Whenever I get bored of regular 40k hobby stuff, this is where I come... I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing

So I'm a latecomer to this thread, and I was just curious is someone could explain what this thread is supposed to be. I've looked through about 12 of the pages, and quite frankly I just don't get it.

The ghostly marine is superbarific. Though I do hate the stray away from Tyranid Pwnography.

@Rawson - To me, its always a good thing when people have trouble deciding. That way I know they're thinking for themselves. Welcome back.
@Cincy - Its my Painting and Modeling blog. It's loosely themed towards Tyranids and dark humor. But that is just the hook.
In the long run, I'm trying to show people that chopping up models and re assembling them into new configurations yields great success. People that are tired of seeing the same figure with new paint on it gravitate here, and hopefully leave with some inspiration. Or at the very least an awkward feeling and strange unexplained desire to mutilate a model.
@Firecancer - Made me laugh too.
Unfortunately, I can't market them, as even in chocolate they are GW's intellectual property. Doesnt stop me from making them for me to eat, because someone suing over a chocolate sculpture is both begging me to eat the evidence, and a PR nightmare.

@Ysclyth- You and me both. I'm starting to get into a MEQ army, and my peter pan syndrome only keeps those jokes fresh for so long, but I'm sure I'll be inspired to create (and maybe offend) some more in the future.

Not exactly Tyranids, but they'll be used on the bases of tyranids.
I give you: more mutilated marines, and their ghost counterparts! (Unpainted, but as usual the fun is in the modeling/picture description story)
The two marines I classify as "ghosts" will get the same green treatment as the other one did. I like the idea of ghosts just realizing that the body died.
Kind of a "Oh maaaaan! I had a whole day planned!" feel to the situation.

Also: Building a hive ship.

The walls of which are going to be great stuff expanding foam (I'm sure you know what that is), covered in Tyvek (Wtf is Tyvek?), and then hit with a blowdryer.

Tyvek is tightly woven plastic fiber, and used almost everywhere. houses that you see being constructed are wrapped in Tyvek. The wristbands you get at the waterpark and at concerts are Tyvek. They have Tyvek mailing envelopes and Tyvek hospital gowns.
It breathes really well, allowing water vapor through, but is waterproof against liquids. You can paint it. You can cut it with scissors. You can wrap expanding foam in it.

Pretty awesome stuff. When it gets hit with heat, it gets even better. It forms blisters, and stretches and contracts randomly. Looks organic.
Below are some samples of what you get by taking a scrap of Tyvek and hitting it with a blowdryer.
Picture this all over a game board, with termagants poking through places, and a honeycomb floor. That's what I'm building.

I used Jimsolo's advice from the other thread on this, and went the extra mile to paint a brighter white wash into the recesses of the "ghost" marines.
It worked out fairly well. I also went a little lighter on the amount of coats of the "bath" that I give them, so more white shows through.

Have to say, for ten minutes yielding two reasonably decent paintjobs that glow in the dark, this method works pretty nice. The effect actually almost hinges on the fact that you put no time into it. The faster you do it, the better it looks.

I like the "just dead" Marines. Maybe a ghost looking down at a severed head, comically unaware of his decapitated body still momentarily standing behind him. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Basically, get a model with as many parts as possible. Makes the basic work easier than doing reposes on an AOBR marine.
Beyond that, what I do is figure out where I want the bend to be, usually at an elbow or knee joint, and then cut a V where I want to bend the plastic. This way I have to bend less plastic, and it has a back cut to fall into. You can also use a lighter, but be careful not to melt put detail.

Got about a squad of these Ghost Marines. Later today I'm going to go crash a LOTR game and claim that they're the army of the dead.

There's also some other stuff I'm painting up today.

You should mod one of the "Whole" marines and give him a big ragged hole through his torso, like he got on the wrong end of a Lascannon or something. You could also have one with an impact crater on the front (small), with a bunch of organs/intestines/geneseeds coming out the other end (Kinda like how actual gun wounds occur). Or just a sad ghost marine, holding his intestines, or using them to sadly jump-rope with himself....

Just too add the hilarity of this thread almost killed me, i literally fell off of my chair at some of the sculpts.

Really only a few of the have been ... Further genetically modified? (Dr. Evil face) and they were AOBRmarines anyway. This is a better life for them.
The majority of them are just green though. I've been told it's not easy being green, but somehow I think they'll manage.

As a longtime follower of this thread, you had a bit of an edge there. You know I'm savagely impulsive and wouldn't last that long.
3 weeks? Just under 3 hours.

I also made a brush, and painted a whole model with it. It was a difficult experience, this being my first brush that I made, but I think its a great step towards being "the hardcores" when it comes to claiming moral superiority of painting methods. Dip? Never. Wash? Get out. I see threads like that all the time, but I also use those methods ... all the time. And its not cheating. Its a technique. So In order to ascend to the ultimate in unimpeachable positions on the subject, I'm going to fashion my own brushes from hair that I grew from my own bod, bound in dog hair and sealed with tree sap. I'll use dyes that I procure from nature. Gonna peel blueberries and crush the skins for purple/blue dye, reds meticulously refined from my own blood.

While this may make me one step closer to a hermit that lives in a cave and hisses/ throws dung at intuders, I feel that it will also give me a very strong position to argue from. "Oh, you used a BRUSH? That you BOUGHT? No sir, YOU are the cheater. YOU have slacked off of the true path of painting purism, not I." And I will use this obviously very sane, very rational method to defend people that use dips and washes. Who will be able to argue THAT? You can't. You just pick your jaw up off the floor and get the frack out of my cave.
