As a Tyranid player I really have no sympathy for you. You're kicking off that it might be a year for you to get a further wave.

Need I remind you we only 'just' got Tervigons?

How long ago was your Codex released?

I'm actually just asking so I know what I should/might/could expect

Nids came out january 2010 from what my memory recalls.

so its been 2 years just to get tervigons by that time most people have converted their carnifexs up anyways.

Yes, but Nids have had a Codex update every single edition so far, and they are the only Xenos that have gotten that treatment as far as I'm aware.

Necrons Took 8 Years for their codex update, expecting a second wave sooner than later, is perfectly reasonable.

Just barely (their 4th edition scraped in before the release of 5th I think), but it seems unlikely they will get a 5th edition update before 6th comes out this summer.

I'd love to trade them - problem is, with 6th Ed lurking on the horizon, I'm not sure what I'd trade them for! Who knows how 6th will shift the metagame, whether it will still be a game of squishies in boxes armed with heat rays or if it will lurch to something else.

4th Ed = Las/Plas
5th Ed = Missiles/Melta
6th Ed = ?????

You're right, Panic. I could keep/collect them because they're cool.

But they're not -that- cool.

I want to play and collect a competitive, effective army. I don't care that much about having a meta winning army. If I did, I would've played GK for longer than two months or would've started a Space Wolf army by now.

While I used to enjoy converting and scratchbuilding models, I just don't have the time to do it anymore. And frankly, IMO, for Necrons to be effective and competitive, you need to put Night Scythes on the table. So, I can shelve my grand worth of Necrons until GW (or some third party) puts out some Night Scythes. But that's locking up good trade stock that I could put to use for an army that is more fun (and more competitive) to play.

Personally, I think this is more poor decisionmaking on GW's part - I'd love to see GW produce a high-quality, competitive Xenos army. And in truth, they're getting closer. While Tyranids were fail, DE are better (though still not as competitive as Flavor-of-the-Week Space Marines - not counting CSM), and Necrons are better still, though still don't have the tools to have more than a couple competitive builds. If GW wanted to keep the excitement for Necrons, their next release would include the Scythe kits, which are a pretty key ingredient to the army. Instead, it's looking like the Scythe gets the back burner to wait for 6th Ed and a Power-Armor vs. Power-Armor starter set. Xenos get pushed aside again.

I'd love for Necrons to be a fun enough and cool enough army for me to want to keep playing. But right now, I'm not convinced. And by the time the models come out that might convince me, my attention will probably be caught by something that is cooler, more fun, and more competitive.

I certainly agree with you in that GW's 'business' decisions don't make a lot of business sense. However, I disagree with you in that Necrons need Night Scythes to be effective and competitive.

Scarab swarm isn't the only effective, competitive, and fun Necron list.
MTO/WraithWing isn't the only effective, competitive, and fun Necron list.
Tremorcon isn't the only effective, competitive, and fun Necron list.

I really enjoy my Necrons, but if you don't then maybe you should trade in those Necrons.

Some people enjoy competitive armies, believe it or not. Kudos for playing a hellion army, but that style just isn't for everyone.

My money's on something related to DeepStrike and Assault getting a massive change up.
(that would explain the nerf Flayed Ones received, to a degree. Why else would GW seemingly decrease the effectiveness of a unit, while increasing their retail price? Obviously this makes very little business sense, as with those two factors no one would want to buy them... unless they had something in the works which would suddenly make them awesome again)

6th ED will make PE for shooting and assault
It will also add the 'Heavy' vehicle type
Finally, it will make combat weapons more powerful
As well as that, every codex released will get some flyer-esque vehicle

So do I.. My razorwing jetfighter is just begging to be immune to powerfists and the like (dont know if thats what they're going to do but hitting a jetfighter with a powerfist just seems really silly)

It's easy to hit a jet with a Powerfist! You just punch the ground real hard, so you rokkit up to high-five it!

I've hated the fact that ANY "flying" vehicle can be hit by melee weapons.

by 'flyer-esque' I mean the fast, skimmer vehicles we're seeing now (Valkyrie, Storm Raven, Night Scythe, Doom Sythe, Razor Wing, e.t.c)
though *apperently* there are now rumors saying skimmers can only be hit in combat by Jetbikes and Jump Infantry, unless they are stunned/immoblised. When they can't move, they can get hit in melee by anyone

of couse, I've only just started hearing this, so I don't know whether it is true (PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE BE TRUE!)

anyway, let's start talking more about 'crons, and less about 6th ED

In the leaked 6E rulebook (which apparently isn't all that accurate as far as final products go), if a skimmer went fast enough that it left the board, turned around, and zoomed back on, something anything with the Supersonic rule could do, it couldn't be hit in CC at all. If it just flew around normally, it was basically in hover mode rather than flyer mode, and you'd hit it like any other vehicle.
We'll see how that ends up panning out once 6E is actually released.

We don’t have any photos of the forthcoming release but we do have an artist’s sketch of the final Necron Triarch Stalker model. It looks very similar to the Codex art work and what allot of people have already built at home.

Our information suggests that the release will include the:

Triarch Stalker
Tomb Blade
Canoptek Wraith
Canoptek Spyder
Nemesor Zahndrekh
Vargard Obyron
Illuminor Szeras
Destroyer Lord Upgrade Pack
Heavy Destroyer Upgrade Pack

This would make sense, especially the PE for shooting. Otherwise, I don't think my Destroyers will ever see much play.
