Your work is absolutely stunning. The painting is ace, and your custom creations are simply put impressive. The one piece I like the most has to be the assault shuttle, but please, could you make the leading and trailing edges on the wings tapered? I have always wondered why conventional aerodynamics have been rendered useless in 40K.

Tank you very much, I blush at the egobolstering you people give me.

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.

Wow, i have really forgotten to update things around here.. oh well.. life gets in the way of ones hobbies on and then.
I must say that i was really thrown by the pics that GW leaked on the Stormraven a couple of weeks back, I sincerely hoped that it was a conversion but that notion flew out the window quite rapidly.
After all it is an obvious studio picture and the model quite simply isn't a conversion, wich makes me a bit sad.. I mean.. it just doesn't fit into the ranges in any way at all!
It looks like some mishapen lump that flew out of a modern animated disneymovie, it does barely tie in with the imperial designs at all and has a number of failed attempts in it's design to tie it together with the Space Marine tank designs, simply put: someone in the design studio didn't get his tea, someone was on leave and now we sit with a future release on par with the unexpected and confused release of the Dark Eldar army back in the 90's and the good old 'Virus outbreak'-card.. those of you who have been playing the game a while know what i mean and if not.. Google it.

To be perfectly honest it is the single most hideous piece Games Workshop has ever released.. even the old Nagash model to the WHFB range is more acceptable than this.
Games workshop has always released great things, they have in most cases gone from clarity to clarity in reworking their old material in new forms and relesing new and exiting things, the constant is that the quality of design has almost always improved greatly.. not so much this time I am afraid.. this time they Failed spectaculary.

While playing a game last weekend, steamrolling a friends blood angels with my black templars, we touched on the subject of this odd model.
Needless to say I was overtly critical in my views, I have over the years come to expect much of GW and are holding them to certain standard in their releases, my friend was less so but he still wasn't especially positive.
In any case we got a little loud and started getting some comments about our views on the stormraven from a few people who thought it looked 'badass', 'omgcool' and a number of other inconcivable superlatives praising this, in my view, flying dumpster.
The entire thing escalated a bit.

The whole thing more or less ended with one of them saying 'well you do it better yourself then!' since he had run out of arguments in his favour by wich I replied 'Fine, I will!'.

And here we are now..

Since a little bit of my stupid pride is on the line the assultshuttle will be slightly adjusted to become a functioning Stormraven Gunship, red paintjob and all.
This is where you come in, I would need some advice on how to arm the damn thing, assultcannons, multimeltas, lascannons? I have little idea of what a Stormraven 'should' be armed with and i am not that hot on the BA codex so a little help from you BloodAngel players and know-whats would be highly appreciated.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

I have to agree with you - the new model looks rubbish.

Personally I see these assault landers setting down amid the enemy lines, so they should be armed with weapons to clear entrenched infantry and perhaps weapon emplacements (I don't have the BA codex so I don't know what they should officially be armed with).

I'd probably go with a long-mid ranged anti-armour weapon and a long range anti-infantry weapon (since it is supposed to be a gunship as well as a transport).

wow, it sure has been some time since i posted here.. this winter has been way way to stressful to spare any time on my hobby projects I am afraid.

Well, I should have more spare time avalible and finally get these projects ready once 2011 is here but I have a small update on something completely random.
I built this more because I found an old chimera box in my storage and had a flash of inspiration to play around a little.. took me about an afternoon to finish and then throw a lick of basic paint on it.. at wich point I came up with the bright idea to add moving parts to the missilebox doors and removable missiles inside.. wich means that I dug out the tools and cut off a few things and removed the box 'doors'.. about here I thought 'hey, pictures dang it!'.. just thought I'd ecplain the scraped off paint in a few places, it's there because there are details cut off.

Anyhow, this is my manticore, clearly influenced by the MRLS Missile Artillery.. wich probably was the original inspiration for the manticore anyway..

and with the missile 'box' lowered.. of course it's a movable part!

Well that's all I got for now, Happy Holidays everyone!

Very Nice. I like that concept. Only thing is there is no visible indication that it's a missile launcher.

Needs somthing on the front of the missile box.

Great job. I think its really well done and resembles the MLRS or GMLS quite well. I for one dont need to see the missiles, to know that box contains something that hurts!!!

@ Wolfshadow: that is why I am peeling off the hatch and rebuilding it so it can be opened and reveal the (soon to be constructed) missiles within, the entire idea of housing the missiles in an armored box is so that they cannot be hit and detonated by schrapnel or small-arms fire is kind of made redundant if you drive around with the front hatches open all day instead of just at the moment of launch.

I have been scetching a little on making a contrail on one of the missiles out of greenstuff and some kind of socket so it can be placed and removed to simulate the moment after launching a missile.. though it might be a fun challange to test myself with.

That MLRS is wonderful. You could have more than 4 missiles in there that you remove in blocks so it looks like it can ripple fire properly

I'm seconding endtransmission here : I've missed a lot in here!!!

Some random thoughts:

- Ordinatus : Too bad it burnt, but it looked really nice as a plasma reactor meltdown marker... These were large battle damage, almost worth being kept 'as is' !!! I especially like the use of the cities of death building kits, it's definitely in the 40k feel...

- BT chapter master : awesome conversion, and pretty painting!!!

- Manticore : as Arnie_DK mentioned, you sure don't want to know what's coming out of that box!!!

I'll be following your progress with attention!

Well, damn.. no updates since M38 here.
I had to move across the country and then start working at my engineering degree so there has been no time at all for this stuff, most of my things are still collecting dust in a storage facility.

But I finally excavated some of it from the vaults and will be posting progress reports again within a few days.
The ordinatus will however remain in the stasis vaults but work will commence on the shuttle again wich will see a few changes in design.
I have over the winter succsessfully bough, traded, begged and looted a heroic amont of studded Mk V / VI Powerarmor shoulderpads for the marine army that will appear in these pages in the near future.
After much soulsearching I have decided on the BA Codex for organisation purpouses since I do want assult squads as troops and also a chance to field the shuttle in the guise of a Stormraven gunship, however I will stay well clear of the typical BA units like Sanguiary Priests,
Deathcompany, Baal Predators, Sanguinary Guard and all kinds of Special Characters.

Ravenguard was the preliminary idea, even bought some FW stuff for it but then IA10 came out and hit me like a ton of bricks with the beautifully remade Charcarodons.
I have always nurtured a soft spot for the spacesharks since I first took up the 40k hobby back in '95 but the appaling lack of background, silly chapter heraldry (aka the angry meatball) and let's face it; not the best name there is (yes yes, I know. The Rainbow Warriors hade the worst beating with the stupid-name-stick) always kept me from starting up a shark army.

So it hangs in the balance, Ravenguard or Charcharodons.. by the time the shuttle is finished a chapter will have been chosen.

for the storm raven, the turret weapons are twin linked assault cannons as standard, which can be uograded for free to twin linked plasma cannons or twinlinked lasxannons.
It also has twin linked heavy bolters
in the nose, which can be traded for typhoon missile launcher ir twinlinked multimelta.
As a further option it can also have hurricane bolters a la landraider crusader & if thats not enough there are 4 bloodstrike missiles mounted underwing.
Hope that hekps. Btw been following this for a while & tou do some truly amazing stuff.
I cinsidered getting the stormraven and trading out the turret for a FW turret off a razorback, we ahall see.

Well this sucks, since I don't have my camera I have to use my cellphone to take progress pictures.. problem is that my cellphone died two weeks ago and I am stuck with an old one that I use as a backup.
This in itself is not a problem, however it seems like it's sotware is too old to be compatible with my laptop (running windows 7) so I can't transfer any data at all.. datalink, bluetooth.. nothing works..

Thin makes me kind of a less than happy camper. I had made some really nice progress on the gunship, added more armorplating, assultcannons and typhoon missile launchers, air controlsurfaces on the mainwings, new and larger stabilizer fins and started work on the bloodstrike missiles. Even had some spare time to repair and convert a cut-up and busted Landraider from a discontinued Landraider Ares conversion project.. wich looks quite good concidering the state it was in when repairs commenced, drew quite a lot of inspiration from the new Landraider Achilles pattern to repair the severely mauled front and managed to make a great start for a visable extra armor upgrade on that model too.

Dunno what to do, perhaps I can load them onto a friend's phone via bluetooth and then piggy-back the pictures on his phone to my computor.. who knows? Pictures will be up the second I solve this FUBAR technical issue.
