Libs are great at holding up the First Amendment when it's them doing the expressing. If it's a dissenting voice then they pull out all the stops to squelch the noise and if that doesn't work, discredit it. This is how I know the Tea Party movement is getting to these people. They are pulling out all the stops.

The others are real. The Si Se Puede protesters are usually pretty tame, though. Its less about socialism, and more about immigration reform. Though the socialist rhetoric doesn't do them any favors in terms of progress, it does tend to attract a lot of immigrant interest due to the political biases they carry from their countries of origin.

Yep. As the economy continues its recovery, some of the "angry because we're angry" people will lose interest in tea parties.
I say "some" because the black helicopter, new world order crazies will still be going strong, just like they were during the booming '90s.

You know I watched an interesting interview last night on Frontline. It was an interview with a TeaParty member from Tampa, Florida. He made well reasoned and articulate arguments regarding the reduction of the size of government. I was actually impressed, and this is the kind of thing I am used to, from republican/conservative thinkers. Notthing like the kind of lunacy I see from the tea partiers, where I currently live in Appallacia.

I live in a major Metropolitan area and tea party types here are people of all walks of life. Most in my experience are above average in intelligence and are far from radical. Most just want to get on with their lives without onerous Federal regulation.

I would counter that his outfit color coordination, hint of eyeliner and snappy dress place him squarely in the metro-sexual phony tax protester camp. No self respecting tea party goer would coordinate like that.

He must have been a phony. We all know that the pot-smoking, liberal asshats who feel that the US would be better off being socialist with all of us holding hands and singing Kumbaya would be a better US are so "with the times" and "normal".
Not all tea-partiers are loons, just as not all liberals are asshats (only most of them).

If you actually think a second civil war would feature anything close to conventional operations....well, that'd be a pretty ridiculous thought. I'm not saying a second civil war is actually going to happen, but conventional operations? No way. It would be guerrilla warfare x10. The only way there would be anything close to conventional operations is if the military split or fragmented (which isn't unlikely), in which case the argument is basically moot anyway as multiple factions would then have access to high-tech equipment.

Yeah, it's quite fortunate than that our military has been practicing police actions and insurgency warfare since we first invaded afghanistan! Now instead of sending in troops the reaper drone can just see your militia set up a roadside bomb before waiting for you to return to your clubhouse and shooting you with a hellfire missile.

That's true, but it gets more complicated when you have more than one militia and more than one clubhouse (see Afghanistan). And if the military fragments (as would be reasonably likely in a civil war), then all bets are off.

As long as you put the uhh.. I dunno. Reamwo in dreamworld. You posited that a civil war wouldn't feature conventional operations and I agreed with you stating that our military had been practicing unconventional counter insurgency warfare for close to a decade. Pretending like the military institutions would somehow not decide the fate of an american civil war is paramount to hallucinogenic idiocy.

Texas, yes. The deep south? No.
I lived in Charleston, SC from when the economy first tanked, until recently. Between the massive unemployment there...and the social backwardness...zero fun.
As an addendum: the federal government gives a LOT of money to projects/bases in the South. Military, and not...without those, the situation below the Mason-Dixon would be far worse.
