Love the concept since skaven are awesome.

However I just wanted to know if you're ever heard of the Hrud?

@ gloode - Have you?

Hrud are swamp thing fungus reptiles not rats.

From the book Xenology by Black Library publications.

The only mention of the Hrud being rat like was a bad scetch in the 4th Ed rule book, GW
changed their minds on these rat Hrud years ago and went with Swamp Thing rippoffs instead.

My appologies if that came across as grumpy or blunt, I get a bit defensive over all things ratty even more so when ratty is mixed with 40k-y.

Btw...and I mentioned this to Blackhand before, but you might want to check out James Herbert's The City (illustrated by Ian Miller (Death on the Reil etc) for inspiration...I think it is his series of books that kicked off the skaven.

Also. They have Rat Daemons with 6 Nurgelic Teats.

Blackhand. I am still waiting for that!

@nocturne's wrath: Heh if you keep this up, it'll be Salamanders, not Squats that I model dead on my bases

@gloode: Thanks! And I have

@Santobell: Thanks so much, heh you beat me too that Heh yeah, I get a bit defensive as well... Don't worry people, we've done our homework! Which reminds me, have you ever read the book 'The Loathsome Ratmen and all their Vile Kin'? It's really good, and gave me a bunch of sweet ideas
Spoiler:
(I have a digital version if you want a copy... Shh don't tell!!)

@manoknok: Ooooh ok, always looking for more inspiration! Nurgelic Teats? If you just made that phrase up you need to copy write it, right now

-Mini Update-

Hey guys, sorry for no updates for a while! It's been either hot and humid or raining up here, so no priming, I've been slowly painting a rat ot two every couple of days, unfortunately real world issues have gotten in the way of working on Nezumi as much as I'd like... not the least of which is the lack of funds!

I've been thinking about the Eshin Adepts, temporarily nicknamed the bamf-ers in my head as befits their signature abilities... I was thinking of ways of making them actually look as though they were teleporting around in puffs of smoke...
I found two interesting things:

So imagine turning this on it's side, so the part in the cannon is on the base and cutting the long part short. Then either model a guy jumping out, leaving a little of the long part as smoke trailing behind him, or model him inside the cloud itself...

And this is of course from the high elf mage's kit, maybe a good bast for a leader?

There's just something about a woman in armor...

And I thought we all decided the world didn't need a giant Rat Daemon with a sickening milking machine attached to it's teats

BTW Love the idea Josh, you have to have Rat Ninjas appearing in clouds of inky smoke! Did you ever see any of the art work from the japanese themed Magic expansion (excuse me if that was all jabber) they had some really nice nezumi ninjas that may help inspiration wise.... Clan Eshin was supposed to have learnt their sneaky arts in far Cathay after all.

@manoknok: From Armorcast, they have a great range of 'Cinematic Effects' for things like cannons, missile launchers, slime spitters etc...

@nocturne's wrath: Heh fly me out to the Netherlands and sure! (if your little flag is correct )

@bigmek35: Thanks! Slow progress slogging through my warriors... I want new stuff to play with!!

@BLACKHAND: The world always needs demonic teats. End of story.
All seriousness aside, yes! That was my favorite expansion for Magic and I actually went out and purchased some cards of their Nezumi for inspiration Oh! And the same offer for Santobell goes for you, 'Loathsome Ratmen' is a really interesting read if you don't have it

@Santobell: Oh my sweet jeebus, what is that thing? Well I know it's a raider using a ton of Skaven bits to looks wicked cool, but what is that thing?? Do you know what they count it as?

@ Josh - I have it in hard cover, brilliant read all be it disturbingly scary.

I think it's used as a ravager (I think I got that name right). judging from the comments on the page. whatever it is, it needs to be nuked from space.

Hrud image is indeed from xenology, it has been talked about literally dozens of times by now and still the debate rages whether or not Black Library is canon and etc

I think the main reason for the change was the transitional period in which GW wanted 40k to be more separated from fantasy

Sure do own the book, it's old been about for years.
Page 77 through to page 82 deals with the Hrud. the article includes an autopsy report, pics and some personal
experience letters and ship logs etc, covering everything from habitat to pyshiology, weapons, technology and religion.
(they worship twisted versions of the eldar gods btw).

They have some similar traits but are not Skaven in space.

@Santobell
Never claimed they were "skaven in space."
And please don't (if it seemed so) think I am defending the "it's space-skaven" movement, I'm not, however I believe GWs whole "it's not just warhammer in space movement" have left some stuff relatively unclear, among others the whole "who is the Hrud actually" issue.

@Kenshin620
I knew the image from xenology, I read up on my fluff when I'm bored.
I was under the same impression from what I've read about them

@joshoftheforest
I completely forgot to praise you awesome modelling skills in my first post, true story.
The raider also was very nicely made, mad props for that one.

If you want some knowledge on the Hrud without dropping some cash, there was a 40k Lore article written about them on Bell of Lost Souls.......

Here it is:

@Moltar
Nice article, draws out some good points about them.

I read the Xenology about them earlier, which was also nicely explanatory.

This is the actual page from Xenology

And this is the fine print which the picture has:
"Speculative artists impression of a Hrud, minus typical shroud, as taken from various supposed eye witness accounts"
Which means we still don't really know how they actually look when alive. (Though we know a bit about their physiology.)

Please ignore the following at will as I'm just doing this for the sake of my own belief that Hrud are related to skaven more than should be acknowledged.

@ Gloode - Np at all matey, nice speculation on that last pic, He looks quite mickey mouse

Heres the page in question that is linked ot the last pic you linked it's an awesome read for thosewho have not seen it.
Spoiler:

All things said it would be nice if they were skaven honestly that would fix a lot of confusion and alow everyone to even out how we approach our conversions and armies etc.

Wow!! So much going on while I've been gone! Sorry for being absent for a while, was at a party down in Hampton (the seacoast here in NH) and I'm just getting back into the swing of things! And of course, while I'm gone what do I miss? A Fluff debate! My favorite!
Heh I realize I'm a little late, but as for my two cents:
I know about the hurd, both old and new And my opinion is, even if BL hadn't presented their own interpretation, and GW had confirmed that there were, essentially, Skaven in Spaaaaaace, I would probably still be making the Nezumi exactly as I wanted The Nezumi are my attempts to take a design ascetic that I love from Warhamer Fantasy and put it into the game that I play more, and in so doing create my own history and fluff I think I'm gonna start posting some of said fluff in this thread, heh if for no other reason than to keep something interesting going on between updates
But yeah, that's my bit So I guess in a way, I'm glad GW has never expounded on the Hurd as Skaven, because it allows me to do whatever I please with them, no offense Santobell, but I kind of like the fact that we can all do something completely different, and no one is 'wrong'...

All that aside, thank you al for you kind words! I'll hopefully have the Raider primed tonight, and if I have time I might start working on the Voidraven... at the very least, I'll see about getting some concept ideas up...

One quick question though, does anyone know where I might be able to find Balsa Wood in the states? Specifically I had these square dowels (can you call then dowels if they're square?) of varying sizes, that I used to make the Raider... and that my local craft store has stopped supplying... And I really like them as a material to work with...

There's just something about a woman in armor...

@Josh - Got a Toy store nearbye, Toys R us etc tend to have a big squarebin of the stuff near all the scale kits often shoved in the back of the store. otherwise balsa can be picked up fromjust about
any hardware store (gardening store not sure if you guys call them anythign odd over there) same place that will sell you hammers and tools will almost always have balsa and a small crafts section.
