Why don't you have time anymore?

Job, wife, 9 month old... all means no time for the modeling part of the hobby.

With a new FLGS opening right next to my house I do however seen more gaming in my life. Already itching to play.

Who knows maybe someone will make me independently wealthy and I will have nothing but time. Or perhaps in 12 or so years my daughter will want to play.

Don't do something you'll regret in a few years. If you don't need the money, just pack the stuff up in boxes and store it away. I'd hate to see you get rid of everything just because life has you by the shorties right now. I've done it myself before, and regretted it each time.

Money isn't the issue, my new job has almost doubled my income. It's more along the lines of if I was to let the FLGS use it I'd feel better selling it because it would soften the blow if something was to happen to it.

It's like making an amazing meal and not having anyone to share it with if that makes any sense.

Thanks for the feedback and concern!

Sad to hear you don't have time any more. It was always a pleasure to catch up with your terrain.

Thanks fellas! I know that it will continue at some point. My wife and I are buying a house and my only stipulation was a game room!

I have so many plans in my head one of which is a table with a working train and rail yard.

One thing is certain I am selling my realm of battle board so pm me if your interested!

As long as I have Dakka I will never lose hope.

Dave your terrain is making me want to build and make more.

And to those who have gained inspiration from my work believe me your work has done the same for me.

I have a fresh new baneblade and a masterclass book that are dying to be used so you never know.

I am looking forward to finishing a ton of projects and starting new ones but I just wish I had a week do catch up. Oh well a nerd can dream.

Do NOT get rid of your stuff. It will make you absolutely sick when you realize what you've done. In 2003 I sold off a bunch of my stuff and when I started gaming again in '09 I was going through my things and could not find some things I really wanted to find. Then I remembered that I sold them.

...

Box them up and hide them away. No one will ever appreciate them as much as you do, and for good reason. You've put an ENORMOUS amount of time, effort, money, and love into those pieces. You've been a huge inspiration to many people (more than you know since a lot of people never post) and to know you got rid of everything due to a temporary situation (even if it lasts 10 years it's still temporary. Example- I stopped playing in '99 but I've been back for 3 years now). You are incredible at your craft and if ANYONE deserves to play on that terrain, it's YOU.

I hope this has influenced you, or at very least given pause for thought. Please don't do this to yourself.

Edit- looks like I'm a bit late.

Thanks buddy! Your words did not fall on deaf ears.
I sold my RoB board to Whalemusic mainly due to the fact i dont like it. The hills for a city are pointless.
I one day will make my own board that is more fitting... i promise!

Scratch builders I need your help!

I was all set and ready to rock. I thought foamboard was going to make this super easy. I think plastic card is probably a better choice.

The foamboard is hard to cut without taking chunks from the sides. What do you use?

Any help will be awesome. Is 2mm plastic card the best choice. The foamboard is the smallest thickness I can find.

I'm motivated but frustrated. Please help. Thanks!

Mostly, on my phone.

I used foamboard for my baneblade. Repeated scoring, and scarily sharp blades.

aye... graven has summed it up already... sharp blades... and i see you have a steel ruler... and try not to cut all the way through the first time... like ^said... repeatedly cuts will get you a long way with better results!

and i want to see that armored train!

cheers, vik

Thanks fellas. I managed to pick up about 12 sheets of 1know plastic card. I will be using a combination of both.

The crazy thing about my cutting is the knife is brand new. I think it may be the scoring then cutting where I am messing up.

I'm excited to get this train project on track... pun intended.

First car is a simple flat bed to get me started. Stay tuned!

I'm new to vehicle scratch building so any advice is appreciated! Keep the suggestions coming.

I'd advise against foamcore. it easily warps over time, such a magnificent project should be plastic for posterity's sake. Don't try to use thick stuff, just use layers of thinner, standard 1-2mm, reinforcing the structure and rivets can always be made from scrap.

i agree, fopamcore is not really the right material for such a project... and... word of advice... if you build this without a template...keep it in scale... i know how easy it is to get out of scale... my models tend to get bigger and bigger... then you have built something that looks crappy because you overdid the joy of building...

at least that´s what happens way too often with me

The base of all the trains will be foamboard with a layer of plastic card. All walls and tops will be plastic card.

I've spent the day watching YouTube videos on scratch building. I'm feeling good just and advice is always welcome.

the flat bed will be files with diamond plate and will have side skirts.

If you're going to skin the foamcore with plastic, you'll be in good shape! Then the chunky edges won't be a problem. For cutting foamcore without the chunks, get a good sliding utiity knife, the kind you snap off sections of the blade to keep it sharp, and yes many light passes are better than 1 big pass.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Foamcore will naturally bevel too, so cut wider then trim and/or sand down to be square.
