Is there a good tutorial for converting Guardsmen to have GW's Plasma Gun bitz?

Although those Plasma guns look... interesting, I would assume it would just be a matter of hacking off the Space Marine hand, fitting it on a guard hand with a grip modeled in it (Or just hacking off the lasgun from a Cadian gun arm) and modifying a "Gripping" hand to fit with cutting/greenstuff.

Or instead of going out and spending 20 bucks on finecrap you could just use my Mk2 plasma gun. (hint hint)

You are in my Special weapons conversion thread after all.

Tech-heresy is what we go for in this thread. Hell one of my plasma guns looks like its come straight off of a Tau production line. If that aint tech-heresy then i don't know what is.

Hey great conversion techniques...but I have to ask: any ideas for getting a batch of shotguns made? I was going to try and kit bash the ones from Scouts, but I'm not liking the results.

OOoooh Shotguns.... The bane of my converting existance. I just cannot figure out a way to convert shotguns out of the Shock Troops or Heavy weapons kits. Not without getting heavily into plasticard or brass tubing and that would go against everything i tried to achieve with my initial tutorial.
You know what Kaiser stay tuned. I'll sink a few soild hours into this and see if i can't nut out a shotgun conversion over the next few days. *meaning possibly weeks*

Anyone else have any requests while i'm at it?

I've seen many attempts at converting shotguns, and almost none of them worked well. Most involve cutting up lasguns and adding bitz to make them look more like a shotgun.

I bought some shotguns from victoria lamb that look excellent for fairly cheap, but that's mainly because I'm lazy.

If you were really good with plasticard and greenstuff, I bet you could make some convincing double barreled shotguns for fairly cheap by using a basic las pistol hand, and then chopping the front half off to attach a couple of small tubes for the barrels.

Maybe an "easy" shotgun would be;

Cut the barrel off the end of a lasgun
Remove the battery pack
Flatten off the top/bottom of the lasgun body
Done?

Might try it when I get home.

I had thought of that. It still looks very lasgunish though. I am working on something that looks promising. Its going to be 40 degrees tomorrow though. So if i manage to unstick myself from what ever piece of furniture i fall asleep on tonight i'll try and finish it off and maybe get some pics up.

You could do this with shock troop bits (lasgun and flamer. Not my picture):

Hmmm...intriguing! Has a SPAS-12ish vibe to it, and the bits required for it aren't *too* hard to come by....

I kind of did what Ross said except I left part of the barrel (the area between the handguard and the flash hider?), I removed the stock and left the battery pack and sight rail?. ugh if i could find a picture i'd upload it

hum, given me an idea though - you could do the shotgun how I suggested at first but use the pipe section from the flamer minus the muzzle part to make the barrels (like the pic but minus the section with all the holes in).

Would give you a double barrelled shotgun and you could use the flamer muzzle on a meltagun conversion.

Alright then folks. I've just updated the OP with 2 different shotguns.

Lemme know what you think of them. Be harsh. I can take it.

I think I know what it is. The holed sheath is cool but there's no slide. No way someone should be holding the underside of that shotgun while firing.

...But this is all great and is giving me hope!

The Mk2 looks like it just needs something on the front. Kind of trapezoidal, with grooves.

-Swampy, thats a fine looking guardsmen. He looks like a proper weapons sepcialist who only gets his good gun out when he needs it. The helmet really suits the sandy paintscheme too.

Thanks Snrub, I found the conversion not to be too hard and having a bunch of GS on hand to do tanith cloaks means that i didnt have to use much for this job. I recently stripped my models old paint scheme and wanted to try khaki out with some browns (A la US paratroopers in WWII color). I cant wait to get his 9 buddies done once they finish soaking in the paint stripper

Thanks guys for the tutorials. I shall be sure to try them out on my IG PDF in good time. A great way to improve the guard is to break up the troops with some variety in the types of guns they are using.

So after re-reading this thread earlier today and seeing the plasma gun mk2 it got my in the mood for some cutting and sticking.
Knocked up some plasma guns, love plasma guns, i think these ones look great considering they are just cut up las guns.
I have left the mags attached to mine, powers gotta come from somewhere
I love the modular/multipurpose look these conversions give to the humble lasgun
I Also think that they will make great substitutes in game once painted up because they will be easily recogniseable with the coils painted blue/green making them stand out from all the other lasguns.

Whilst hacking up various bits making plasma guns i was rumaging through my vehicle parts spares box and found something interesting for making shotguns.
Chimera lasgun barrels... turn it upside down, trim the ends and hey presto, ready made shotgun barrels.
I have a TON of these as all of my chimeras are "set back" converted already not quite within the original remit but an iteresting angle on the idea.

I have also made some of the sniper rifles using 2 lasgun bodies to make them longer, i have also used the tiny little scope targeter thing from the IG mortar in the HWT box.
Again not strictly within the original remit but what guard player isnt going to have spare HWT parts

Very nice shotgun there, I would try it if I had spare Chimera bits.

Hey Bum Fluff. Bloody good work on those plasma guns. They look beaut.

The shotgun looks utterly fantastic. Using the Chimera lasguns was a really clever idea. What did you use for the drum mag?

Amazing. Just, amazing. I've been building up my guard army from non-gw models, so special weapons are quite annoying to create. Yet, I've something like +20 lasguns -> enough to make plasmas and meltas. Meltas though are a bit annoying, when GS is required and I'm not too good at using it....

Thank you!
