Truly amazing stuff yet again!! You have inspired and motivated me to work on my airbrushing... though your brushwork is awesome also, the combination of your techniques create superb results.

I have started practicing airbrushing infantry models with some easy test pieces.

Nice work Egg... really sharp looking set of chaplains you have there. Why so many? Just for the fun of it or do you have specific uses in mind?

The marbling on the crozius turned out nicely. I've experimented with marbling before myself and it's not as easy to get right as it may seem (I don't think I every quite got it right).

Goodness, I just browsed 30 pages of this amazing thread! It's fantastic to see how your army grew here, the quality of the work is astounding. The airbrushing looks fantastic and your minis have a depth and clarity to them that'd often make the 'eavy metal team drool.

So just wanted to say fantastic work, and you have inspired me to try a little harder with my own painting!

I guess you'll be all over that Games Day 2012 mini based on the Blood Angels captain from the old 2nd edition box? I'm a Tau collector and I want one just because its so nostalic to me ^^

Sageheart wrote:that marble is beautiful, how did you do it! these are just more great works to add to your collection.

Thanks Sageheart. I did the marble through mostly trail and error. Found some tutorials online but none of which were the exact effect I was looking for. I used mostly P3 colours since they were the paints that had the colours I wanted the marble to be. Basically I start out with a dark grey base coat, then layered on the varying strips of lighter and lighter colour going up to the teal colour. Important thing with marble is to have multiple distinct layers though the actual edges can be feathered a bit. Also it's important to make sure the actual direction of the layers are in the same general direction. Once that was done, I did the top layer of veins, mostly using P3's menoth white with black right below to create more of a 3d effect. Final thing was to put in a thinned down coat of gloss varnish to give it a bit of a shine that marble would have.

Heh...actually these guys makes it 7 now: Terminator Chaplain, Jumppack Chaplain, Lemartes, Chaplain on Bike. Once I'm done my last guy with the plasma pistol I'll have 8 too .

Thanks MakeH. Always nice to hear my work inspires others to hobby more!

Thanks Gits. I have so many because GW makes so many. I'm into the hobbying/collecting side of things so I had to get at least one model of everything in their current range. Once the last chap is done, I'll be done with the chaplains and will move onto the next unit. Guess once I'm through with the GW range, I'll start on the Forgeworld one Marbling is tricky to do with painting, I've documented the way I did it in a response above.

Thanks Bewareofthephil. I am looking forward to the GD2012 mini! Sadly I won't be able to attend the actual convention so I'll have to source one from ebay.

Nice to see you completed the Space Hulk terminators. And yes the amount of bling they have is insane. But excellent work on them too.

And thanks for the marble effect tutorial too.

That's quite an intimidating group of religious fanatics there, Eggroll.

I agree with your decision not to give them traditional back banners - while the heraldic approach does allow for some nice freehand work, it does also seem like a fantastic way to mark yourself out as a target on the battlefield.

That's a fantastic looking group egg. Funny how none of them are looking to (their) left. Subliminal message there you think?

How did you do your black? Have a project in black myself coming up and I'm a bit concerned about making my black look decent.

Yeah, I noticed the posing similarity myself when doing this most recent batch of 4 chaps. Maybe the same guy sculpted all the chaplains? Either that or they have an inability to look to their left meaning if I was a demon, I'd stay to that side and never get singled out for death

The painting of the black is quite easy actually. Just a black primer followed by a airbrush of codex grey on the highlight areas. I try and keep this to a minimal and will often go back again with the black in the airbrush to tone things down a little. Finally, I do an edge highlight with codex grey again and that's all there is to it!

Thanks whalemusic360. I did see those chaplains but since they're chapter specific and won't fit into my BA army, I've decided to leave them out of my collection.

as usual those chaplains are to a very high standard.

On thing that bugs me a bit about the last one is the plasma pistol's OSL glow. You'd think if it was bright enough to put a blue glow around the gun it'd be strong enough to shine some blue onto the shoulder pad? It puts the whole effect off balance IMO.

It's a great mini non the less.

Thanks king. Yes, the OSL isn't very realistic and in an ideal world, I would have put some glow on the pads but this guys I'm just going to leave it as is. I rarely ever go back over a model once I've decided it's done.

Thanks tigerstein. Funny you should mention the Baal, my own has been sitting assembled and unpainted since Nov of 2010! I definitely need to get around to it. If you're on the fence about starting a P&M Blog I'd recommend you jump in, it'll help you log and track your progress and the feedback helps keep you motivated.
