I don't use the channels in the Necromunda bulkheads on any of my projects. I cut and sand off ALL of the tabs on the bulkheads and glue the plasticard directly to the top of the flat part of the plastic bulkhead. Otherwise it's too flimsy in the channel for my tastes, too easy to disconnect. I do not intend on ever taking these apart, these are permanent terrain pieces intended to hold up for gaming. I've just had two games of Necromunda tonight and thought I'd check you (read terrain) out before bed. I really envy you not having to flat pack your terrain.
The curved tunnels look really good and would be ace to play over. The only question I have is how you're planning on actually integrating them into your games/table? What is the incentive of moving into a tunnel with a lack of cover?

So. My day started very nciely, and then went rapidly down hill. So, I'm going to make myself feel better by showing off some terrain bitz that I have been hoarding.

Also, WRT to the curved tunnel pieces, I think the floor should be 2" wide, and the ceiling should only curve over to form a 'lip' of about 1" wide. In that way, if you were to run this along the edge of a table, fingers would fit into the 'tunnel'. I also agree with some commenters that there should be a purpose, such as by-passing something nasty. However, the fact that your opponent will be aware of your tunnel movement means that the tunnels will quickly become a deathtrap. So, I'd suggest having two 'tunnels' from either end of the board leading into a larger room or complex, presuming you go with the idea of having the tunnels run along the edge of a board, sub-surface.

OMG that stuff looks awesome, whatever it is!! I want it! lol
Man i totally see what you mean. This is bugging me too. THis kind of indecision on my part is just stalling the whole works. I really want to make this work, but the construction of the plywood support is crucial if this is gonna work. That is the one thing I can't seem to make anyone understand. I can't have different width tunnels and have the structure support stay intact. I cannot have 1 inch top of tunnels and 2 inch lower platforms, it will just look like a stupid box when it's done, not a tunnel. The entire illusion of a tunnel is all dependant on it actually looking like a tunnel, meaning a hemispherical brickwork inside a square box.
I may not be able to pull this one off I'm afraid. Automatically Appended Next Post: PROOF:
This looks stupid. I'm not going to do this if it is going to look stupid.

I agree with you that your mockup shows us that design is truly sub-optimal. I think I'm going to have to build my own mock-up or sketch to show what I'm seeing in my mind's eye.

Build it like that, but put the top piece so that the wall is in it's middle. More like how the top was done originally, while keeping the bottom like this. That will give you half the ceiling and more playable surface. Does that help at all or is that an old idea at this point?

I think the concept is really good Dstein but for me the problem is the barrel vault section is too small, and the curve needs to project over the top more.
hope that makes sense.

i can just imagine this beast rolling into an underground mechanicus station , probably late though and no space left

Thanks guys, but it is a simple matter of physics that we have here.
At first I made the I-shaped box, giving a 1.5" tunnel.
Then everyone insisted that I need 2" of walkway, so I constructed the 3" box with the 2" platform.
Then everyone likes the 1" tunnel better. Now it is suggested that I give it 2" of platform and only 1.5" of tunnel radius:
THE PLYWOOD BOX is either 3 inches deep or 1.5 inches deep depending on how you construct it. I-Shaped or U-Shaped
Modeling a full tunnel might look cool but it is completely impractical for gaming since you can't move a mini! SO we MUST model a cross-section of a tunnel.
With a 3" box this will only look right with a 3" radius tunnel. (as seen by the mock-ups) YOU CAN NEVER EVER EVER fit a 2" walkway into a 1.5" box! It just cannot happen, 2" CANNOT fit into 1.5" of space! Does ANYONE get this?
And trains are wonderful ideas, but these are NOT train tunnels, they are just simple sewer tunnels. This whole thing is turning out to be a complete failure of an idea precisely because it needs explaining! And train tunnels are are never going to happen unless some standard way of constructing the tunnels THAT WORKS is arrived at.
So please, forget about trains, subways, stations, damaged sections, caved-in sections etc.for the time being, none of this is going to happen on any scale if the idea of the playable tunnel from the board edges doesn't work in the first place.

Mate, you are doing a great job. If the wider tunnel works, it would get my vote purely as it provides you with more space.
However you are the one making this and the best placed to decide on the practicalities of build. Whatever the result the rest of 'us' are going to drool over it.

i think the 3" section would also mean you loose too much structural integrety... meaning you might get RL cave ins and that is the least we want to happen to such a cool concept!
tell you what... do the 1.5" section as you started from the beginning... deathtrap or no... we have to remeber it can work ingame both ways so this would only exploited in the first game... in later games the learning curve would show the players that you have to adopt to counterstrategies... so narrow tunnels are a go! some times i just have to have a good nights sleep about such a problem. did i make myself clear here?
cheers vik...
and mate we don´t question your abilities no way here we just like to dream with you an unbelievable dream and you make it happen! so make it happen the way you see fit!

only takked about me mate...
what we all have to remind ourselves here is that you are the man at the desk doing all these wonders... of course we would love to see all the things we mentioned here but you have to be able to build them with what you ahve atm... so it is ultimatly your choice and decision...i think the thing with the train was just overenthusiasm... it tends to happen on the net... and then the written word thing... oh so many ways to misinterpret... i think you are doing a really good job here and keep us amazed... sometimes it takes us beyond good measures and this is when we crack^^
sleep was good for me to realize that some things are to be taken as they are... and realizing what really looks good... the things we are able to do and not hunt after undoable deeds... that gets us just frustrated and if we keep on trucking in that direction we begin to dislike the hobby... heavens forbid this so...to make a long rant not much shorter... i wuld love to see your 1.5" tunnels and be there when you fill it with life!

Haha, I forgot it was 2011 and I can read dakka from my phone wherever I am. Especially in a funeral home
Both figures are from Reaper's Chronoscope line. It's just a bunch of characters from different time periods, I am not aware of any specific rule set or fluff they belong to, just always the coolest minis from Reaper. I of course removed their puny life-sized weapons and gave them properly pinned oversized 40k pistols.
Yep, My thread and I are both trainwrecks!
Hey, look what I picked up today while popping into a hobby shop?
It looks like my Catachans just got a new Artillery Regiment!
A quick look at the endless possibilities of the sprues. Everything is of course HUGE at 1:32 but 40k scale is big anyways.
Funny how those grunts are lacking any radioactive gear.
This was actually built by the US Army in the 1950s.
The strategy seems so bizzare now, but they ACTUALLY thought they could launch small tactical nukes and then march troops right in afterwards to mop up!
