I may have to start painting in bits. Sounds a heck of a lot better than painting with the full model assembled. For the update, really well done, Knightley. I have never been too good at painting little details. Anyways, I have a question: Have you ever had any experience with Resin Bases?

Cheers, great update!

Well so far the baby carrier conversion you did is my favorite.On the other hand the OLS that you have been doing on your later models (the last 3pages) have been more of interest.

Well page 30, I seriously didn't think I would get this far.

@Ogryn - My advice would be to give it a go, it certainly wouldn't hurt to try it on one model and see if you like it. Regarding your bases question I actually have a set of resin bases that I plan on using on one of the next pushes so you I should have a little bit of experience with it soon enough. Have you used them? if so what did you think of them?

@Zari - Cheers, I do thin my paint with water, I usually put some on my palette then add progressive blobs of water till I get the right constancy I want.

@Medabee - Nice choice I sometimes forget that I made that one it is one of my favorites as well.

Update: threw all the previous bits together after completing the last arm.

Very nice Knightley. Man I'm getting tired of saying that... screw one up once in a while, won't you?? Just for fun & to give the rest of us something different to do??

yeah,looking through your log I found;

But I gotta say Your my biggest inspiration here on dakka,due in part not just because of your great works but that you log them consistently and are always involved,not elitist. Elitism is NOT inspirational. Unless your a commissar.

Just asking, because I wanted to see some in a future update. Looks like you were prepared for that! The model is turning out really well, I like how you do the scrolls, and seals.

@Gits - Hahah, I would say your wish is my command however the last time I thought I screwed up a model every one thought it looked good, don't worry though I'm sure some one can find something to comment about.

@Zari - Thanks man, I have to say its a bit weird to be quoted, I can't say it's been done before. The way I see it, if I can give to the wargaming community just 1/10th of what I get from it with ideas, painting techniques, conversion schematics and theoretical debates then this is all worth it in some degree.

@Ogryn - Thanks man, the scrolls and purity seals were an accident, one that was pleasant enough that I decided to keep doing it like that.

@LDP - Cheers man, I'll take any compliment/comment I can, your Honor Guard for Marnius is looking tight as well btw.

@Norn King - Thank you

Update: Banner done, I need to attach it to the body and squiggle the bajezus out of the model.

I'm with LDP on this one. All I say about your minis is how insanely clean and crisp they are. I hope you don't get tired of hearing that, or this; AWESOME work as usual.

Knightley, I skimmed through a lot of this modeling blog (pages I missed), and loved them all! Also, this Banner has got to be one of my favorite pieces of yours. I have never seen someone do a banner that well. I cannot wait to see what it will look like after the other 3% is done.

@FP - Thanks man, dare I say how could anyone get tired of people commenting on their models? seems to me thats one of the reasons anyone would post online, so they can get input. heck even if it is only one word comments such as Clean, Awesome, Crisp.

@Ogryn - the last 3% is completed my man check below

@GD1 - Awesome man, I will keep a keen eye on your blog for your updates

Superb banner bearer dude! looking fantastic, the script on the rear looks great and the colour of his helmet is really nice, I can't imagine how much patience you have to paint every part of the mini so perfectly clean and smooth! but it's totally worth it, as they speak for themselves! I think i'll stick to only taking photo's from angles that make my stuff look half good! :-) and never the back lol!

Until i get to your skills/patience! well done again Knightly everything looks amazing!

@FP - Thanks mate

@Ice - Cheers, I guess it is the little things that help (like describing how the internals of a thrown grenade work eh?)

@LDP - Thanks, I think that the elites of my army deserve some special attention so that;'s why they are getting the squiggle happy writings.

@Norn King - Thank you

@NF09 - Cheers mate, its always worth it for me to work on each little part, there's 10 devastators where there are bits I couldn't paint and every time I pick them up that's all I can see so having a model where everything is painted to my standard helps focus on the good bits (not the bits I've missed... grumble grumble devastators grumble grumble)

@Miss Dee - I start with a base of Deneb Stone, I then wash it with Devan mud, after that's dry I do a very watered down coat of bleached bone being careful to leave the dark recesses on the armor joints, this is follow up by at least another 3 watered down coats. I have at least 2 more helmets to do (the Paladin Sgt and another NDK pilot head) so I could do a stage by stage if anyone is interested.

@Graven - Thanks man, I guess he does look good enough to eat as well.

@Gits - Thank you mate

@Ogryn - Happy to have made your day great!

Update: Squad 3 marine 6 WIP 2

Spoiler:

Army lists

10 Wyches, 2 nets, hekatrix, agonizer, haywire, phantasm?
3 Reaver jetbikes, calrops heatlance
1 raider, nightshield
1 ravager, Flicker field
1 archon
4 Incubi, Onslaught, klavex, demiklaves
3 Trueborn one has a dark lance

Gray Nights (Vanilla Spacemarines)
1 Librarian, quickening, avenger
10 tactical marines, missile launcher, flamer, power fist
1 Rhino
10 tactical marines, missile launcher, flamer, power fist
1 Rhino
5 scouts, missile launcher, sniper rifles, camo cloaks
1 dreadnaught, twin linked autocannons, twin linked autocannons
2 predators, heavy bolter sponsons, autocannons.

Table.
2 Objectives, one in a crater on my side of the board, the other between two buildings about the half way mark (highlighted green)
Dawn of war, I set up, librarian deploys in tower on the left flank, trying to stop the DE from deploying to close to my side, two 5 man tac’s with missile launchers deploy mid field on my side behind cover.

The 2 DE wyche squads deploy, one rear field on his side (due to the 18 inch deployment rule) the other squad deploy in the ruins on the right flank in cover.
DE stole initiative, bastards.

DE Turn 1
Raider/ravager come on the left flank and shoot at the librarian in the ruins, does nothing. The left flank wyches run forward under cover on their objective, the right flank wyches either stay still or move up, I can’t remember. His 3 Reaver jet bikes turbo boost over the ruins and drop caltrop grenades on the librarian he sustains a wound.

GN Turn 1
Two predators come on the left flank rifleman dread comes on centre field and the two Rhinos come on right flank, The right flank tac move so the missile launcher can see his true born, The librarian jumps down from the ruins, passes his leadership and incinerates 2 of the Reavers. The two predators try to shoot at the closest things and tanks but either due to night fighting or misses do nothing to anyone. In the assault phase the librarian assaults the lone jet bike and takes him down consolidating closer to the tanks. The scouts don’t come on yet.

DE turn 2
The left flank wyches run towards the librarian, the right flank wyches run towards the left flank and end up with 50% of their numbers in cover stretching over the road way. The raider boosts forwards and deploys the archon/incubi the ravager moves up as well and shoots at one of the predators and stops him from moving (I think) the raider shoots at the other predator and does nothing, the Trueborn fire at a rhino and fail to do anything. In the assault phase the librarian dies to the archon and they consolidate with a pain token.

GN Turn 2
Right hand predator moves right over the terrain, the Rhinos moved forward, one going 12 inches the other only going 6. In the shooting phase, the predator and the rhino who moved 6 inches all fire at the wyche squad and take down a few. The right hand tac squad fires a missile at the true born and miss. The Rifleman dread fires into the ruins wyches and doesn’t do anything. The left hand tac squad do the same and take down one I think.

DE turn 3
The ravager moves further up and behind some cover, the raider stays still, the ruins wyches bound out and run over difficult terrain and end up 4 inches away from the right hand tac squad, the incubi and archon move further up in the ruins. The ravager shoots and does nothing on the predator, the ravager is equally ineffective on the other predator. The Trueborn fires a darklance into the front Rhino does nothing. The assault phase brings the wyches into contact with my right hand tac squad and the melee ensues, the result. A tie, hilarity ensues.

GN turn 3
Predator moves back to its original position, the dreadnaught moves right to get a better shot at the archons group, the rhino’s move up. In the shooting phase the predators open up on the DE craft and manage to blow one to smithereens the other does nothing. The Rifleman dread opens up on the archons group and takes out 2 of the incubi, the right tac squad missile launches into the trueborn and kills 2, the storm bolter on the rhino shoots and misses. In the assault phase I lose 2 marines but don’t flee or take other wounds (leaving 2 left) scouts are nowhere to be seen.

DE turn 4
The archon separates from his incubi squad and manages to make it into combat with the right hand tac squad, wiping them out in one round of combat, gaining another pain token (seriously this guys melts face) The remaining incubi moves out of cover and rolls a 2 for his difficult terrain and ends up a sitting duck. The wyches kill 1 more marine which works out awesome for them. The ravager moves to its left and shoots at the right side predator and removes the autocannon. The true born fails his morale and runs off the table.

GN turn 4
The Rhinos move further up with the one in midfield sticking its nose out of the ruins to shoot at the wyches but spies the side armor of the ravager and decides to shoot at that the other Rhino boosts behind the ruins to come up behind the ruins. The right hand predator shoots at the ravager but the cover saves prove to be effective enough to save it. The other predator shoots at the archon and manages to score 1 wound (now he’s down to 2) the Rifleman dread also opens up on the archon but is ineffective because he’s gone to ground. In close combat the wyches melt the last marine and consolidate to the small cover there is. The scouts still do not come on the table.

DE turn 5
Wyches move towards the rifleman dread, the lone incubi moves towards the predator, the ravager scoots over to the other side of the ruins. the archon stands up and sits on the objective. In the shooting phase the ravager shoots at the predator and stops it from shooting, in the assault phase the wyches melt the dreadnaught and consolidate into the crater.

GN Turn 5
The predators all decide it’s a good idea to move, so one moves close to the ravager the other moves backwards to fill its vacant position. The rhinos all move the distance and deploy their troops. THE SCOUTS FINALLY TURN UP. In the shooting phase the closest rhino fires and doesn’t wound. The predator that backed up kills the last incubi.

DE Turn 6
The Wyches run towards the objective on my side of the board, the other wyches also run out of cover to the rear of the rhino, the ravager sits still and the archon decides to chill some more as well. In the assault phase the wyches in midfield multi-assault the marines and rhino, they kill 2 marines and immobilize the rhino and only take 1 wound in return, but the boys in grey stick to it.

GN Turn 6
The southernmost rhino moves up and blocks the street while its troops move up the ruins towards the objective. The predator that is unable to shoot moves up 6 inches, just to be menacing. In the shooting phase, the scouts shoot everything into the wyches on my side and miss with the missile launcher but hit with their sniper rifles, and kill one, this forces a pinning test. The predator that move back can now shoot at the wyches as well and kills one with bother heavy bolters. The storm bolter on the rhino fires and doesn’t do anything. In the melee the marines lose another one leaving the sergeant alive, he doesn’t kill anyone but doesn’t fall. Guess who fails the pinning test, that right the wyches do, unable to move or fire the next turn.

DE Turn 7
The archon decides to go mess up the scouts and runs towards them, the ravager moves over to contest the objective, it shoots at the predator but fails to do anything. In the assault the wyches kill the sergeant and consolidate 2 inches towards the objective, still too far away to capture.

GN turn 7
The rhino that was blocking the street moves next to the immobilized rhino the tac squad moves further up to the objective and is in running distance now. In the shooting phase, the rhinos open up on the closest unit of wyches and takes down 1 of their number. The scouts open up again on the other group of wyches but fail to do anything. The predator shoots at the ravager with everything but he manages to save all the shots with his 4+ cover save, there was some serious debate on if 50% of the model was covered but I decided to give it to him in the end (after all it’s a friendly game) The other predator opens up on the pinning unit of wyches but doesn’t do anything.

The game comes down to what happens next I can choose to assault the ravager and if I can take it out hope to consolidate to the objective for a win or I can run to the objective for a tie. Not happy with how I was rolling throughout the night I decide a draw will suit me fine and sprint to the objective. A die is rolled and the game finishes as a draw.

Afterwards while speaking to one of the redshirts he brings up the subject of krak grenades would have melted the ravager, so for giggles we do some rolling to see what would have happened. 5 dice are rolled, 2 hits, of those two only one penetrating hit, on the damage chart. Rolled a six, it would have exploded. Bugger.
