 3d table is that? What was the cost of material for the completed bits? I see part of a Bastion in there.

Back to the page with the Blood Angel profiles on it. It appears they are using the personal heraldry bit of the fluff.

IIRC, each Blood Angel, when they reach Vet Sgt(?), may use a personal icon in place of the Blood Angel symbol.

I like it, especially for a game where each Marine is named.

See I guess I am looking at this differently. 3D tiles would still require alot of work and painting, although I realize people had their hopes up for plastic tiles it just doesn't seem to be a better solution. Is a 1/8 to 1/4 inch unpainted plastic tile section, that doesn't fit or match previous tiles, better than a 1/8 inch cardboard tile that is complete with detail and with fit previous card tiles?

I’m sure glad GW is going to all plastic, so the ever-rising cost of white metal won’t impact the cost of their miniatures.

I think the Genstealers have been given a bad rep, they are not trying to kill the Terminators, they are just trying to get them to put on some helmets! Why would so many of them be carrying helmets otherwise? One of the pictures I saw looks like the Broodlord is telling the GS next to it to get more helmets because of the angles.

Hmmm... something just occurred to me. Is there fluff on what flavor Tyranids had infested the Hulk when the BA arrived? I'm beginning to ponder on how I will paint my Genestealers... I like the older 'classic' red and bone colored 'Nids, or something more Zerg-colored, but also like how the blue scheme contrasts sharply with the BA red, even if I don't like the execution of the sharp-highlight blue scheme of the new box 'Stealers.

In the not too distant future GW will be releasing a "13th mission" pdf on/via their website which will allow people to custom design and build their own missions.

I originally didn't consider backwards compatibility, as I was hoping to buy multiple sets (until I saw the price). There was also the possibility that the new Space Hulk might have come with 40mm Squares, which we really weren't sure of at the time.

I'm not saying that the cardboard tiles are awful. I'm just saying that I had a different expectation of what was going to be in the set based on the rumors, and naturally, I was a bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong, though...if the cardboard tiles are as good as the old ones, then I am just fine with them.

Personally, I would love a 3D Space Hulk set up...but that is ultimately not high enough on my priority list to get me to either build it or spend money on it.

What I actually would have really liked to have seen is the introduction of Boarding Action rules for 40K to take advantage of these tiles. So instead of asking: how can I use the contents of Space Hulk for 40K? The better question would have been: how can I use the contents of 40K to play Boarding Action scenarios in Space Hulk?

It's mine! I've a gallery on my webpage: http://www.freewebs.com/nedius/apps/photos/album?albumid=6771816

It's been a bit of a long term project - it's both a Space Hulk board, and a substitute for the Anphelion Base from Imperial Armour 4 - and as was stated earlier it's not the most practical, or cheap, set up. So far, two Imperial Sectors, one Sanctum Imperialis, one Bastion and lots of regimaental bases, plasticard, pipes and rods have gone into it's construction. Cost thus far around £200, and will probably take anohter £50-£100 just to have enough for 'Suicide Mission'. It's also pretty big - you'll need a 6x4 table for most missions, and a lot of storage.

However, building it has been immense fun, and the test games I've played using the unfinished set have been great (both SH and 40K). It also fits the 40mm Terminator bases. Which is handy! Eventually, I will aim to have a complete set for the new edition, including using shrine of the aquilla bits for a large chapel for objectives.

On the new space hulk, do any of the books have a hobby section? A painting or modelling guide?

The boarding action certainly is a great idea! Way back in the day the company that makes the game Silent Death had plans to come out with a boarding action game called Explosive Decompression but it never came about. I'd certainly go for a add-on or scenerio for boarding actions that could possibly tie in with Battle Fleet Gothic.

Nedius -

That's fantastic and looks like it's been a lot of fun to build and detail. Seeing that, I'm somewhat glad that GW didn't put out plastic floor tiles ... now I have a reason to build my own 3D board !!! I always planned to build a space ship board but never thought to do it for Space Hulk. Glad I didn't start it yet but you've inspired me to get to work. Thanks for sharing !!

Just those that cannot wait to get your hands on the new board game you might be able to practice with this.

The game is only designed to be a single player game. You take on the role of the commander of the Space Marine chapters and the computer play as your enemy; leading the hordes of Genestealers against you.

For plastic corridors I was especting something like plastic textured tiles with 2 faces, plastic doors and transparent green tokens and maybe some kind of cool system like the new landind pad movable flaps... I dont hate cardbard but plastic like I imagined would not be that much ( looking at the size of landing pad) and would be THE spacehulk of 2009.

I wouldn't be surprised.... I said it before, I was in my FLGS on Monday 10 minutes after they opened and I was the 6th person on the list for a copy of Space Hulk. And what about additional campains? The 2nd Ed mission book had three campaigns in it. There were four in the Space Hulk Campaign books. WD printed about 4-6 multi-mission Campaigns as well.

Probably just depends whether I'm posting from work or not. Lego also says that the system is a bit 'iffy' in the way it works. I'm in Oz.

You've heard good things because it is good. The movie's symbolism is about as sublte as a Titan to the face, and it's a bit scattered in its point of view, but otherwise it's very good.

GW hasn't said anything about the exact numbers. The only definitive statement was that Germany will only receive 5000.

Not to make too big of an assumption but if we extrapolate how much market share Germany relative to the world comprises for GW and assume the world will see a truly proportional quantity, it looks like about 85000 (5000 = 6%).
6% comes from Germany being 1/3 of continental European sales, with continental European sales equaling 18% of GWs revenue. Meaning the US and UK (each approx. 35%) will each receive about 30,600 copies.

FWIW, the army that I most want to see get some SH love in the form of homebrew or FFG is the Necrons. I think they would be suited for a few interesting games of SH, once you get their rules right (easier said than done). They could be the hunter or the huntee.

I think it'd be nice to see all the races represented in Space Hulk. I think it'd be easy to do all the varieties of marines, spikey and non. Ork Meganobs would also be simple. I think it gets harder with the other Xenos. When you create lists the inclination will be these option packed units, since every ones so used to 40k. More than 40k its important to think of the force as a characterful unit, as much as these Terminators are all named. For IG something in the vein of the 3rd edition Last Chancers is what should be shot for. Tau, stealth suits and kroots; Eldar Harlequins.
