Not where I should be

Thank you all, very much appreciated. Been bit busy (RL) but trying to keep going.

Question, should I add a mid-rail?

Got many ideas for the new LoER comp, got to get going on that soon, trouble is I am 7 days in to a 19 day stint at work. Money will be great when it comes through, oh well.

Thank you for looking in.

Mid-rail is probably more 'realistic', but I think it looks good as is...might feel a little cramped with one added. Blu-tac one in place on a section and see what you think.....

Looking good.

I don't think the mid-rail is necessary, but as MT said, try one with blu-tack. A thin one.

I agree that it looks fine with out a mid rail, but no harm in a quick mock up so see how it feels. But the ladder does look awesome, i love the up and over part.

Also started on my windows...

And added a bit more verdi to the roof...

Thanks for looking in.

Nice little hexagonal wossnames.

Good work on the windows and roof. Could do with a few streaks from where water has run down them (black or brown wash).

I would add the mid rail.

Thank you so much guys for the feedback, very much appreciated.

Well the Infinity water tower is hopefully mid Atlantic.

Still got work to do on the house, but not getting a lot of hobby time at the moment, so starting work on the latest LoER Terrain Comp....

Sheet of MDF, with a mix of Dental Plaster and some yellow grit I got cheap....

Not bad texture but a bit rough, so sanded it down a little. (Note to self, dental plaster is VERY hard and does not sand easily!!)
Oh and added a little foam board to act as filler, then air drying clay and sculpted the pavement on....

Thoughts appreciated as always, sorry its a bit slow here at the mo but hope to have a bit of time soon.

The pavement looks great. Are you intending the 'road' to be a coarse bitumen once finished? It looks like the road out the front of my house. Really wish the council would come and fix it, my cars suspension is having a rough time of it.

Perhaps a thin layer of air dry clay over your very rough road? In patches to resemble the crumbling remnants of old asphalt. Just a thought. Looks great so far otherwise.

Come drive on Washington DC roads sometime. Pothole central.

Dental plaster is a bit expensive for this? At least your road won't get potholes. It may get cavities though

Thank you all.

Ok update, got a bit done tonight.

First though...

@ MOrdain, I bought some sculpting tools really cheap ones off ebay a while ago now, pictured is what I am currently using on this bit.

Scribe type one for defining edges...

Wire brushy bit for adding texture to the surface of the slabs..

Wearing gloves because the air drying clay picks up finger prints like crazy.

So 24 hours on the first lot of clay is "crumbly" ie you can crumble bits off relatively easily...

Added a few more details...

Just put a dark wash on the road surface going to see what it looks like, may add a bit of road repair work yet, but I am actually pretty happy with the way it looks at the mo.

Please keep your thoughts coming...

Are you planning this as a pure diorama piece or are you thinking you may add a few more road sections to make up a tabletop?

Any clue for what is going to be added to the road? I am already envisaging a burnt out wreck with the former occupants having a final stand against whatever it was they were running from.

Well trying to make it usable terrain, but will probably add a few ornamental pieces just for the comp....

Torn between exactly what you are saying and something way more dramatic, but we will just have to wait and see, after all the road is supposed to be the star here.

I like to sand my sculpted surfaces down with a fine grit to indicate frequent wear. I do the same with textured plasticard. It generates realistic depressions without overdoing it.

I had a friend who made some road pieces out of plaster. Very nice stuff. Beautifully finished. Then a few fell off the shelf. Smash-O. So, he glued them back together, and used the cracks and missing pieces to simulate the wear and tear. Now these pieces looked even better. I'm not suggesting that you drop your piece, but if you do, no worries
