Well, you know... I gave you guys a bunch of hints several months ago... but no one could guess it. Got hung up on the whole Blood Angel Death Company thing I guess.

Thanks for the link Reiko, I'll take a look.

Very good guess. But it's the details of the project that will make it special (hopefully). More clues to come.

I stand corrected. ALF KNEW... so you guys can blame him (for whatever you've got). Actually it was Alf's graphic that was partially responsible for my decision to do them now... so I guess it al comes full circle, eh?

That, and I couldn't mount it properly on his arm... not that I didn't try... but the whole space marine shoulder pad thing just makes so many things impossible or impractical.

Since I'm not a sculptor... I have to work with the bits I can find. On a smaller marine (which is what those shields were intended for)... I think they'd be fine. I just upped the anty on the figure by 25%.

Man I'm slipping... Got so caught up in this "page 300 project" stuff that I forgot to thank all the wonderful people who've wished me well. If y'all will forgive a massive "quote" post... allow me to rectify that... though I will paraphrase and abbreviate as I can.

Gathering Storm wrote:Oh, almost at the 300 mark! Anyway. I just realised I hadn't commented on your painting of the Mantid Tycho and the MoTF. So...

Mantis Warriors Tycho: Fantastic details with the tranquility camo and OSL. It thematically fits in perfectly, and the gold is a suitable homage to the character's original chapter. Overall, I'd say it's fantastic work, and definitely compliments the other Tranquility Veterans.
Master of the Forge: It's a great improvement on the quick job you did last year, and the details really shine through now (such as the magnetic "foot" clamps which I had failed to spot on the original ). The hazard pattern on the servo-harness clamps are really neat as well. Also, I feel I should bring attention to the weapon change, as the Power-Axe is far more fitting than the bolt pistol.

Thanks GS. I'm quite happy with both figures now. Funny how you get used to seeing an incomplete figure in a certain state of "doneness" so that your mind starts convincing you that it's really finished. It's only when you sit back and give it a critical eye that you see all the issues with it.

I love nearly everything you do it's really great to see the progression of your models and you are a great guy too replying to us all and encouraging us as much as we encourage you! the whole blog kind of puts me in mind of a that bar scene from Star Wars but in a virtual sense :-) oh and we're all mates us in here!

it's also funny that you're doing LoTD! I am also doing a secret small squad soon! damn you! :-) lets race eh!

*shakes hands with nerdfest09* You sir, are an outstanding modeler and painter... and I don't care what BLACKHAND says about you when you're not looking! ( ) Dakka wouldn't be anywhere near as fun, or worth the time if it was all about me. I love seeing the work other folks do & if I can say something to keep the going or convince them to try something new... then it's been time well spent. Usually I end up learning more than I teach, which eventually comes home to roost in the quality of my own models. Um.... didn't a whole bunch of people DIE in that Star Wars bar?? *gulp* Oh and... as to the race... you win! "Slow and Purposeful" does not just describe the marines I'm going to be working on...

HAZZER wrote:Happy 300! love the LoTD idea!

Thanks HAZ! You ready for the next 300?

Meade wrote:True Scale Greek Legion of the Damned Marines? Epic! I'm glad you're not doing minotaurs Gits because it's on my list of true scale dudes to do! I've been working with those chapterhouse kits, In my opinion they either need bulking up or covering up. Spartan marines look great with flowing drapery... preferably that looks like it's blowing in the wind heroically... you should try some green stuffs. I also sculpted some true scale 'chest' armor for mine... looks awesome.

I see what you mean Meade... though in some sense I've always felt the proportions of all marines in terms of the torso structure was ridiculous anyway... the TS kits address this to some degree & I like the end result.

Revenent Reiko wrote:Huge congratulations on hitting the 300 mark Gits! true scale Spartans LoTD eh? Hell Yeah! looking forward to it!

Revenent Reiko wrote:saw a tutorial for blood/gore droplets using fishing line that may work really well for this (depending on how you are doing the tendrils of course...). Would only use a different colour in the PVA (i think thats the glue) for it to be ghostly green instead...

Thanks and a fair point Matt. This was the only way I thought I could "excuse" the TS marines in a normal scale army. Well, I briefly considered proxying them as terminators too, but that raised a whole host of other issues so I stuck with this approach.
