Maybe take a look at Pedro Kanto's Stormbolter for rules? Especially when you have the re-roll ability already, twin linking it seems underpowered for the points.

Yeah it was late when I wrote that and managed to effectively give him two of the same ability don't ask me how (I think I was meant to say he counts as have 2 storm bolters which is the same as Kantor's so yeah) the assault 4 storm bolter of Kantor's is a much better option ty for pointing out my F-up matey cheers

BLACKHAND wrote:Sorry you got scammed but I agree, I like your version better.

Me too to be honest.

My only modelling issue now is how to make my Chapter Master larger than life (well bigger than you average marine captain) I was also thinking about putting him in Terminator armor instead of Arti armor not sure I really hope to have a few more of these guys to show you in the next day or so, it's just been so busy here lately.

on top of all that I am beta testing a new MMO called DC Universe Online which has taken up a bit of time as well but I'm pretty much over the honeymoon effect of it so I'll be back to my regular madness any day now!

have you thought of adding some blue to the base of the flames as I have a fire here at home and have seen blue flames.

I trialed real flame, and traditional flame styles before settling on the reversed flame scheme.

As most realise normal flame is dark centered and vibrant bright outer moving from red through yellow and eventually into blues.

I went backwards having a dark background moving into yellow, why stop at yellow? Well it's bright which is a contrast to the dark black but it is also the original colour of the fire-hawks chapter.

On that note GW has seen fit to redo the firehawks in the badab IA book they have a new chapter icon and a different more brown colour scheme, I have been informed that this is the badab campaign colours and the yellow is still the main scheme only the icons have actually changed on the chapter.

From this

To this

Which makes more sense really considering the chapters name.

So now I have to repaint my dreadnaught....sigh.

In other news, some of the models and parts have been damaged before I got to them I have GS'd as much as I can but in a few rare cases I have been forced to cast a leg or two and a chest section or so, in doing so I have decided to make a custom two part marine to fit the GW plastics in the legions theme,

The idea is to have enough parts to make several combinations so that I can continue the army beyond the old models as needed or simply for the show of it.

I'm waiting on some new GS tools at the moment (hobby shop didn't have small enough tipped tools) but will hopefully have something to show in the next couple of weeks as I should get some time at this during the Christmas period.

New pics will be coming in the next day or so of the newly finished mini's as well.

Santo I too went and bought some new GS sculpting tools, and while they are everything they said they were on the box I find I generally use just one of them and it is pretty much the same as the hobby blades I have been using up till now...not a bad investment but one that you will have to really work at to utilize properly I think...

...paint blenders on the other hand are the single best tool you can get to improve you GS sculpts.

Pretty much the effect I was hoping for an aged beyond anything real as if his skin is just flaking away exposing the bone underneath.

Paint blenders/paint shapers.

Any local art supply store should have them. Check near the oil painting supplies. They look like paintbrushes with while silicone tips.

The ones at my local store were like $2-4 a pop. Not exactly expensive. I plan on buying a couple once I get my hands on some Green stuff. Not willing to pay GWs rediculous prices for a tiny amount of it.

There are some great deals on GS, Galeforce9 does a decent pack can't remember off the top of my head what it costs.

If you are getting paint blenders try for a mid range hardness, they come in white , grey and dark grey so I would recommend the grey. I have a wedge tip and a cone tip and they serve all my needs.

Check out this tutorial thread

My entry is the second one down (after Gits) and it shows the blenders I am talking about

I ordered some from my local Jacksons supplier I can't wait to mess about with them.

In the mean time and long overdue "Legere" (gathering or group/unit) 1 is finished.

Oh and here is a custom legion shoulder-pad I made and cast

I have also put on order the blood angels character chaplain (and a crap load of GS) who will be the base for my chapter master, I will be getting the tubing and rods I need to build my custome SM chest plates and shoulders so I can continue to expand the army past the OOP miniatures.

Doubly Oh I drafted up a Organisation Chart so that people could see where I'm headed with all this mess haha

and if anyone was wondering the Term "Legere Defunctorum" which means "The Gathering of the dead or a large group belonging to death" which is a much nicer translation than "legion est mortis" which is closer to "large group, death" the later can be found on some of the older legion armor and banners.

I have a reputation, Modile, a reputation as a fair, honest man who treats his soldiers well and supports them in the face of darkness. Potentially, that reputation makes me soft. It seems I understand failure and forgive it. Some, like Kowle, believe me to be a weak commissar, not prepared to take the action my rank demands. Not prepared to enforce field discipline where I see it failing. I am an Imperial commissar. I will enflame the weak, support the wavering, guide the lost. I will be all things to all men who need me. But I will also punish without hesitation the weak, the incompetent, and the treasonous.

Cheers matey, stay tuned though I'm hoping it gets better... big ideas in my head at the moment a dreadnaught rebuild the chapter master and not to forget my 40k Skaven who are about to get more rats, a version of mega armor and transports.

Command squad looks great!

Only suggestion would be to darken up the muzzle area of the flamer witha soot effect with some weathering power or if you want to go ghetto, scrape up some graphite and dust that on with a brush.

Never thought about it but heck yeah M&M's are my favorite type of burn.

Gitsplitta wrote:Lookin' really good Santobell. Lean and mean.

I wanted a shooty command unit the legion are not known for thier close combat pretty much at all so it seemed odd to have a CC armed command squad or honor guard.

I'm going to uber old skool it by painting in the burn detail on each outlet hole I need to add more weathering to the models I was looking at them last night and I think they need scrapped and scuffed armor as well as the ages brass look. Once my gs arrives I will be adding flame to the bases and to the flamers etc for that extra ouchy look.

I would love belt fed SB's but I don't have any ammo belt laying about in my bits boxes and making one that looks worth it's while seems tricky.

BLACKHAND wrote:Great Chapter Master, lovin the dual stormbolters!

Hey mate hows the family? and yeah SB's are bad ass and look it. So I though shooty Chapter Master it was either melta's or a rain of supernatural bolt shells so I went with rain, he's a troop shredder. Assault ranged weapons re-rolls and then he'll still B%&#@ slap a unit to death on the charge. I'd say he would work best against Orks, IG, Nids and any swarm army really his lack of power weapons is the only drawback but he gets an orbital strike so meh makes up for it really.

Lord PoPo wrote:Really awesome stuff here, the skulls that you've done are breathtaking

Bone is probably the thing I'm best at with painting it's a simple scheme but getting it right especially on large bone areas like the shoulder pads etc can be tricky. Thanks for tuning in btw

Gitsplitta wrote:Great stuff Santobell! Skull head is awesome.

To be honest I almost cut it off I was ]---[ this close doing it and my little girl came into the room and AAAHHHHH! he's scarey so I kept it that way and shaved down the bad iron halo thing leaving a BA Baracas style Mohawk of metal and spikes down the center, green eyes with glowing yellow centers later he's one of my best conversions I think to day, well he's up there with my master chief and my vermin lord that's for sure! oh and the Airship.

Maybe I should do a tut on the skulls everyone seems to like them??? and thanks!

Update.
I've done his highlights and now I'm just picking out the last tiny details, like the ring pulls on his grenades etc and some piping once done I will paint the debris on his base and flock it add soem burn marks on the ground behind him etc.

Question what colour should his Storm Bolters be? ........ no one say pink!
I think they are red traditionally but I'm not really sure, and should I paint his bare knee in Firehawks colours with the chapter badge on it? (I'm thinking yes).

Ok so I couldn't wait for responses I was in "the zone" ok that sounded way to 80s for my liking anyway I continued my work on the Chapter Master and the results I'm pretty happy with (still not sure if I should paint the bolters red though)

and a close up of his front

I'm using a new light with my photos and it's reflecting back off the GW black paint so the black looks a little more washed out than it does on the actual fig I need to play around with the lighting a bit more I think.

C n C welcome.
