Oooh nice! I've been playing fallout ever since the first installment and Fallout 3 was a good game, but I never bothered to play any of the addons. I might have to change that, looks like there's some inspiration hidden in "the pit".

About the status of the miners: They are still one of my priority long term projects. There are a couple more conversions in the making (more ogryns, the boss and one ganger), but most are done and in the middle of painting. I've been doing the painting on them only when I had painting sessions with the newbs/guys who actually play the gang in our campaign, so that I could include them into the painting process, but in order to finally finish them I'll deviate from that rule. Six of the models are half painted now and I might finish some in the near future. Stay tuned.

Update:
Ok here we go, I finished painting Samarianne, my PMW wizard. A few important things to keep in mind before we come to the pictures:
1. Samarianne is done, but that's not even 50% of the whole project. I still have to finish building and then paint Hope (S' doggy) and the their base.
2. After effects have not been applied yet, I'll have to wait till the rest of the scene is done, before I can apply rust, dirt and gore.
3. There is some shine on the miniature, which is not intended, but my brush on matte coat partly failed me.

And now a couple of months later I've finally seen it through. There is more to do, like I said I'll have to build and paint Hope now, but I'm positive I'll manage to keep my spirit up this time.
The paintjob was a mixed experience. I had some good moments in the end and definitely learned a lot, so I'm not going to complain again. If I did it again I would do a lot of things differently, but that's probably just the manifestation of the learning curve.

Details worth mentioning might be the freehands on the seal and apron. They say "Silentia Eterna" refering to her past life and "Mutatio - Haeresis - Magice" standing for the three evils the Ordo Hereticus fights.

Very nice - though I do worry about the number of crotch shots in that last pic...

I actually prefer it with paint, paint has improved the detail (as if I though that was possible) and really lifted the depth of her.

Great free hand and love the rifle, the scope colour is amazing and the wood grain.

I really don't know what you were worried about …….

Very VERY well done Baiyuan, very well done indeed and then I mean all of it, not just the paintjob. If you could paint up a rat with a bionic eye, a skull nailed to it's head, some usless cables snaking in and out of it's body and with three burning candles shoved up it's butt and then stick it on the base the Blanchitzu would be perfect and complete.

Seems like I'm not the one who's obsessed with Samarianne's crotch, that's you! There is only one picture that's intended to show her chastity belt, the others show her scope/lenses and purity seal. If your eyes are still drawn to her crotch you may use the picture as you pleasure... err please, but consider getting help or a girl.

The wood grain is fantastic, the subtle weathering and edging on the metal (especially the brass-coloured metal on her rifle) is top notch, and above all, the freehand on the cape and the purity seals is impeccable - real, clinical detail. I am envious of your steady hand! I've given you enough compliments on the sculpt so I'll leave that be

Funnily I don't like how the wood grain turned out. I was considering redoing it till the end, but after slapping on some thin final layers, it came together a little better and I decided it was not worth the effort and I'd leave it, even if I'm not fully convinced.

Receipe? I've attempted something similar on my Vostroyans, but haven't figured out something great. I think I'm lacking in the lighter tones dept.

I basicly used four shades of brown. One base tone, one for the dark veins, one for the bright ones and one inbetween. I took the shades straight from the bottle, no mixing. Doesn't matter if the shades seem to far from each other, you'll take care of that later.
Heavily dilute and apply very fine lines with your best brush. good tip > small tip
When you're satisfied with the amount of grain (I did too much in this case, there are types of wood that look like this, but I wanted the standard woodgrain you'd expect.), it will probably look slightly off. The shades don't blend together and it looks like you painted some lines on a brown background, which you did.
To bring it all together and make the pattern more subtle, apply a few (be careful or you'll start over from the first step) super thin layers over the whole surface. For simplicity use a wash, but if you're fond of scumbling you can use any type of colour.

What I didn't like about my rifle stock's grain is the amount of veins and their run. Too many veins, too little control of their alignments.

yea.... but other than that i love the look of the model.. the cloak especialy.. i love the offwhite look with the red trim

For the string of beads:
Form an apropriately thick roll of GS, then sculpt the segments by rolling it with your blade or sculpting tool. The result will look like a segmented tube, now carefully pull at both ends and the segments will stretch and take on a rounder shape, don't overdo it.

Nope, rotten flesh actually, layered thinly directly onto the black primer until it had proper highlights and shadows and then I stained it with sepia wash and added more shadow and weathering with devlan mud.
