How did you do the exhaust pipes on that bazooka? I didn't think the plasticard tubing would have kept that shape so peaceably.

Thanks for the compliments guys! I'm glad you like them so far!
@KingCracker: I used 8 or 9 hand-mixed shades on the bikes as I was experimenting to get the fade I wanted. On the Tankbustas, I only used 5 colors. I figure on smaller areas, with smaller flames, fewer colors would blend fine. I'm using three Vallejo blues in the flames, though my paint shaker has long since rubbed the names off the labels. I'm starting with (if memory serves) Royal blue, blending through a mid tone, and ending up with Intense Blue.
@The Good Green: For pcard bending, be it sheet or tubing, a bic lighter or candle is my best friend.
Washed and based the lads last night, so just some weathering and a lick of paint on the base and they're tabletop ready. Pics to come!

Time for my monthly update!
I finished the basing on my Tankbustas, but their clothes are still too clean. I'll throw a picture up after I weather them a bit. I didn't manage any progress on my Tankhammer boy, as I've been consumed by my new Weirdboy project.
I wanted a Weirdboy in my collection for the modeling opportunity and to spice up smaller friendly games. Problem is I really don't like the current model, nothing about it works for me. The head is ugly, pose is wonky, grot minders are meh, and those perfectly straight chains? Blegh. So the stock model is right out. However, I stumbled on a great stock of Ork concept art. This same collection led to Ein's stompa, as well as untold hundreds of other projects I'm sure. The art can be found here. Three pictures in particular caught my fancy, which I've taken the liberty of hosting here (with proper credit given).
The first is a mekboy, covered in fun worky gubbins. The other two are hi-tech weirdboys. The theory is that these weirdboys have covered themselves in batteries, capacitors, and brass plates in order to help control and store Waaagh energy. The very concept is unbelievably cool. A weirdboy turning himself from a loose cannon to a supercharged... erm... loose cannon.
So I set about pondering and drawing and digging up random bits.
The plan is to do a single, Hi-Tech Weirdboy covered in batteries and weilding an exceptionally complicated staff, flying just above ground. He'll be suspended upright, arms out to his sides, and head facing the sky, screaming. I'll use lots of loose, dangling cables and wires to acheive the flying look, and all manner of bits and pieces to build the rest of the detail. Right, plan sorted. Off to the races!
To start the head, I've combined the Black Orc Boss and the plastic mek head from the Loota/Burna box set. I special ordered this head in particular, as it has the most gnarly grimmace/scream expression, and to me epitomizes "old, angry ork" like no other.
So the story goes: this weirdboy began his career as any other Waaagh-channeling weirdo, until a rather unfortunate 'Eadbang left him on the Mad Doc's table. The doc managed to hammer all the squishy bits back in place, and reinforced matters with some steel plating. Knowing that the power seemed to concentrate there, he added some worky bits to help prevent any further 'eadbanging activity. The Weirdboy noticed the effectiveness of the "worky gubbins" and decided if something works, then even more somethings should work even better. The end result will look something like a cross between all three concept images listed above.
To get a more realistic "suspended in mid-air" pose, I hacked up one of the plastic nob bodies. Re-positioning the legs, as well as sliding the torso further back on the legs help give a more natural look, as if he's simply hanging in mid-air. I also chopped the boots up a bit, to add an arch to the feet and give them a more relaxed look. Some greenstuff work to blend things together, and that's where we stand.
For his left arm, I wanted something relatively simple, just a plain arm throwing the horns as a means of directing a Waaagh-fueled blast. I started with an old metal nob slugga arm, hacked off the unimportant bits, repositioned, and sculpted two new fingers over some very small pins. It needs a bit more GS to smooth the palm, and some overall filing, but I'm happy with the look thus far.
The last shot is just a quickie WIP, to show the look coming together. His right arm is just an old metal nob choppa arm, repositioned and drilled out to support the upcoming staff. This project really has my creative juices flowing, so I hope to make fast progress. I've got all manner of plans to add bits and bobs, so once I'm done with the general body shape I'll set about adding a copious amount of detailing. That's it for now, stay tuned for more. As always, C&C welcome and appreciated!

Very, very cool stuff. My vote is for the second of the two Weird Boyz you posted. That's some awesome concept artwork! Some is better than others - I thought the bikes were kind of goofy, but I particularly dig the Mekboyz with the V-8's strapped to their backs. I'll have to remember that when it comes time for me to make one.

Agree with your sentiments regarding the GW weird boy. Thankfully weird boyz are not a priority for me right now - but that concept art is awesome and I am looking forward to checking out the rest (time permitting!)
I think the word you are looking for is supercharged capacitor? (can't help but think flux capacitor - even though this has nothing to do with time - maybe a flork capacitor?)
I'm using that same mek head (all of it rather than part of it) for my current Big Mek WIP - mainly because the head bitz match the kustom force field bits (I've also detached the side of the kff and attached to the back - hoping to give the kff a more 3d feel). I also use a new nob body. After thinking they were a bit restrictive to work with, its amazing what a few cuts can do (my big mek is striding - but is still waiting on green stuff to patch up the rather large holes...)
Anyway - loving the WIP, can't wait to see more. As much as I love looking at completed models - I think watching them come together is a lot more worthwhile - and you get to see them completed at the end too! So thanks for making the effort! (and *much* better photos than mine - though I am hoping to rectify that soon...)

A bit more progress on the Weirdboy:
The body, after some more work. I've smoothed the hand a bit more, and filed the fingernails into a more menacing shape. The legs have the first stage of detail work, with what will become a belt of resistors on one thigh, and some funky "Waaagh-pacitors" on the other. The arms need greenstuff love, as I need to sculpt some armpits.
The start of his harness full of worky bits. To be precise, his shoulder houses a "coupla zappy bits, wiff some spinny gubbins in da middle". The back of this harness will hold several very large capacitor-looking devices.
The start of his staff. Detail work is underway, and I have great plans for the rest. I'll be doing something very similar to the concept art, with a skull hanging from a cantilever at the top of the staff. I just need to get my hands on a lego helmet...
Overall look so far, lots more detail to come. Stay tuned!

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House! |

More progress:
The Weirdboy about 80% finished. I've got a good bit of detailing left to do, including running scads of wires over, around, and through him.
Back detail showing the spinny gubbins and the Waaaghpacitors
More back detail, showing more of the Waaaghpacitors (hardwired to his noggin!) and the shape of the staff. You can see I'm drawing heavily from the various concept images, while still trying to maintain my own style.
One last overall shot, just because I can!
Progress will probably freeze until early January, as the next few weeks get busy.
C&C is always appreciated, hope you enjoy him so far!

Thanks for the kind words guys!
@The Good Green: Yes, there is an ork skull encased in the bastardized Librarian hood.
I managed to find a snazzy enough lego helmet and cut it into shape. Lego plastic is very soft and easy to cut, fyi, I'll probably sneak more into some future projects. I mounted the ork skull inside the hood, deciding that the skull belonged to the formor Weirdboy, and our opportunistic Waaagh-battery decided he could use it to enhance his own power.
Then things went downhill... as I mucked it up. I put in a few actual wires with rod and paperclip pieces, but the process was tedious beyond belief. My shortcut was to greenstuff and sculpt wires (seen in the preceeding photos) but I wasn't happy with the results. The GS has been mostly removed, and I'm building the wires in one at a time. Tedious yes, but I have to be satisfied with the final product.
Nothing worth doing is ever easy, it seems
