St. Louis (the Metro area where I live) has lots of great train shops and a museum of transportation with trains . Lots of rail lines came through here and still do. Also lots of train hobby stores including one walking distance even for this fat guy, though the owner mainly specializes in used kits, but I’ve gotten tons of spares and broken stuff from him to make scenery from.
Lots of train shows here too.

Thanks to a nice sunny weekend, I took the time to do a complete stripdown of the printer and clean it all to within an inch of it's life as it had become slightly sticky all over with residue that isopropyl on it's own didn't seem to have removed. Some soapy water seems to have helped clean that all off. While it was in pieces, the new screen went in really easily and a test print done afterwards has blessed me with an error free set of tracks for the Caiman tank so it looks like that was the culprit after all!
I nipped into the office today and picked up all the remaining Forbidden Fortress kits. They have been stashed under my desk waiting for quiet lunchtimes to assemble... quiet lunchtimes don't seem to happen in my job, so they have been there some time! Time to rectify that and just build them all so I can actually play. Nice ones can be painted up, bad ones can have alternative models found... and there are some really bad ones in all of the sets.
They have a few ghost kits that look like they are trying to go for the GW look, but from sculptor and mold makers that don't quite get it. Here's one of the ghosts compared to one of the GW ones and tell me there's not a massive difference in quality
Replacing monsters is a pretty simple task as who knows what scale they are, but some are supposed to be humans (or dead humans in some cases) and the scale is something special on these. The Forbidden Fortress figures aren't too bad in terms of proportions, but some of the western ones are truly terrifying. This is one hero and one villain lined up against a semi-painted Black Scorpion cowboy that I hoped would be a good source of alternate figures.
Does anyone know of a good source of 3d printable cowboys and mexican soldiers? I don't particularly want to have to use Hero Forge for everything... that will get expensive very quickly

Dakota’s very own Necros does Blackwater Gultch. They are selling the sculpts and have a Patreon as well. Cowboy and outlaw gangs as well as Indians, Chinese westerners and werewolves to boot. Reasonably priced stl files.

I took a few days off to unwind a bit and actually get some painting done as all the meetings recently involve having to concentrate. How dare they?!
The painting table has loads of partially finished, but when the new 7TV zombie bear turned up yesterday afternoon, he had to leap to the top of the queue as he's a glorious model. He'll go nicely with my Circus of Terror cast. Here he's shown next to a zombie clown for scale
After finishing the Zombear, I finally finished the Sumo character for Shadows of Brimstone
Slightly bemused by the nice sharp pictures going blurry during the upload :/

Nice work endtrans! I think some of the fuzzyness has to do with how they display on the threads, rather than an actual decrease in sharpness on the original photo.

This is true, it does just squash the images, rather than displaying smaller versions... so bang goes the crispness. Maybe I'll just start uploading smaller images so they don't get obliterated quite so much
Arakasi reminded me that I need to sort something for this month's painting challenge... Eternal War. I have some ideas on that one, related to something I'll be posting tomorrow once I've taken a few pictures... I also need to post an update in the Tallarn thread as there's been some movement on that side as well!

This update is a bit of a mixed bag of things that have been partially done on the painting table, or some things that I never got around to photographing.
Ages ago I printed and painted these three gargoyles. Sadly I can't remember where the models came from :/
While I was painting them I also put some paint onto the giant living statue from Shadows of Brimstone: Forbidden Fortress. He's HUGE as you can see from the placeholder guardsman
There are also some new guardsmen in the Tallarn thread
I started painting the cultists from Cthulhu: Death ay Die a while back, but got a bit bored given the fairly bland sculpts and repeat poses. The cultists are used in pretty much ever adventure, so it made sense to start with them first. Thankfully this is the largest group of minions in the game, so I'm now onto the actual monsters and heroes, which is where the interesting things sit
This ties nicely into the Long War. What could be longer than some eternal evil like the Yellow King? His 4 cultists are also on the painting table, so while I can't submit them to the competition, I can at least make sure they are finished at the same time as their master.

So the Long War isn't happening as planned. I keep forgetting to bring him in from the shed to start painting him up. So much for taking off a few days to get a start on him! What is happening though is some movement on two more Shadows of Brimstone characters, the Geisha and female sumo as they sit on my desk and get bits done in conference calls
There are only a couple of little bits left on the lady in yellow to finish and then she needs a base printing. I've got some nice Japanese themed bases from the various Patreon projects, so I'm sure something will fit

Thanks! I wanted the geisha to be nice and bright. They will probably be dirtied up a bit before they get finished though as they are dungeon crawling! Automatically Appended Next Post: While clearing up the painting backlog a bit, I came across these eggs that just needed basing. They are very scaled down from a model I found on Thingiverse and will be used as eggs/spawn points for the 7TV fungal creatures that I posted a few pages back. They have the benefit of spawning wherever you want them on the table and in the following turn they change into a big scary monster... for significantly less points as there's the risk of the eggs being destroyed before they hatch. Good fun though as they will be easily missed/forgotten on a terrain heavy table

So Hastur and his harem are as done as they are likely to get... I'm now sick of painting yellow for a while so they are now done. They look better in person, but only a little bit
The bases are not complete, but I need to work out what I'm doing regarding bases as C MD is all indoors but I'm also likely to want to use them in 7TV Pulp games. The plastic is a bit weird and wasn't cutting well, otherwise I'd have put them all on perspex bases to make life simpler.
Time to look at what else is partially painted and finish all of that off before I start on anything new!

With Hastur now done, it is time to move onto the other big bad from the core Death May Die box as part of this month's painting challenge: Halloween!
The other main villain in Cthulhu: Death May Die is... unsurprisingly... Cthulhu and a Star Spawn. Just to throw a stretch goal in there for me, Cthulhu from Shadows of Brimstone as well while I'm on the big C. To give you a sense of scale in there, a guardsman doesn't quite come up to the knee of the largest Cthulhu in that image. I think I need to get my airbrush working again to get started on these...

This week has mostly been finishing off a few of the half done bits on the painting table...
You saw an early pass at the sumo lady. She's now ready to go purge the temples of ghosts
One of those is the Harionago
This fishman is from one of the earlier Artisan Guild patreon packs. He was an experiment with a black undercoat, drybrushed top down with grey and then contrast paints over the top. Seems to work ok and was fairly quick to do
The next two are from Crooked Dice, the first is a jester/fool type character from their folk horror series and goes with the Laird from a few pages back
And then there's this annoying little bot that most of you should hopefully recognise..
