If this is still open I am ready to fail....i mean join

Some surprise might be in store that is not shown in these bits. Secrets must be maintained

I am no painter, and have never really based with anything more than sand so I have no thought o winning. Just some fun here.

The blue-tac assembly of my enty:

Yes, it's just a nearly stock Space Marine. This contest is an excuse for me to start the Deathwatch Killteam I've been wanting to do, so I'm building it with that in mind. I wound up leaving off a lot of the extra bits (scrolls, pistol holster) because I just can't find a way to make them fit in a way that I think doesn't look wretched. Any criticism before I cement this guy together?

Doesn't the deathwatch pad go on the other arm? I could be wrong, but I thought their chapter colors remained on the right.

OK guys... been up to my neck in my son's soccer tournament so I haven't been able to keep track of things as much as I like, but I think I'm caught up now. Everyone's stuff is looking fantastic! Keep up the great work all... oh so inspiring!

For those of you who can't compete, I do appreciate your moral support. I've only entered one competition myself and I didn't finish the figure in time, so I get it. But please, hang around and watch the fun. Encourage the contestants & maybe next time you'll be able to pile in.

If I'd had the bits to hand I may have joined in this one.
I do tend to watch most of the competitions that happen here on DDakka as I can find some interesting blogs that way.
So I will make the effort to pop in to anyone blog that's taking part here (and offer advice if I can) to at least enter into the spirit of the thing even without taking part. Maybe one day I will be in the right place to take part in a competition.

I got enough bitz to try this one and I'm pretty exited to build and paint something out of my comfort zone
I'm using what I have and not sure about all the purity seals and stuff, but I'll figure It out on the building process and I'll use the colors I have in the house, so don't expect the perfect MW here.

Here the MW before the glue.

Here is the build for my entry. Assault sergeant name to be determined later of the mantis warriors. Copied over from my p&m log.

Oh and finally got my mantis challenge guy to stay together. Had to pin him, too much mold release on him I guess? Although the same glue bottle I've been using, the joints are still gummy.

Front view

Right side view

Removed all blood angel icons, placed krak grenades on leg where the blood drop had been. Went with krak grenades instead of frag because the krak has the midline rib on them, which is the same diameter as the rib going around the leg where the symbol was. Hopefully that looks like some type of cabling holding it in place.

I also gave him a deathwatch shoulder pad. Not sure if he'll become the first of a deathwatch squad for me, or if he'll just be a veteran returned to his chapter. Haven't decided on the painting either. Will he be full deathwatch black with silver arm, or will he be mantis warrior green with silver arm, or do I go crazy and try a tranquility pattern camo with a silver arm? Was the deathwatch even around during the tranquility fighting? We're they around during the badab conflict? If anyone knows for sure I'd appreciate a pm

Thanks,
Theophony

@Gits, I'll stick around for sure, looks like a fun ride!

@Theo, Nice build, where are those cream coloured bits from? And what glue are you using that you had trouble with? If it's a plastic glue and those cream bits are resin then that's your problem, you need super glue for resin.

@casey, the chest and head are FW red scorpion mark IV armor. The rest are GW look angel bits as well as old GW bits from Orc range and oop vehicle sprue range. I know I need to get some ca, my old bottle hardened up on me.

Cool, I'm not sure what you mean by ca but definitely invest in some super glue. Plastic glue just won't hold resin at all, if that's what you've used it's going to fall apart sooner rather than later. Best to use the right stuff now so there aren't tears later when your beautifully painted miniature crumbles in front of you.

I've done the build, little pieces here compare to my Orkz , pretty happy about the posing.
Also cut a bit the banner to give It a more Emperor liking look (It is a banner from the night goblin from fantasy actually )

Here the pic of the assembled Mantis, C&C are welcome even in Git thread

Just to prove that I'm not relying on you all to keep my blog alive... I have been making progress on graven's GMS marine.

The irony of this, is that THIS is the figure I built for the one and only competition I entered... graven's Deathwatch competition last year. I just never got it done. So, it seems fitting to work on it while so many people are working of figs for my competition.

I must admit painting him has been a bit of a head-scratcher. I'm kind of feeling my way through it as I go along. So far though... I think he's coming out O.K. I need to do something with the gun which is very blah... and the head of course which I've been avoiding.

Git and Casey, thanks for the compliments, I have to say that I have big plans for a proper freehand paint job on the Banner, something that will be my best job or my ruin

The Death watch mini is coming along nice Git, I find It pretty fun that You're painting that during this competition, exalted the post for this reason.

Start working on a time machine now and then do the model later. Then come back to now and give yourself the model to use in the competition...
