That quad battery!!

The officer hats are pretty cool. I’ll have to chop them and glue them onto masked heads, but that shouldn’t be too difficult. Still hoping we’ll get a commissar hat somewhere down the line.

Looks like the Eisenkern frame comes with one officer hat and two extra pairs of legs. ‘Foot Soldier’ Command Squad incoming.

When I first saw your mock ups for the heavy weapons I didn't like them. They reminded me of the poorer aspects of Wargames Factory shock troop heavy weapons (I know there is no affiliation, it was just my brain).

But the painted options like GOOD! That quad weapon made me laugh but I still really like it, well done.

Would it be possible to see any imagery for the Dreamforge Iron Protectorate troops? I've seen the head concept but hoping to see what else is being contemplated.

For me, I think I can stretch to ONE more project you see... Wait, you have spider with ray guns don't you? Oh...

Even better, the spiders have raygun and non raygun options, and will eventually be compatible with the goblin set we have in the pipeline.

Unfortunatley there is nothing else other than the head on show for protectorate troops at this time.

The lack of a trigger guard makes me think of some version of jezail (Afghan or Pashtun style musket), or maybe a Scottish style musket. But I'd expect either of those to also be a little more ornamented.

I only know I bought for 38 bucks the basic raumjager infantry. It is good, they look a lot to me like a certain other companies grenadier stormtroopers.
3 squads of 5 each with 2 plasma per squad
1 squad of 5 each with 2 grenade launchers (their grenade launchers are a bit thiner than gaurd proper, but servicable)
as many as 4 officers of varying capabilities.

Now, I don't exactly know the prices for the dkok grenadiers from GW? But I just put all this together and its WAY, WAY nicer than working with anything resin, and I think roughly you get 4x the troops and free officers for the price. I eagerly await a set of rules printed that lets me play this army in skirmish sized battles with, perhaps, rules to use tanks from other manufacturers by paying for the attributes of the tanks (so that you can basically build your own tank to match the capabilities your model looks like it has, for a number of points.)

Basically. Hmm. So you could have a generical ruleset that everyone could play with -- even someone with a model army from 40k, could convert their units in to deathfields easily - and still (by paying for the attributes various units have) customize the feel of their army? Someday you would have the ability to build things like herohammer or like marines or like tau, but right now, you could take a bunch of historical persions, for example, and stat them out as a rush melee horde infantry of fairly unprotected light infantry .. and use them sort of like the tyranid or conscript units are used in another game we all know.

Or you could take a mainline battle tank model -- measure it out on a chart -- say its therefore X amount of size, times Y amount of armor densite+Z amount of force field density. That gives you a basic chasis's cost (+ some factor for speeds it can drive) and you can then buy weaponry to festoon it iwth, and an advanced (maybe roll a die and hits if its below 5) or basic (roll a die it hits below 4) or unaugmented (roll a die, it hits below 3) or primitive (hits below 2, simulating the whole range from "modern space tank" down to "ww1 artillery piece aiming with a protrractor and a map"

So that I could pick up a model from another game, pay for its size and speed, its transport capability, its armor and its firepower, and viola, I have a mechanized raumjager group where before I have only 1 squad of Raumjagers.

There could be a somewhat generic sprue built that has various weapons and bits on it so that we can customize our officers and our various units in the raumjagers as well. Some kind of vibrosaber, for the folks who insist Luke will fight Vader in knightly battle despite Vader seriously being able to blow up a planet with his ship. Some kinds of various small pistol bits -- lots of them -- and varied, and maybe a brace of lances and various man portable heavy weapons (Stuff that's crewed) but that could be used in not just the raumjagers but in the various historical armies as well.

That way, you could make an updated army with the greek hoplites that could be used in death fields, the game, by swapping out a few critical weapons for space era weapons, and paying the squad's cost to have space era lances with vibration heads, admantium electrified swords, whatever, a few plasma weapons, a few modern rifles, and upgrade their armor to be as good -- or better -- than their opponents like the Raumjager (who are primarlily a fairly shooty bunch).

Suddenly, you can start forming 4 to 8 man squads of these troops and create a game that's fast and fun to play, maybe even put a few infantry serverd heavy weapons ( a laser gun, a mortar, a rocketlauncher = a bazooka and a couple backpacks full of obviously bazooka rockets) .. so you could equip your (for example persian infantry) with some combat lances (a few points), advanced body armor (+1 to saves? maybe Super advanced that gives them extra hit points and extra move inch, even, for more points), advanced infantry weaponry (lasguns on half the squad), and a crew served missle pad.
Suddenly you could make a real space era army .. death fields compatible .. and you could even potentially bring in a couple models (following rules for size and firepower and such costs that you have to pay) and viola, your 20 persians have become 20 space persians, who are centered aroudn a small flying saucer that they may have landed in (which was paid for with zero speed, but heavy armor, and a pair of laser turret weapons, and a force field of value of 2.)

I don't think I am articulating this well -- but basically, I don't care if they are space hoplites whose benefactor bought them a combat dalek to follow into battle (a small armor vehicle of very high armor and force field power, with a raygun and close combat attack, but slow movement)
Perhaps they square off against twice their number of space greeks .. who have no dalek in thier arsenal, but hope to defeat this one with several missle launchers, hoplites in superadvanced body armor (+2, but no speed movement bonus), with vibration lance weaponry and a sprinkling of lasguns. Who would win the day? Who can say!

Point is, it would allow almost infinite variability in the army, a form of customisation that would be not only what you see is what you get, but ALSO what you pay for is what you get. Maybe the american indians end up armed with explosive arrows, I don't really care, but you could write rules to let archers play in space pretty easily that way. Its not an ARROW, man, its a simple grenade launcher that emp weapons can't disable....

Well, its just a suggestion, and my reaction to the raumjagers. I originally thought they might be a useful proxy for some models I can't afford from a certain competitor of yours, however, on assembling them, the idea of maybe having heavily customizable armies like that in a coherent game appeals to me, and the idea of a fairly stable ruleset created by modding the base infantry, rather than "this month, we created this new unit that all you people need to survive in competitive play, and its only 1000 dollars for an army of them!".

Sure, you might make money slower, but I think the customer base potential huge. Loads of people who played other games and have other armies could use theirs right off the bat, needing only to buy the custom bits sprues if they wanted to "space weaponize them" but even if they don't, being able to buy better armor / space melee weapons abilities could make their fantasy era cavalry into something to be reckoned with .. by a saltshaker looking dalek with a bad attitude and a ray gun.

Maybe I need more sleep, but that i smy thought of the day. I think if you got a good generic minatures ruleset you could end up with an army of raumjager supported by a couple of martian landers going toe to toe against some Dr. Who cybermen supported by a couple of games workshop armor pieces (paid for by sizing/statting/kitting them out).

It might be smaller battles than the big, long, slow game battles I have seen recently in other systems, and you might make various levels of enhancement that keep people from going "full tanks" or "its all special weapons, baby" ... but you might not. I think you could make a lot of intersitng stuff happen here -- perhaps even make (on the generic sprue kit) some psionic power bits like psy-heads, or magic staves, whatever you want to have, so that people can say "I pay an extra 13 resource points for this guy to have psionic attack power" and viola, their raumjager army has a psion in it who can mindrip an enemy each turn -- or maybe, even cooler, make him unable to fire by interfering with his will.

It wouldn't be hard to use stuff from games like the dakka game (which has a lot of strange little scifi bits to it) and integrate them quickly into use, so someoen who wants to play can get into it that way. I bet the downside of "someoen might play with another company's army" would be greatly overshadowed by "but they are playing OUR game now, and they will probably end up buying some of our armies and rulebook, as well as the generic sprues they need to get bits to convert the best troop capabilities."

I thought they'd make nicer, shacked with chimeras to have steel legion late war german panzergrenadiers, in plastic. Or with all the para get-up chuck the odd grav-chute on for elysians.

Forgeworld price for a section (10) of regular Kreigers is $110 AUD while the Raumjager are about 55 $AUD for 24.

Eisenkern would make excellent grenadiers/stormies for them.

I'm wanting to clear up a few projects first.

The heavy weapons look good... not my thing personally, but they match well with the Grognards.

Those power fists tho... they're just waaaaay too long. Like, between the elbow and end of the hand, they're probably twice as long as they should be, IMO. The rest of the design of the fist is good, but it just throws the balance of the figure way out of wack. I hope that an expanded Raumjager range will have something more in-scale - a few more arm options for sergeants or officers and some heavy weapons are all they need to be a fantastic (and affordable!) range of infantry, and I already spent entirely too long splicing a cadian power fist on to a Raumjager soldier.

On the subject of the mystery gun:

Anyone else notice that judging by the tube-shaped area under the hammer it appears to be a percussion-cap gun? I can't think of any real-world example that would be a)without a shoulder stock b)that long and c)have such a blocky and crudely-made foregrip all at the same time. So perhaps some kind of fantasy Dwarf gun or similar? Of course, in places like Kashmir or Afghanistan you can find all sorts of esoteric modified or scratch-built firearms going back at least a good 150 years, so anything's possible!

I have a bit of a question in regards to the great war range.

I was and still am in search of fieldguns, the typical WW1 with gunshield / non etc, are there plans of a release of something in that way?
