I did a little GSing too (not pictured). Once that's dry I can do the lenses & lights. After that I think it's on to the chipping.

Sorry for the rather pathetic status of these updates guys. Last two weeks have been really busy with real-life priorities. I just don't have any real time to paint so I'm sneaking in a half-hour here and there... which explains the micro-updates.

Began the chipping process. I like the fact that while the chipping is extensive, it's also rather subtle. We'll see how that holds out on the other faces of the vehicle. Keep in mind this side is far from done, these are just the first bits I attempted.

This is going to take a while. You might want to sit back and relax...

I'm afraid there won't be a big "400 page anniversary project"... too little time and too many projects already on the bench.

You weren't wrong about the chipping being subtle. You're like a chipping master or something. A master chipper.

So how have you manage to keep this ~400 page jugganaut going for... well... 400 pages?

Thanks Theo.

@Snrub: Kinda looks like the model's been rolling around in a box for 20 years, doesn't it! Well, if that's what I can achieve, I'll be pretty darn happy. Took some pictures of a tank in a park yesterday that might give me some additional ideas.

400 pages? Hmmm... spend way too much time painting, have great readers, find excuses (like the contest) to keep the blog active - even when I'm not painting, spend a lot of time commenting on readers' blogs, be willing to try new things so folks can "grow" along with you and things stay interesting, be willing to take reader's advice so they play an active role in what happens. Treat everyone like a friend... that's important too.

That's kinda it actually. Not complicated, just time consuming.

I'd imagine the press release would be something like this.
"Gitsplitta: the man, the modeler, the legend.
Read all about the exploits of Gits in this epic 400 page limited edition hardback release. This tell all story about one mans dream and the subsequent reforming of the mighty Mantis Warriors space marine chapter will leave you desperate for more.
With incerpts from the likes of inmygravenimage, Solar_lion, Alfandrate and many more besides. With a forward by the winner of the first ever Mantis Maker compition, nerdfest09.

The Dakka Daily calls it - "The greatest labor of love since the building of the Taj Mahal"*

While the B&C Post says- "Once you start reading you won't be able to stop."**

The Warseer Gazette said - "It's just that good!"***

You can get your copy for the low low price of what ever Gitsplitta feels like charging your sorry arse.
Something like that maybe...

*DakkaDakka did not say that. **Nor did the Bolter & Chainsword say that. ***And Warseer most certainly did not say that. I made it all up. Does that make me a bad person?

I think with all the pictures and length of some posts, you're easily looking at 500pages in a proper printed book.

If people are serious I could look at how much it'd cost to get made.

Anyway, let's re-kick-start this thing! I'm going to repost:

The Great Repurposing Contest

Please spread this around on your plogs! Thanks.

--------------

The contest theme:
Repurposing – that is taking a miniature from one system and remodelling, repainting or otherwise repurposing it for another. We all go through phases in our gaming, and often pretty love-hate with GW. The aim is to spur creativity and use what you have lying around to some other, more current purpose.

The rules:
The piece must be recognisably part of the system you are aiming for. Generic future soldiers used as guard wouldn’t cut it; with the addition of aquilae, they would (at least, at a basic level). You need to provide clear pictures of your base model and bits, indicating what system it is from, and explain what system you are repurposing it for. The more imaginative and creative your approach, the greater your overall chance of success. There is no limitation on what system you repurpose to and from; you can stay within the same manufacturer (for example, Spartan’s Dystopian Wars to Uncharted Seas) or entirely different (for example, an Urban War Viridian to WH40k Guardsman). Crossing manufacturers will, however, be rewarded.

Scoring:
A maximum score of 100 is possible. Ties will be broken by the judges (myself and Briancj). If the judges are deadlocked, I will call upon readers of this plog to vote. If THAT deadlocks, I'll declare a tie, and divide up the prizes appropriately.

Repurposing: Core Model. These points are not cumulative; imaginative use of bits from a range of manufacturers (or just random stuff) will count in your favour.
Core model is declared simply to be “for another system” - 0 points
Core model is from the same manufacturer – up to 10 points
Core model is from a different manufacturer – up to 15 points

Basing:
I love a good base. I’m not going to be shy in including that as a criterion. These points ARE cumulative.
Model is based – 0 points
Model is based in a way that repurposes other items – up to 10 points
Model is based in a way that adds narrative – up to 10 points

Modeling:
These points ARE cumulative. A focus on techniques and designs that are easy to copy/emulate will score more points, here. You're helping the masses make terrain. A unique entry might be something that makes the judges go 'ah-ha, that's a GREAT idea'. This is where you can score points for originality of design.
Entry shows a unique idea - 10 points
Entry is visually interesting - 10 points
Entry is visually distinct from the original Core Model- 10 points

Painting:
Points are not cumulative. Minimum three colors. Washes and highlights to qualify as well painted, at a minimum. Amazingly well painted is something that wows the judges. Roughly, painting scores will be as follows
Entry is painted to a basic standard - 10 points
Entry is well painted - 15 points
Entry s well painted and uses unusual techniques - 25
Entry is amazingly well painted - 35 points

-----------

Weight will be given to people who come up with UNIQUE, creative uses for things lying around in bits boxes!
You may not use creations, and as with all League competitions, show your work. Deadline for entries is Thursday September 26th, 2013. Judging will occur a few days later, over the weekend. There will be no extensions allowed, as you’ve got plenty of time and had a heads-up already.

Submit your "WiP" photograph ASAP here in The Ordo Bloggit. With your completed photograph, submit an explanation of what you’ve repurposed for.

The prizes:

Okay, so in keeping with the theme of the contest, the prize pool is stuff that you could repurpose to other systems. There's 4 to choose from:

Urban War Sabre CLAU

Wargods Heru archers (and more)

Confrontation Griffin Conscripts & Wolfen repentant 2

Scibor Sci-Fi Knight (Templar #6)

(Although doesn't come with scenic base)

Top 3, and a Rule of Cool prize (to be given to one entry for sheer coolness!). The prizes listed are not in order - first place, first choice, and so on. If there are many many entries I'm going to p provide more prizes.

And the very best of luck to you all!

We've already got some great entries started by Llamahead, ryanroberts and Viktor von Domm. Let's do this!

Here's a direct link to the comp announcement post: graven's repurposing competition. Only for those of you less talented than I!
