Hah, I hear ya i was ok with the fists too. I'm glad i tried it though and he's definitely closer to what i had in my head for him. I'm hoping some good shading will make them look better too.

Great stuff, FPS! Very inspiring to say the least. I love your solution to the big bellies. Looking forward to your progression on this army.

First of all, let me say that the work you're doing is amazing. I'm in awe of anyone who can do that kind of work with Green Stuff.

Maybe I've missed the explanation, but aren't ogres supposed to be, I don't know, a bit paunchy? The six pack abs just seem a bit out of place, is all.

Subscribing to the thread, though. I can't wait to see how this ends up!

Thanks for the compliments!

Well the idea is really I'll be using the core ogre models and rules to run a counts as frost giant army. I may have explained it better before but the idea for this army preceded the idea to use the ogre models and rules.

I have no desire to really actively distance myself from the GW ogre lore but I consider the project to be separate. This way if I model them different enough who's to say I can't run them as a minotaur beast list if I'm feeling extra savage that day!

Edit: I'll post what I have of my standard bearer tomorrow, it's pretty rough right now as is. Also Monster Rain you made me realize I need to vary up the body types. I'll make the SB a bit softer and see how he looks. Older and wiser you know!

Hello!

Some quick WIP shots of the Standard Bearer:

Lower half, sort of a mid stride pose. Shins are going to have the cross strapped furs that apparently after research Vikings didn't actually use. Not that i care since it looks cool, but hey who says this stuff isnt educational. So i have the straps and ill add fur in between when it's cured.

Upper torso, making this guy a tad pudgier (doesn't show yet) as maybe the SB is an older honored member of the society. He'll have a solid beard rest assured.

And because i know you may lack the same vision i have meticulously re-created my artistic vision using the latest in imaging technology. Prepare to be amazed as i will likely not be able to re-create this masterpiece in all it's glory with my current sculpting skills:

Yea, that just happened.

Bahaha! I don't know why but I hear them talking as if Michael Clark Duncan was in the 13th warrior. Also cursing because that's always super manly. "Honey! It's made from honey!"

Seriously though I really sad because I got a fuzzy prime last night. I have comparatively so little time that this is something I really didn't want to deal with. I'll need to find some simple green today somewhere and strip it.

Nothing ruins a painting mood like that though, but I expect to get some more done on SB.

For him i'll be trying a more relaxed pose but would like to give him a pretty imposing look, like he's eying the enemy down and ready to charge at an instant. Hopefully I'll get the frame done today and maybe filled in, i would really like to hit the ground running on this guy and bang it out. After he's done i'll technically have my first unit!

Here's the banner style I'm going to use too:

I won't be using the raven most likely but i think that flag is pretty awesome and will look really dynamic and fitting for the theme.

Thanks for sticking with me!

These are looking very nice.

One note on the banner, the Raven banner is actually very famous historically. Using raven iconography was very common as it symbolized Odin's ravens. One, in particular, was known as the 'Land-waster' banner. The 'Land-waster' was flown by Harold Hardrada, and was carried during his ill fated conquest of England (it is notable that his men went berserk fighting under it/for it, and whenever it was in danger they fought like men possessed). Viking sagas and accounts yield a number of more occurances of the raven being a typical icon on banners.

Thank you! Yea i love reading those stories. I'm not opposed to using the raven, but i would like to keep the real world references to a minimum. Create their own legend if you will. I may try and use the same style to make a wolf icon or something.

Also i changed my answer, they will sound like a slightly sped up version of Jon Rys Davies' Treebeard from LoTR.

Actually it's the large Beastmen shield from the old Gor boxes. Not sure if they're included anymore but luckily i have a stockpile.

A bit more progress on this guy:

Below the knees should be good. The knife i brought today isn't sharp enough to cut the GS on the kilt as cleanly as id like so I'll probably leave it alone for now and concentrate on the waist today. I cant decide whether or not he should have a weapon or a shield on/in is right arm. I love the way the shield turned out on the last guy but i want them looking aggressive. Thoughts?

In other news, the fuzzy prime is mostly stripped away. The primer is off the GS completely but stills it persisting on the plastic. I'm super paranoid about ruining the GS though so i want to leave it in the Simple Green as little as possible. If I've scrubbed the majority away if i re-prime will the previous coat show as lines underneath?

Just wanted to say that your sculpting looks amazing and your army just has to turn out as an awesome eyecatcher.

I'm fairly amazed that I'm the first to point out the similarity between your second ogre and James Hetfield.

I mean you can't blame me.

BTW that's far from a bad thing.

keep up the good work man!

What about a shield strapped to his arm and an axe held in the same hand? Though that could be overkill...

(Awesome work so far, by the way.)
