The Broken Iron Halo is a really wild, authentic touch.
My original plan was to have him on a larger base and to have broken wings on the ground behind him (the ones from the Blood Angels honor guard).
but after I opted for a shooting role I went for the smaller base and a more subtle demonised imperial icon the halo seemed to fit the bill nicely .

You are and were right so I did the flames looked too small so I repainted Macharite red then highlighted it with a 50/50 macharite to white then a then a 20/50/30 Macharite Red -> White -> Blazing Orange, followed by a red and devlan mud wash. and it looks Awesome... I'll chuck some photos up later but it really made him come to life and give him a real 3D feel.

@ Miss Dee & Wolfshadow
It's a hard call, way back when you could take rhino transports for the legion, they could have bikes and even land-speeders but after Edition 2 they got chopped back to rhino's and Dreads then again in Edition 3 they lost all transports, in 4th Ed they had Dreads only and had assault squads. Now the only list for them is an old one which also has no vehicles listed other than the dread. That said in all recent cases the Legion are a supporting force to be used with another army either as an extra unit of elites or an allied force (in Apoc).
Where my list is based on the recent (though out of date) Apocalypse listing I am in the mood for adding extras i.e. my Chapter Master so in this spirit I was thinking of doing something but I'm not sure what, maybe something completely left-field for the army like drop pods.
The only other issue I have with tanks etc is the fine line they walk from an appearance point of view, if you coat them in skulls and flames they look more chaos than loyal (thought dead) Space Marines. so I was thinking of ruined tanks riddled with bullet holes and gouged out lines in the hull form plasma strikes of nid claws. Of course they would have the flames and bones but mostly be old and shambled hulks I may see if I can find some RT rhinos on ebay or something.

Very true, I want to do a Raven or a Thunder hawk, all messed up with flames coming out of it's burnt out engines huge torn holes in the hull etc but the price tag is a killer, maybe I could scratch build one out of something.

Actually I thought I agreed with you wolf was right in a traditional sense of the LoTD but this as you said is a full army and they did take everything with them when they passed so it does make sense that when the Legion decide to go to actual war and not be a overkill rescue unit they would bring the full might of what ever survived with them.
On top of any fluff support for the idea I get my geek on when I start jotting down concepts for LoTD vehicle conversions the project makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop, I don't know which way to look first. My only real hangup is what to make them I do have a Landraider lying about untouched buuuut if I choose to make a flayer I'll need it's bits for parts.
So what do you guys think? What craft/tank should the legion have at their disposal maybe a flying brick Thunderhawk? or a Cobra Destroyer (use it as one of those carryall thunderhawks maybe).
Oh and here is a pic of the Chapter Master with his red SB's and some more details filled in (harness on his chest laurel on his leg and writing on his parchments etc.).

He has an unyielding momentum about him, not rushing, hurried combat feel but a powerful step almost confident... It's the reason I chose the chaplain to base him on.
Having him on the rubble ups his scale compared to his army without lengthy and painful True-scale techniques and the weight of the bolters (visual and assumed) gives him that heavy stepped look while keeping his posture and pose realistic unlike some of the "oftb" (Out of the Box) poses many miniatures including GW's tend to have the soldiers in.
It gives him depth of character which is good as he is a Chapter Master and should have that quality in spades!

When cutting back the old Iron Halo I made sure to leave a thin strip which I then filed to accent the dome on the helmet and the sides this gives it a slightly bulkier look and by removing the halo it also allows the breather pipes to stand on their own which only adds to the feeling of size, it was a must in my eyes to have it as much as I could looking like a helmet not a skull head someone needed to be inside it and it needed to feel that way to me...
What is awesoem is that it feels that way to you which means I did my job just right which gets me quite chuffed really cheers for the comment/complement!

Miss Dee wrote:Red SB's make him stand out.

Vitruvian XVII wrote:Much better now aye. I would like to see a flyer, rusted/ripped to shreds would be awesome as well. Perhaps wait for the StormRaven kit to come out and do the LR in the meantime??
The Legion would not have had the Squig Raven erm I mean Flying Squig no no sorry I meant Storm Sgui... Raven.
They would have had the Hermes transport or the Colossus Lander though.
For those that are not sure of what I'm talking about in that last sentence the Hermes was a bigger than Thunderhawk yet smaller than the Stormbird VToL (not to be confused with the up and coming Storm Raven) craft used to deploy around 30 marines from low orbit and was never made by GW but was mentioned in some of the old Novels around the time Rouge Trader was the current rules list and was phased out in preference to the T-Hawk.
Scale wise from smallest to biggest (transports only btw) goes:
Landspeeder Storm (new)
Drop-pod
Arvus Lighter (new)
Storm Raven (new)
Caetus Assault Ram (new)
Thunder Hawk Gunship (new)
Thunder Hawk (flying brick)
Hermes Transporter
Storm Bird
Colossus Lander
Craft with new next to them would most likely not be available to the Legion which makes me sad :(
Now the Storm Bird and the Lander both carried up to 100 marines but the lander could also carry tanks and support equipment.
My guess is the Hermes became the Thunder Hawk Transporter if I had to take a stab at it's evolution.
All that aside the new Stormraven model had me waiting in anticipation as I think of how easy it will be to make a Thunderhawk gunship now we have a plastic kit in the shape of the T-Hawks front hull section. So to make a long story even longer I will make a Thunderhawk for them but only after the Raven is out and purchasable.
Wow long post

Techmarine would be interesting and terminators are in the pipe as we speak my new batch of GS arrived the other day and I have a bunch of flames drying at the moment which I will attach to the armor that said the new release Carcharodon Terminator from the forge makes me want to scrap what I'm doing and use them instead to get an older armor feel.
stunning mini! and yes he has chainswords under his lightning claws... overkill much?
This is the Stormbird in it's Epic Prototype the little guys around it are dreadnaughts.

It is oldish but would have been new at the time of the Badab crisis not many chapters would have had access to it back then and likely only the big hitters like Ultramarines and Imperial Fists etc. That said a C-Ram in flames and bone with holes and burns everywhere would look just great!

Yeah be nice to make one but it would be the board and not a model and I've seen a game system that has that... still what a board it would be!
This weekend will all be about my 40k Skaven so I'm not sure if there will be any updates for a day or two however I do have a non related pic for you guys to CnC on it's a shoulder pad for a possible commission I just thought you might like to see it.
(paint job is to just show look not to win a comp it took me 35 seconds to paint the shoulder and about 2 minutes to paint the marine)
Keep an eye on my Skave Project for more pics of the Airship after tomorrow as I finally get the parts to finish it this weekend!
