That's excellent, I'm a big fan of that style car/truck as well.

I've been lowering and lengthening out my trukks and I definitely look forward to seeing what you have in store for your Rat Rod.

Hey, it is a wrecker, right? Here's a couple thoughts:

1) Put some spare tires on each side over the wheel well.
2) Trophies - it's a wrecker, so theoretically, it should be able to drag wrecked vehicles off the battlefield. Why not put some trophies on the sides and back - maybe like a small pile of Necron legs in the bed along with some SM shoulder pads. Put some IG turret hatches on the side. This shouldn't just be scrap, this should be some trophy scrap!

Trophies! That's perfect. The army is a bit lacking in the trophy department, and I really like how that jives with the whole feel of a band of orks scavenging the skid for scrap.

This is why I dig posting here on Dakka. Sometimes you spend so much time on a project that you get tunnel vision, and outside input is always of great value. Thanks again guys!

Well, Summer has come and gone, and I've been bitten once again by the hobby bug. Bitten hard, it seems, as I've developed hardcore gamer ADD. Far too many project ideas swimming around my head, I've been sketching like a mad man.

Luckily, I've also been working! First up is 'Da Wrekka Trukk'. The rear was looking a bit too clean, with straight even lines. I've tried to break that up a bit by adding a few minor armor plates. If I can get my hands on some good scale jewelers chain I'll add it in bundles here and there, but for now I'm content to say she's ready for paint.

Next is the Dump Trukk. I've gotten a bit more structure work done, detailed the bucket interior, finished the grill details, and added a big skull glyph, fenders, and a magnetized front ram. She still needs some solid orkification, which I'll get to as soon as I stop flitting from project to project like a buzzer squig hopped up on pixie sticks and amphetamines...

But I digress... the dump trukk, so far:

I've also slapped together some Tankbustas! I abhor the stock metal models, I think they just look a bit naff. So I built myself some custom 'bustas. The previous ed. Ork codex had a small bit of concept art next to each unit entry, and the picture for the Tankbustas featured an ork in cobbled, scrap armor plating and a metal blast mask covering his face. I love the sinister feeling it gave the tankbustas, akin to a pack of predators hunting much larger prey.

I grabbed my old tankbusta unit, dipped them, and cut them into bits to use in the new versions! I'm clinging to the hope that some plastic reincarnation voodoo helps these reborn tankbustas with their aim. I wanted to include lots of different style rocket launchers, from the over the shoulder 'Stinger', to modified shotgun looking hand cannons, to the smaller rocket-pistols on the GW models. I'm particularly happy with how the drum-fed grenade launcher style gun turned out, personally.

I'm fiddling about with a Tankhamma conversion as well, more to come on him later.

Finally a Battlewagon! The imperial landraider has long been the go-to for ork looted b-wagon conversions, so I figured I'd have a go. I started with a used landraider I snagged dirt cheap from a friend. To get the shape and overall look I'm going for, I shortened the track sections. It was involved, but not nearly as nightmarishly difficult as I had expected. Some fairly simple greenstuffing in the gap coupled with some love from a flat file, and the joint is smooth and I suspect easily disguised with paint. I've loosely mated the tracks with the current battlewagon cab section. I like the strong, stout feel and overall shape so far.

The plan is to build the transport platform off the back, and plate some ramshackle "sponsons" on those widened side ports. I picture orks hanging out the side, yelling and firing big shootas as this beast trundles forward, belching smoke from several giant smokestacks.

That's it for now. I'm playing about with several more ideas at present, like a High-Tech Warphead, Iron-Eagle Zagstruk, some Kommandos, even a Stompa project thus far dubbed "Operation: Lose the Mumu". Until then, enjoy the pics, C&C always welcome and appreciated!

Love the custom 'Bustas and your plan for the Battlewagon is white hot - can't wait to see where you go with it!

Thanks guys! Re: the Battlewagon, I'm stuck on two points.

1. The battlewagon front ram attachment points. The cab features those two circular mounting points for the beautiful stock toothy front ram. I gotta file them down, hide them, or re-purpose them. The easiest route would be to file the down completely and just plate over it, but I'm not sure if there's something more glamorous I could do. What do you guys think? This flows into...

2. The front ram. I want to add a nice front ram, or a zoggin' huge prow. The stock bit from the battlewagon kit is a beauty, so I don't want to fall short in that regard. I can either use it as a base and beef it out to fit the larger stature, or I can scratch build something else in a similar fashion. To fit in with the rest of my army, a large toothy maw is necessary, but other than that I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Teek you harness some great skills but I have to point out one thing. The tankbusta's with the ninja turtle like mask headband absolutely brutal man. I think those are by far the coolest thing ever done to an ork.

Statement: This definition, I am told, is subject to interpretation. Obviously, love is a matter of odds. Not many meatbags could make such a shot, and fewer would derive love from it. Yet for me, love is knowing your target, putting them in your targeting reticle, and together, achieving a singular purpose, against statistically long odds." ~ HK-47

I say either razorsaw/file them off or use them as a connection point for some big loudspeakers and/or spotlights.

I say you go for a zoggin' huge prow - like, think a gigantor cattle guard like on old-fashioned steam engines - something pointy and toothy and triangular.

Very nice. I like how all your vehicles have a very unique look to them. Are you sure you want a front ram for your Battlewagon? Because it looks like great opportunity to put a giant meatgrinder-like deff-rolla in there.

That's awesome, I dig the warphead! I found some concept art a long time ago featuring weirdboyz covered in capacitors and copper plates, etc., and lately I've been collecting the bits I'd need to do the idea justice. I've always liked the idea of a high tech ork psyker, using mekboy know whats to harness Waaagh energy. Big Waagh battery! If Gamer ADD consumes me, I might get started on him sooner than later.

The plan for the battlewagon ram is to magnetize it, so I can hot-swap a deffrolla or ram depending on the list I want to play.

For what it's worth, a google image search for "train snow plow" gave me all kinds of reference images for a large, brutal, angular ram. Progress pics coming when I get home.

Super fast update, complete with super crappy lunch-break photos!

Tankbusta with tankhamma, very very WIP.

Needs: greenstuff neck, armor plating, tank bits, and of course the business end of the tankhamma, which I'm working on.

I've decided that gamer A.D.D. isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm hopping from project to project like a madman, but in the end it's a hobby, so why not work on whatever you feel like working on? I'm dying to start the warphead, and paint the tankbustas. More to come...

Thanks for the compliments! I agree the handle is a bit long at the moment. I plan to shorten it once I have a hammer head, but I figured cutting it longer to begin with gives me flexibility when I eventually detail it.

As for the beating end, here's my train of thought:

A simple rocket on a stick (while undeniably orky) seems a bit daft to me. One attack and you're spent (and nearly dead, also undeniably orky). What I have in mind is more of an impact hammer, where the ork loads a rocket into the back, and on impact the detonation drives the hammering force through a custom gnarly, meat-tenderizer style hammer face. Similar to a powder-actuated nail gun, a device that drives cement nails with a charge similar to a .22 caliber bullet.

I'll update when I get some more progress shots.

Did you use toy chasis's as bases for the truks?

Been thinking of doing a similar cab design for my army but have been daunted by the prospect of building it all from plasticard..

@ShotgunFacelift:
Both trukks are built up from the GorkaMorka-era Ork Trukk kit. The only toy bits are the yellow plastic on the dump trukk. The bed and both front wheels were salvaged from a clearance bin toy truck. Dump trukk rear wheels from a John Deere toy tractor. That, and the red and black cable reel on the wrecker, it's an old hose reel from a Lego kit. The rest is either plastic card or GW bits.

Tankbustas!

They need a great deal more work, black needs highlights, metals need washing, entire models need weathering, etc.
Painting has been a nice change of pace, it's let me really stew up other ideas for the Warphead, Stompa, Kommandos, Stormboys...

Ahem...

***Paint in Progress***

I'm trying not to use too much yellow, to keep it as a minor accent. Likewise I'm trying to keep the blue flames a very strong visual component withing overdoing it. Like I said, they still need a great deal of work, but I was quite pleased with the progress thus far, and wanted to share it!

Teek your blue over black theme on the busta's is quite crisp. I don't see any real faults at all. Beautiful work my friend.

I have seldom ever literally said WOW im impressed. Orks have so much potential but often they fall to the wastse side much like people putting 430 skulls on a 40mm base for a chaos termie with 74 spikes comming out of him. You too something simple minded did some really resoute work to it and without overdueing the model themselves made them ...well WOW. Honestly great stuff and I definately look forward to seeing more of it. Also on a side note thank you for have some dsolid painting skills. Not trying to sound mean but their are people out there who do amazing conversions and then just such horrible paint jobs and well it hurts my eyes. With you I did not have that problem what so ever so thank you sir.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!
