Thanks guys. I wish the blog had more going on MW wise... but at least I'm enthusiastically painting... just not marines.
Here's the first WIP. I guess it's more like the box than I thought. Not trying to, just the way it worked out I guess.

Didn't get anything significant done on the dino. Thing 1 and I decided to play a game, then he decided he wanted to try and field everything he owned. He built a legal, 5000 point necron army.
Took me a while but I finally got my 5000 pt mantis warrior army built to match him... then for giggles I figured I'd see how much I could legally field. 6000 pts, no problem. Have a couple of extra heavies ( dev squad & hunter), a 5 man sternguard squad, a dread, a bastion (assuming you can only take 1 fortification per army) and a mash-up of characters and terminators that I couldn't fit into a legal CAD. However if I brought in my two full squads of Inquisitional marines to make a third CAD, I could field everything that was left.
I can field at 5k...
- 10th Company Task Force (love this formation)
- Storm Wing (also love this formation)
- Stormbringer Squadron (think I'm going to love this formation)
- CAD (full except I only have 2 troops as all the scouts are in the above formations)
- CAD (2HQ, 2 TP, dread & vindicator)
This is what it looks like.

I couldn't fit it in, which sounds stupid at 5k but there were some things that I wanted to field in groups and they ate up points quickly.

Very kind of you to say my friend, very kind indeed. Greatly appreciated too. It's been a real joy watching you develop as a hobbyist and a painter over the last few years. Looking forward to more down the road.

brushcommando wrote:A very impressive array of space marines indeed. I love all the RT era armor.
Thanks bc. That's when I started this game so I like to have a certain part of my army harken back to that era.
Eggroll wrote:Wow Gits you've been busy. 500 pages and 6k of mantis warriors! congrats dude!
Thanks Egg, honored that you stopped by. Been a long, strange trip for certain.
I managed to take a photo of *everything* (probably 6500 points), but at that scale the photo wasn't worth much. You couldn't really make anything out & things were distorted at the edges. It did make it clear that there are some models I need to finish. Not just the second LR & Pred which I've obviously just started, but my two LS Storms and the Bastion. Once all that is tidied up... I may actually build a multi-tiered stand that I can fit into my light tent so that I can photograph large armies such as this one.
I want to thank everyone for their help and support over the last 5 years. This blog and the people who visit and comment have been a regular source of joy, inspiration & group therapy. You guys are great!
I will take some pics of the battle. Should be UGLY.

I really love seeing a huge army arrayed for battle. That's the one thing 40k offers that few other games do: the sheer scope and scale of games, with a huge diversity of units even in a single codex.

Well, 2 LRs, 2 rhino hulls, 2 LS storms, 3 pods and a storm talon. I need to do more rhino hulls, just haven't gotten around to it. I don't have anywhere near enough actual marines for a full company though. Polonius wrote:I really love seeing a huge army arrayed for battle. Very true Polonius. As much as we all like to complain about certain elements of 40k... it really has a lot to offer. I guess that's why it's been around for so long.
