Oh my! Doomthumb banned?!

As long as it's not for the content of his blog... I don't have anything to say about it, as the details allude me. Hopefully it will not be a permanent sentence.

Now where is this petition thread? I must sign it!

If that's the case I'm sure it's only a suspension. As Reds8n said on the other thread it's pretty unusual for someone to get banned permanently, especially for something so innocuous.

Yeah, just because someone is banned doesn't always mean they remove their profile. I still have GWAR! on my friends list, after all. I do hope it's just a suspension, though.

EDIT: Having read reds8n's reply before locking the petition thread, I don't have a lot of hope.

If someone made a banner thing that said "BRING DOOMTHUMBS BACK" would you out it in your signature? I would.

The impression I got from the mod statement wasn't that he'd crossed a 'temp suspension' line but that he'd been judged to have crossed another more serious line we haven't heard about.

To tide us over until DT or a sockpuppet returns, here's my Snikrot's scrotum. No, it's not an innocent toxin gland, it's a testicular sac. Even though neither Orks nor Genestealers produce taddies.

Well, it looks like (apart from checking back every so often to see if he's really still gone) I'm done checking dakka.
This thread provided endless amounts of creative energy and just flat out cool stuff.
Had no idea what a non-newtonian fluid was before this thread, specifically the boombox fex.
Love the organically painted genestealer and am considering using that paint job on my Nurgle marines. It's just too appropriately cool not to.
So, later folks...

This kind of talk will get this thread locked, and possibly get folks in trouble. I'm all for throwing a graphic in a signature to remember a fallen brother, but it's still the mods' sandbox. We just get to play in it.

Abso-fraggin-lutley. I was all for the "get Doomthumbs back" petition and any show of solidarity for a fallen brother but spam the mods inbox sounds like an idea made of fail and banned......

If the mods have banned him for life then they did so only after discussion and the reason must have been a good one.

so lets celebrate the good stuff Doomthumbs did with a sig piccy and remember the good (and horribly wrong) stuff he did that brought a little giggle to our days even if that giggle was followed by an EWWWWW!

My only issue is how do we know it was a good reason? I'm fairly trusting of our mods and their judgement, but it seems like banning someone without at least saying what line they crossed would be like a judge holding a trial closed to the public (Okay, I guess) and sentencing the accussed without ever stating their crime. At least in actual closed court cases the public knows what the defendant stands accussed of, instead of wild guessing.

I'm not saying I want (or need) a blow-by-blow account of their transgressions, or the mod's decision-making process and individual reasoning for the ban, but at the very least I'd like to know why my favorite P&M blogger got shut down? If we then try to impose our own judgements of whether the ban was fair/unfair after hearing the issue, by all means shut us down ASAP, but at least knowing why he was banned would halt a lot of the eventual rumor-mongering in it's tracks.

Heck, non-transparent (To the DakkaDakka public) banning could quickly devolve into banning anyone who even slightly disagrees with a mod (Even politely) or a mod's friends if you were to eventually accidentally promote an unscrupulous mod. I'm not saying stop banning or make it a public decision. I'd just say a public record (Perhaps a locked General Discussion Sticky thread saying "User X was banned/suspended on X date for XYZ" would work). Just my $0.02...

TL;DR: I wanna know why Doombthumbs was banned, and I'll base my riding-for off of that. ..

Imagine the feeling when you position your tanks, engines idling, landing gear deployed for a low profile, with firing solutions along a key bottleneck. Then some fether lands a dreadnought behind them in a giant heat shielded coke can.

Right now, the only picture we have is what Doomthumbs has said about the situation elsewhere on the internet.

I'll add to this an observation that I used to be part of another special interest forum (unrelated to wargaming) that became notorious amongst that community for having mods with hair-trigger banhammers accountable only to the site owner, not to the community in any way. I was amongst the forum users who felt that whilst the site owner obviously had rights and liabilities as the person legally responsible for the paperwork, there was not enough engagement with the user base to feel that forum membership was desirable - and took our contributions (in terms of content and funds) elsewhere.

I really want to remain part of , and have been considering DCM. I have to have strong confidence in a site's organisation to make such a step, and issues such as a fair suspension procedure are a part of that.
