In your nightmares...

I'd prefer to time travel into the 41st millenium, find my way to Commorragh, beat Malys in a game of chess, trick Vect into opening a BLACK HOLE IN A BOX, present his head to the Emperor... then unplug the Golden Throne. I would then open the webway portal behind, allowing angry Eldar and Dark Eldar to pour into Terra, capture a Farseer in the chaos and use him/her to trick the 'nids into thinking I was the Hive Mind, then eating both Tau and Space Marines, finally betraying my new insectoid servants to Chaos, allying with Slaanesh and Tzeentch to get rid of Khorne and Nurgle, then instating myself as the God of Potatoes... spuds for the spud god. I would then brag about it on Facebook.

However, that's likely never going to happen. So, it seems likely I'd go as a Dark Eldar if given the opportunity. Hell, I'd probably make a good one given the above holiday plan.

Is there a chance I will die a horrible death in the Imperial Guard? Is there a chance I will be rent asunder by bellowing Orks? Is there a chance I will be torn to pieces and devoured by ravenous Tyranids? Is there a chance my skin will be flayed from my flesh, followed by my muscles, organs, and bones from ancient Necrons? Is there a chance my mind and body will be slowly and painfully warped by the predations of Chaos? Of course, and probably in that order as well! But as I am an Emperor-loving man, I will fight to the last breath to ensure that the Imperium of Man stays safe and sound from the alien, the mutant, the heretic. For the Emperor!!

Do we get to pick, or is this which race best REPRESENTS you in 40k?

If I could pick, then I'd be Eldar. Proberbly Exodite.

But what best represents my personality is an IG lieutenant, probably in an Armoured Fist squad, because I want to join the 9th/12 Royal Lancers as an officer and the aptitude tests say I'm perfect for the job

Honestly I don't think the cause matters, ultimately that one rather large detail makes Eldar rather different from humans.

I also don't believe the Emperor, Malcador, or Magnus, the three strongest human psykers in history (Ahriman could arguably be lumped in as being around Malcador's level) had the same problem as the Eldar do, implying to me that it is inherent to the Eldar.

The Eldar's fundamental weakness is the desire to achieve maximum sensation of everything they can experience and do, while Humans want to become more and have more than they already are and they already have. In that way, we're quite similar already.
What? That's actually like, the complete opposite of every Eldar's goal that isn't a Dark Eldar.

Correct, but that's because the Craftworld Eldar deny their nature and so become less than themselves, or so the I've learned from the Harlequins, but since the Dark Eldar indulge their nature, they imprison themselves instead instead of surpassing it, like the Harlequins have done. Kinda hard to explain, especially with regards to the Dark Eldar.

I should have left him there. He had served his purpose. He owed me nothing - yet he gave himself to me willingly. Why? I know not. He is nothing more than a pathetic human. An inferior race. A mon-keigh. But still I broke off my wings so that I might carry him easier. I took him from that place, into the snowstorm where our tracks will not be found. He is heavy. And he is dying. And he is slowing me down. But I will save him. Why? I know not. He is still warm. I can feel his blood ebbing across me. For every beat of his heart, another, slight spill of heat. The heat blows away on the winter wind. His blood is still warm. But fading. And I have spilled scarlet myself. The snow laps greedily at our footsteps and our lifeblood, covering them without a trace as we fade away.

'She sat on the corner, gulping the soup down, uncaring of the heat of it. They had grown more watery as of late she noted, but she wasn't about to beggar food from the Imperials or the "Bearers of the Word." Tau, despite their faults at least didn't have a kill policy for her race.'

I admit I am biased towards humanity, but I still get to thinking being an Ork could be fun...

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Tyranid, the closest thing to a "personality" you get as a Tyranid is either as a Hive Tyrant, Swarmlord, Maybe even the synapse creatures, or one of the "special kinds" like Genestealers, Deathleaper etc.

Personally, a Hive Tyrant or a Deathleaper

Gotta go with Sphess Marines, yeah, its a hard life, but the whole "paragon defender of humanity thing" is kinda appealing. In terms of actual living conditions, the Tau or Eldar probably have it the best sure.
If I had to go with the "destroy everything" approach, being a Necon immortal would be pretty cool i think...minus the soulless bit.

Probably Eldar. They're one of the only to value their own, in that an Eldar life probably has more value then a planet to them. (Unless its a maiden world or an exodite world) Plus the path system allows more freedom of choice than any other race out there. (Humans usually end up a hive worker, Tau are restrained to a Caste) Ork society is fun, but really I'd prefer not to worry about a Nob killing me if I happen to be in the way.

SM have to say look at life as it is for a human now say you live to be 30 in our day an age you have only lived for 20 really because you spend 1/3 of your life sleeping and to top it off most people don't remember the first 10 years so I would have to say living in the brotherhood and to kill all those who oppose your beliefs and to fight or train everyday sounds like a good way to go everyone dies eventually anyway it's how you lived with what you had that matters any you'll never be forgotten.

Tau. If you're living in a grimdark universe, doesn't hurt to be with a race that has pragmatism and common sense included in their way of thinking. Plus having their tactics of killing things at long range during battles tend to increase your chances of survival during wars as opposed to charging straight into the melee shouting some corpses name at the top of your lungs.

Your honor is your life, let non dispute it!

Has to be human. Being a part of something more than myself is enough for me. Living in a time where I am one of countless trillions in a galaxy ravaged by war and death, with citizens living terrible miserable lives has a certain draw about it. Can I be in the Guard? Yes please.

I'd rather die defending the right for my species to exist than live a wasteful and decadent life. You commies can have your Tau, and the Amish get the Eldar. The psychopaths have chaos and the Dark Eldar, robots get Necron, locust have the tyranids, and the second graders get Orks. Me? I'll take my place as a normal god-fearing human.

Except you are 1000000000000x more likely to end up being worked to death in a coal mine than end up in the guard. The guard is the best and brightest of the PDF.
