Subject: The monster has come, (Tau knight class battlesuit)
This thing absolutely murders Gladius Strike Force Marines, jetbikes, Ravenwing, and Imperial Knights.
Its like the anti-meta gun
Yup. I wish GW would go back to ignoring my army so we stop getting overpowered, badly thought out crap which requires butchering the Tau's methods of war to justify its existence.
First the Riptide, despite it not serving a role in the Tau army which wasn't already covered, at least in the fluff, by their aircraft and Hammerheads and now this and the other one with no arms.
*Sigh*

Im feeling you brother. I play pure Guard - or at least I used too. The meta has forced me to include Assassins (a Vindicaire) and an Inquisitor and even so I still struggle to even draw equal with most opponents. This feels like yet another large, hard, phallic instrument being applied sans Vaseline to the rear passage of every Imperial Guard player out there, once again courtesy of GW.

Yeah, my Tau friend is upset about the fluff murdering too.
Although I kinda like the mecha-theme myself (since that was my original impression of them seeing them in 6th for the first time) I agree that they really didn't need to make something this overpowered as it will be YET ANOTHER thing that people will complain about.
Alot of people still aren't over the early 6th edition as far as Tau goes, and all that hate is going to be stirred up again because of this.

I think Guard players will need robot men for their armies for that sweet, sweet grav in order to stand a chance.

I want the Rogue Trader combi lasguns back. One on each IG man each one loaded with a one shot vortex grenade. Then all will be good.

I think its pretty awesome that the burst cannons and missiles act like the CIWS they resemble though.

I wonder how much longer people will keep calling Necrons OP?
Absolutely no psychic phase and no real psychic defenses, and now every additional army coming out not only gets S or close to (As opposed to our 1/6 chance on one model) but it completely nullifies what makes them competitive at all.
Really hope they change either S or give Necrons a bit heavier firepower / some kind of psychic phase shenanigans if this is the direction they're going.
(Note: Definitely don't mean to whine, particularly as long as CSM and IG and Tyranids don't have a new codex yet, just reflecting on how this trend is really slamming Necrons while we're still called OP ad infinitium)

Necrons are in the weird position of being OP in casual games but UP in competitive games.

OK, so I put this thing together with my vehicle and monstrous creature design rules and it is SEVERELY under costed.
The survivability alone is worth 475 points.
Point defense system is 81
Pulse ordinance multi driver is 306
Fusion eradicators are 100 points each
Tri axis ion cannon is 180.
The system I updated was balanced towards the tyranid and ork gargantuan creatures and showed the wraithknight to be 100 points too cheap. So you have a baseline for accuracy and where the power level lies in comparison.
I based my calculations for strD weapons on the shadowsword volcano gun as a baseline for points so that is where my calculations start when extrapolating points for that level of gun.
Just wanted to give frame of reference for what I put out there
So its like the old Tran C'tan from escalation. Thats where it went! Tau kidnapped(C'tan napped?) or offered it the greater good and gave it it's own battle suit!
It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case.

Scary. But a unit of grav devs will make short work. Not caring about its toughness, wounding on 2+ and it's only got a 5+ invun? One round of grav and its done.
That said is nice to see the tau get a solid answer to Knights and wraith knights.
Betcha 98% of people calling cheese are eldar players.... Sucks to be them. Now you get the same treatment you dished out when the wraith knight came out. Karmas a bitch.
assuming the tau player is not using any interceptor units to support this, which is unlikely...
lets say your grav devs survive the drop and get off their 15 shots.
even if you had 15 wounds on him
its a 4+ invuln, and a 5+ FNP....
you need approx 46 grav shots to take this thing down and beyond that you need 46 grav shots that survive the interceptor fire that will be supporting every one of these....

it has a 4++ against shoot, 5++ against melee, and 5+ FNP, so the cent grav will not kill it in one go.

As I said, my math is designed to have the tyranid gargantuans as a base. This is DEFINITLY on par or better than the biotitan. Which is exactly 1000 points.
4 grav cannons with amps on inperial fist tank hunter devs (Does tank hunter work on GC?)
I assume it dosent....
20 shots.
With 5 of them being bs5
Relentless From skyhammer
So 4+9hits = 13 hits 11 wounds. Can afford to fail 3 of those bit more Likley to fail 7-8.
So sorry the grav devs won't kill it but sure as heck almost. And that's not to say anything about the SECOND unit of devs in the formation. Or anything else in the army. Can't intercept everything. And the way i run skyhammer (2 x10man devs 4 grav cannon each) I have 6 ablative wounds in each squad. Not to mention everything else in the army.
With this across field my drop pod imperial fists - not worried about it. It's gonna be gone turn I come in.
I may take a simaler beating in return from the following tau shooting.... And may not win the game. But a decent list can alpha this suit off the board before it does anything (Wich is not that impressive - I'm assuming any army can do the same to almost anything else if it's built proper and designed to the task)
This thing would be scarier, imho held back in reserve. Wait out enemy deepstrikes and alphas - let the rest of the army deal with stuff then walk on and mop up. It'll also be great vrs all knight armies, or stuff with lots of SH - the task it's clearly designed for.
I love the kit and am a tau player from way back. I've even still got my first printing tau codex. Always preferred suits to kroot or fw, and this just adds sweeeeet to that. Simply pointing out grav will make this thing cry pretty hard.

Oh you guys. Im gonna refrain from breaking any of Dakka's rules about being rude and just let you both figure out why you are wrong on this one.

In fairness, whilst it outguns its weight in knights, it only takes one knight getting in close to stuff it good and proper. I suspect even one without a reaper chainsword could probably take it.
unless the multiple railguns land a deathblow hitm I suspect itd struggle to stop a stompa before it reached it.

No one is factoring in all the tau buff's we'll have. I mean right now with the current rules sure, but our rules are about to be updated. Most likely buffs like every other 7.5 codex.

It would be hilarious if the Tuna super battlesuit was nerfed into the ground conveniently after sales starting dropping off. So much rage would be had.
