It looks pretty cool, the 'shoulder' of the right wing looks a little bit rough but otherwise, good job!

Very interesting Santobell. I'm wondering if it's just a little big... but perhaps not. Cool sculpt though.

Hey Thanks! This is just a test build/concept it should be smoother once I get done
I have no idea how others do it but I find resin really easy to work with for shaping and filing etc so I made the rough in GS and then cast it in resin the final will be a smoother finish but this pad is meant to have an organic and damaged look to it I just wanted to show the work in progress which is tracking along nicely

It is bigger than the normal pad yeah.
This is the first of three, this one I made larger the idea is to make a few and pic the best out of them, it does in some poses hinder the backpack but in most positions it is fine (just), if you recall my legion of the damned pad I made well this one is only a millimeter or two larger so tiny tiny size difference but it's by far more foreboding, the next pad will have it's wings open upwards and the final will be a common pad with a small skull and wing but I see the wings coming out of the skull instead of being layered over it.

The biggest issue I'm having with this pad is air bubbles wiping out the skull :(

Coat your mold in talcum powder then blow the excess off, when you pour in the resin the talcum powder granules will keep the bubbles from sticking the to the surface mould and ruining your cast.

The voice of awesome has spoken thank you mate I will give it a shot today after I get back from work, it was frustrating to get perfect wings but a big hole where the skull should be I want to get it right on this pad before I start the other two.

Only a Minor mentionable update today.

As a lot of you guys know my Skave project kick started again with the launch of the new miniature by GW, even so the Legion are not forgotten
not in the least bit.

I have begun building the Thunder-hawk well early stages I have some pics up soon once I get the basics under way.

The plan
I had a 3d model and flattened it then part by part I have loaded them onto a bunch of images in Photoshop, print those out and cut the shapes out.
Using spray adhesive I will attach each part to plastic card then again cut those out, assemble the parts and there we go a detail-less Thunder-hawk
then I'll use a combo of plastic card and land-raider parts to fill in the blanks so to speak.

So good....... I'm not sure either but I'll know soon enough... wish me luck!


Anyway to keep you occupied till then here's a pic of the guys so far (well a few didn't make it into frame but most are there).

Yeah it's not working out so good though lol I'm umming and arging about getting a laser cutter for other things if I do I will use it to cut the parts out and assemble it that way form thicker plastics.


Update - Painting continues
The skave have once again kidnapped me and forced me to build engines of doom for them the legion are still being painted I have nearly completed the last ten man unit of marines I will then begin work of revamping the dreadnaught and the terminators who I just want to get right so I'm taking my time.

I have made the choice to go all out on the army as well so I will now be including a 5 man devastator squad and adding a landspeeder and Librarian which brings me to my question.

Should I have a Libby Dread or just a realy funky looking Libby?

I'm with Miss Dee... and besides... you can't have too many dreads... they add so much character to an army (even if they aren't always the best military choice).

If you pick up one of the new furioso dread boxes you will have the sweet libby dread AND the front skull headed sarcophagus that will suit the legion dread perfectly....of course then you will need an AOBR body to attach it to...

@ Blackhand Think the dred would be good with Night Lords?

@Miss Dee - From what I know of Night Lords a dread with the skull head would be great, all the better to strike fear into their enemies!

@Santo - I may be prejudiced but Riflemen are pretty damn cool, depends if you want to use him in CC in anyway. For long range firepower Riflemen kick everything else off the table

Night lords are excellent! possible my favorite chaos army I'm also partial to the Slaneesh rules but not so fussed on the models.

Musings - Drop pods!
I like them!
Wouldn't mind having some...
Maybe I could make a Legion specific drop pod?

Which brings me to;

Inferno pods.
With built in smoke and flame launchers (keeping in mind the fluff of ariving in a haze of smoke and fire etc)
in nromal rule it's just a pod in fun games it could provied cover saves like ork bike exhuast etc.

Flick me a PM with your address and I will send you a couple of sets of the dreadnaught shoulder "blanks" i use for my riflemen.Should give you a chance to convert up the autocannon arms without losing the other dread options.

So there I was...

In my local GW store redshirt talking my ear off about my Skave while I was tryign to remember what dreadnught I wanted for my Legion
my mind repeating the words Furioso dreadnaught please!

So there I am brain on the right page money in my hand and my mouth opens and the words "Grab me a Landraider matey" comes out
then I hand over my cash get home pull it apart start putting it together and finally I go um I needed a dreadnaught.

I blame it on not enough redbull and the terrifying way a 11 year wanted to be adopted after he found out I build the ship.

So the long and the short of it is dreads now have to wait till next pay (couple of weeks) but on the up side the legion now have a landraider
sooo.... Bonus really.

And even better I have mostly painted it so you even get an update as well as my normal ramble

Teh flame pannels are plastic card cut to fit the radar is form an old vindi tank and the hatch is form the back of a Valkyrie's rocket launcher. one door is a symbol shaved Black Templars door
I did this just to get some purity seals on the damn thing lol.

One can only hope Git lol I need to wrestle with the rules for these guys like my old dilemma the only rules for a full force are very old, I'm finding it effecting my choice when it come sto units etc.
One train of thought is to use normal SM army list and just have one uber elite legion unit witht he rest being "normal" marines
Another is to do basically the same but apply the plus 100 points (as the Apoc rules suggests) to gain the feel no pain and fearless special rules?
Both of the above contradict what the old rules for the legion as far as army makeup are concerned. Like I said in a previous post I'd love Drop pods etc but not sure where to draw the line.

If anyone has any suggestions please choot them at me Ork with a Heavy Stubber style (fast and messy) so I can try and come to terms with how this army will be represented.

I gave up waiting for one I order at the store and canceled it, not that I'm saying your's wont arrive but they seem really poular the CnC workshop one is not bad and probably easier to get if you hate the wait.

Ok my worry is I wont do a good Tut I paint (and convert) very much on the fly so it will be difficult for me to put it down properly but I will try and do one later today and see what it looks like.
The colours are;
Bestial Brown or Calthan Brown (basically the same colour)
Graveyard earth
Bleached Bone
Skull White
Devlan Mud Wash
The first few colours go one layered more as a coat
then the raised areas are picked out with lighter colours and finished with a 50/50 white and bone before washing with devlan to deepen the shadows, but I deliberately use a damged brush to
apply the highlights, I'll do the tut and you'll see what I mean.

People keep touching the camera (by people I really mean 4 and 3 foot deamon's called Kaity and Hailey) so I grab the cam take the shots and wince at the results, so yeah some of the shot went a little green.

When I cut the template out I completely forgot about the aquilla I am going to have to cut it back it looks a bit .. rushed.


Update - More detail added still a bit to go, I'm experimenting with damage and paint scrapes etc let me knwo how it looks.







Once I get this thing painted I'll finish off the second Tac squad and post some pics this guy seemed more exciting
