OK, so I posted the rumor that started this thread and I just want to clarify one point. I really don't think this is Space Wolves because he was discussing upcoming releases and had already talked about Space Wolves and DE when he mentioned this. He said that he has almost the entire next six months mapped out just by the pre-release stuff they've seen ( DE was not in there). Again, the way he said race he did not make it sound like a new codex and he said that he expected this to not actually hit the shelves for a while. I will feel like a complete if there is no truth to it but I guess we shall see come the 25th.
As for updating existing armies ( DE, Tyranids, SOB etc...), why would GW do that quickly? Everyone complaining about wanting updates should realize that they've already bought that army. For GW, there's a lot more money to be made introducing a new race that players will go out and buy 2K points worth rather than updating rules for player's so their existing armies work better in 5th Ed. From a sales forecasting pov, they probably map out the release schedule of existing army codices sometime before the release of the latest edition. It provides a reliable earnings forecast over the life of the current edition. I would think that things like Planet Strike and so on are added to that list as special projects and are also planned in advance. The goal of any company is to increase sales year over year, so adding new armies, game expansions and so on to the existing codex updates makes sense from a business perspective. As the brother of an avid BA fan, I can understand that it's lousy from a gaming perspective though. OK, thats a long boring post from an accountant-sorry!

In fairness, a BA Codex is profit, since none exists at the moment except the free one. There's no VAT on books, so Dexes are pure profit - costs, so a significant profit there. That said, by leaving the better old books out (WH and BT, for example) they can try and scrape more money out of those of us who haven't bothered to buy them even now.

History shows that GW update old codexs on their own schedule not how the players need it done, so I find it entirely possible they would release a new faction while there are old, legal armies who badly need bringing up to 5e.

The issue is that their lockdown policy means they wouldn't announce the release unless it was only several weeks away. And there aren't any new armies showing up on the trade order that I'm aware of. Again, unless it's a FW project.
FW, if they have finished IA 7 should be working on IA 8 which is orks and Elsian drop troops. I believe they want to do 2 ork books, with different klanz in each one. We 've already seen some of the new trukk/wagon parts, and they're also doing some mega kanz--kind of halfway between dreads and stompas I gather.
I reckon if the Ad Mech is done it will be a studio project.
..and, given that GW aren't officially saying that the Space Wolfs and Skaven are coming out, do you really see them announcing a brand new race that won't appear for several months. They want you to spend your pennies on THE LATEST COOL THING, not saving them for the cooler thing in a few months time.
EDIT : damn ,lost some type.
Also bear in mind that FW are supposed to be doing fantasy stuff as well--with the help of Mr. Priestley, and I don't think they've got the time for an entirely new range.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

You mean ones that aren't already in the game but are in the fluff?
Tau weren't in the fluff until they got invented. They were invented to provide an alternative look and feel to the existing factions.
If there is a good new idea for another faction which will provide another genuine alternative, I'd be for it.

My understanding is that every Imperial Armour book will have at least one Imperial faction in it.

Well, GW did these plastic Valkyries and now FW needs to push future conversion and upgrade kits for them. It also saves on creating new products, plus they can put a bigger focus on the Orks.

Well, I can hold out until next year for an updated Elysian list, in the meantime I'll just keep on using the D-99 list from IA4.
Here's hoping that the new Elysian models will at least include some nice head variations and more character types. I'm looking at you, elusive drop commissar!

New race will be Chaos Tyranids.
The Lash Whip will function as the Lash of Submission, and may be taken on all units.
You may Lash a unit into your own. This gives you a bonus attack as though you had charged, and the enemy automatically strikes at Initiative 1.
Additionally, all Tyranid close combat attacks are considered to be made by Monstrous Creatures.
You may put Without Number on all models in your army for 5 points. And models that are killed are allowed to re-enter via Deep Strike.
Sprues of spiky bitz will be sold for conversion purposes. They are not compatible with current Tyranids.
