Great stuff, I love the griffon, did you use your 'usual' methods for him? he appears less blended and more layered or is it just the style of the model making him appear thus? either way, you've done an excellent job on him, I quite like the purples and greens too, it's nice to see them in lighter shades up to near white, I always find i have a tendancy to start darker and am scared to work my highlights up that much, but yours always appears more natural so i may learn from you and just try it and see how i go :-)

can't wait to see what's next!

@DarkStarSabre: It's indeed meant to be a branding and I'm fairly sure that there wouldn't be the tramp stamp association if the griffon's butt wasn't so smooth and shapley.

@Tortured-Robot: Cheers: I think that there generally is a bit less interest in fantay things on Dakka but it's always nice to see people liking the stuff even if they're not into it technically.

@Rawson: Thanks. Good point about the fuzziness. Maybe I'll add a bit of that. In general, this model is incredibly smooth. Too much for its own good in my opinion. The feathers have NO texture at all and I blame CAD for that. If the models were properly hand-sculpted, such a thing would never happen. Don't get me wrong, the griffon is rather pretty but the quality is very, very much "starter box"-like and below GW's standards. The pegasus, almost 10 years older, is a superior sculpt.

@nerdfest09: Hmm, I did use my regular methods but I think it's the look of the model that makes it look different. As mentioned in the reply to Rawson's comment, I'm not awfully fond of the execution of the model. Anyway, thanks. I too think that it looks pretty, despite the kind of poor model itself.

@Rogue Wolves: Thank you.

@Dysartes: Thanks and indeed.

There's news!

Well, not really news per se, more like more of the same.

Spot on.

The model just has no texture whatsoever which is a shame - so it does indeed look like a tramp stamp on its shapely rear.

The World Eaters look promising though.

Now only a CSM player.

@DarkStarSabre: Yus. Despite other indications, the fact of starter box models always being slightly inferior to regular ones still seems to apply. I still blame CAD though.

This afternoon i looked and Mr Contemptor seemed like he'd just sneezed in a flour mill!..... Now however barely a few hours later, he has apparently cleaned himself off rather well to show a rather tasty and worn battle hardened exterior! Sigur, that weathering on him works a treat! as does the additions of the hazzard stripes, they add a dash of colour he needs!

Hmm, I am loving the blues and whites, esp the blue, but at times I am finding the Chevrons very distracting, especially when competing as contrast elements with the blood splats and battle damage... There are a few too many things going on that are pulling my eye to 3 or 4 places at once if you know what I mean?

I am not suggesting to remove the chevrons all together, but perhaps a reduction of real-estate... take the Contemptor's 'collar' vs the fists as an example - the net effect may be a little less Iron Warrior'ish in terms of use of that specific design element to that degree too...

Small nit-pics and very subjective, overall, very exiting! Gotta love Heresy WE!

@Nerdfest09: Thanks.

@MajorTom11: Hey, thanks for the input. I think I know what you mean. I think it would look a bit less busy if I replaced the hazard stripes on the "collar" with a lining of gunmetal silver like the chevrons on the "shoulders". By the way, that's a very snazzy christmas avatar.

Update!

You know, my original plan was to do one Land Raider, the Contemptor after that and then the other Land Raider so it wouldn't get boring. That's why I did some catching up on the Land Raider.

By the way, check your mailboxes. Maelstrom Games got their christmas discount going. 17% off which I think is a little less than last year but I started browsing for Infinity stuff again. I think it may be time to get some remotes.

It's actually the reverse - to me the Collar looks great, the gloves are the part that is tough to look away from if you see what I mean?

Your landraiders look great, they actually represent the Ratio of chevron to white to blue I was trying to get at if you see what I mean?

Anyways, like I said, just IMHO, but this army is shaping up fantastically all the same!

@MajorTom11: Oh yes, I get your point now. It's basically that the colour scheme has larger surfaces of deep blue with just strips or bits of hazard stripes patterns across the models, like on the Land Raider. The whole thing is more or less inversed on the Contemptor with smaller blue parts and the CCWs being large, hazard stripe pattern portions. Yeah, I get that point now but the customer asked for the CCW to be that way so I stuck to it. But logically you're right, it looks a bit off in regard to the rest of the army.

@bigfish: I hope you'll like him now.

Update time!

First, the Contemptor:

Mostly finished really, he needs some details on the back done.

Then there's the Land Raider which I'm still working on as I got held up with basing the whole crew...

...so here it is. Not quite finished as there will be some more grime and dirt but I got a question and would like your opinion on that:

..I'm not sure if I should point it out at all but what do you think of the bloody pattern on the front hatch? It was one of those ideas I tend to get when painting until late at night. Does it look appropriately over-the-top violent with a darkly humorous bent (as 40k pretty much is to me), does it look too much like a gory version of the loony tunes? Is it not noticable at all? Does it just look bad? What do you think?

Here's a side shot, just for funsies:

Comments and critique are welcome as always.

Looks like it ran over Bart Simpson... *chuckle*

They look great Sigur, and no, the impression isn't too much. It's a nice touch, and more subtle than you might think given the amount of weathering and the color (i.e. not brilliant red).

I think my favorite bit is the side shot of the raider, the blood smear at the front just looks great! like they really have been grabbing the sides as they swing themselves in and out of the assault ramp to butcher the enemy! and i love the tiny bloody handprints! it's those details that make people go 'wow' that's cool as ice! but way cooler than 'mr ice cool' (anyone's cooler than that guy!)

@Vitruvian XVII: Cheers!

@Rogue Wolves: Thank you!

@Dysartes: Hehe. Yeah, my excuse is that World Eaters don't really care about fixing scratches and such between battles and rather than that show pride in these scars of battle (apart from that I'm sure that they're busy enough with picking bits of people from their weapons and from between their teeth ).

@Gitsplitta: Daemon! Now I won't be able to get that image out of my head!

@nerdfest09: Thanks. I have no idea who you are referring to but it sure sounds like words of wisdom.

@Dysartes: Thanks. Hehe, sure he's got a Boltun but he got a rightously large one to use as a club. :p

@bigfish: Yay, thanks.

@nerdfest09: Now that is one seriously cool dude. I can clearly see that it takes quite a lot (of ink) to be as cool a dude as he is. Me, I collect Imperial Guard mainly (Turan 24th Outlanders based on Catachans, Turan 3rd Capital Militia based on the new Cadians, Turan 2nd Irregulars who have all the Ogryns, Squats, Ratlings, psykers and all that painted along with a Valhallan army that hates me because I haven't painted them since getting them in ...god, that must be 2007. Last year I got a ton of SO awesome IG stuff from the nicest guy in the world. A platoon of Mordians plus some Tallarns, Attilans [who I didn't have until then. shame on me because I always loved the IG roughriders] and some other stuff). Well, I like my IG things. Then there's an Orks army consisting of all 1st and 2nd edition models (which I posted earlier in this thread) and which pretty much was the army of my dreams so it's very cool that I got to do this one and a Sisters of Battle army on the side because they're so damned pretty.

For WHFB I got a Dark Elves army as well as an Empire army that still waits to be actually painted (and put together). More prominently featured lately in this thread is my Infinity "army" (as they call it). I also got a BFG fleet (imperial navy), used to have an Orlock gang for Necromunda who got incorporated into my Turan IG, I have plents of models and the rules to play Gorkamorka, a heap of Epic plastics (got the Space Marine game box plus Renegades along with the old Eldar warhost box as part of a payment for a commission job last year and a bunch of IG and Squats before that.) I'm interested in almost all eras of historical wargaming but there simply is nobody around to play (I recently almost got a bunch of these really cool Old West miniatures from Knuckleduster Miniatures after finding this quick and easy Old West skirmish ruleset online). Basically each new release is tempting me. I'm sure that's what it's like for most wargamers. Even stuff like Warpath got me interested even though it's as close to 40k as you can probably get. Oh, Black Powder is really tempting. For some reason I'm really interested in playing 30 years war even though it was such a horrible catastrophe to Europe. I have to admit that I like the "uniforms" though and the whole earlier horse and musket thing. Napoleonics sound like a very cool era to play due to how cavalry, line infantry and artillery have to be used in conjunction with each other so from a gaming point of view that's rather interesting. I'm not all that much into the uniforms though. I don't even know why because they're darned good looking uniforms too. On all sides really. WW2 - of course, yeah, interesting. Mostly I'd find that interesting at a squad- to platoon-level skirmish scale game with maybe one or two vehicles per side, set in the early war period (because over the years I just grew so tired of the late war stuff. Let me have weird-looking, complicated armoured cars, 700 different types of tankettes and Neubaufahrzeuge and the like). Warlord Games are doing this awesome range of 28mm WW2 miniatures. I mean they got Belgians! How cool is that? Anyhow, nobody to play historical wargames around here as far as I'M aware and I'm already struggling to get any games of the supermainstream things like 40k done. So yeah, that's what I'm into and what I got.

@Tortured Robot: mille grazie.

@Brother-Captain Scotti: hehe, thanks.

@MrMerlin: I just hope you mean me. :S

Just as a little update so this log doesn't fall into oblivion, here's a fun little picture:

They're named Koios and Kraios, after two of the Greek titans. It somehow seemed very fitting seeing how they're ...well, large battletanks but also because the titans were part of the "early" parts of ancient Green mythology and how the titans and Olympian gods fought a war which the titans lost and as a result were driven into Tartaros. So it's kind of fitting, you see.

As for more tangible things - Kraios obviously lacks blood splatters, a little work on the battle damage and both need the gun casings done.

Hope that everybody's having a nice weekend. I'll be off now to have robots make me some cocktails. :cool:
