Title of this piece: "No words". Warband is looking pretty cool together, I like the non-traditonal fantasy elements being added.

New mini battle report for Bushido! Thing 1 has got my number... I'm still up on over-all wins, but things are getting a bit one-sided as he's added two more beat-sticks to his starter set and I've added two support characters to mine.

"The Emmisary"
Both the Ito and Tengu clans are sending an emmisary to the Dimyo in order to petition for control over rich farmland and the halmets that attend it. Access to the main road is near this small farm. Neither wants the other's emmisary to arrive first, if at all. Both clans are sending their best and most storied samurai to represent them... Itsunagi Ito for the Ito Clan & Kotenbo of the Tengu.

VPs:
1x first melee wounds to other side's VIM (very important model = emmisary)
1x kill opposing VIM while yours is still alive
1x whoever's emmisary is closest to the opposing deployment zone

My Tengu start in a 6x6" area in the lower left, his Ito in the upper right.

Both clans pile into the center of the farm, aiming to take out each other's emmisaries.

Itsunagi stares down a foursome of Tengo menials.

Nuniq closes on Itsunagi in an attempt to tire him out so her companions can finish him off.

Tengu encircle Itsunagi, but can do no damage! Luckily, Nuniq manages to put a couple of wounds on him with her last action, securing a victory point for her clan.

By the end of turn 2, all the Tengu have been slaughtered save for three (including the VIM, Kotenbo) which have taken refuge behind the trees in the NW corner of the farm.

Itsunagi Ito strolls into the Tengu deployment zone for an easy victory point.

Hakzabo gets his first taste of combat and draws a little blood from a swordsman before having an arrow shaft driven through his chest.

Kotenbo is waylaid by a temple bushi and is ultimately mugged and slain.

Victory, Thing 2 and his Ito clan!

Interesting batrep. Did you feel you were lacking hitting power (and not enough mobility)?

Yes and no respectively. Definitely lacking in hitting power. I have excellent mobility, but on a 2'x2' board with fixed objectives fairly close together... that only gets you so far.

Have I seen you post that you buy from Noble Knight games? if so, Are they local to you? Just asking because they had the Rise of the Kage game from GCT online. It has plastic versions of a bunch of the Prefecture of Ryu and Kage Kaze Zoku Ninja in it and it’s a seperate game. The a expansion Docks of Ryu have Jung Pirates and more Ninja. That’s how I was going to jump into the game, buy both and I’d have 6 of the Ninja and a healthy start on pirates and prefecture figs (lots of duplicates too). Can you run multiples of the same fig in the game? Like the guards from Ryu.

And this guy.

I can get the first one in the US, but no US suppliers have the second one. Will have to order him directly from the UK.

I can't actually find any list or pictures of what's included, not even from the company that makes it. It's a lot to expect someone to shell out $100 on spec. I'd rather have Thing 2 pic the models he wants and spend it that way. At least I'll know he'll enjoy painting and playing with his chosen models then.

If you look at their old Kickstarter and scroll down it shows you the 44 models in the base game, only 7 unique sculpts and 3 are ninja. I’m wondering for myself if I can do the prefecture with the samurai named guy and 2-3 of each of the bodyguards. Is that do able or are you limited to one bodyguard ‘A’ and one bodyguard ‘B’ per army? Actually I’m more concerned about ninja, can I use 2 of each ninja as long as the points line up?

I had put in a $1, but wound up not being able to get into it.

Unique named characters can only be used once. Don't think there's a limit on anything else. Ninja have their own faction too.

So doing research...in German, it’s been 25 years since I took 5 years of German and 2 years of French, so take that into account . Anyway most info I got was from the pictures online, but these are the contents.

Rise of the Kage box: 44 figs (though I’ve seen posts saying only 1 of each ninja so 41 figs)
Takashi houseguard “A” x 20
Takashi retainer x 10
Takashi samurai x 6
Kenta Takashi x 2
Shizuoka x 2
Yuto x 2
Katsumi x 2

Docks of Ryu: 20figs
Kouhei
Ghost
Rin
Minato Jung
Yuji x 3
Kausea x 5
Kohanin x 8

@Theo: That's a lot of models. I'm sure equivalents can be found in Bushido for most if not all of them. You'd only need 4-7or so at any given time.

Finished Itsubo, a bushi bodyguard. Can't tell from the pic but this is a huge model. Bigger then Kotenbo (my previously largest model). He's not a "beat stick" in the sense of being able to just walk up and kill things at will. However he's a good fighter at his point value and can buff adjoining models defensively. Hope to get a chance to try him out tonight.

A little Monday night Bushido action vs. Tyler's Temple army. I can put 50 rice on the table with options now, so it gave Tyler a chance to stretch his legs a bit. Instead of the old man on the turtle we had a fox and Rocket's Japanese cousin.

Here's the table setup. New awesome building (temple in center), unfortunately since the inside was an objective I didn't get a pic of it with the roof on. Had two other objectives (red disks with crates on them). Object was to steal the supply caches by "praying" at them & control the temple (in order to gain compliance from the priests to your clan's activities).

First thing that had to be dealt with was this shape-changing, super quick fox. She became bird food eventually.

The scrum for the center lasted all game. Everyone in this photo died.

My two newest figures did really well. Very happy with the addition of them both. The owl (healer) is just incredibly useful.

Tyler had his Toshiro Mifune character on the table! Awesome model. Luckily for me he just happened to run into the only figure in my army that could have tarpitted him effectively.

Hakzabo ended up fighting the rat. I hate the rat. So did Hakzabo... eventually he rage-quit and went into the temple to score the tieing points.

So yes.. we tied. Very close and fun game.

I have a question for you guys... I've really fallen in love with Bushido, but I realize it's not for everyone. Are you guys sick of seeing my Bushido posts? I notice I'm not getting my normal traffic lately. I do have a few more things that I want to get painted up for Bushido, but don't necessarily have to post that work here. I do have a couple of 40k projects queued up that I could begin work on if people weren't excited by the Bushido thing.

Thoughts? I would appreciate some feedback. Sometimes when things are silent it's hard to gauge what's going on.

Thanks!

Bushido seems nice but I find myself not spending the amount of time enjoying the updates as it doesn't have a connection to my interests when I see the pics, I appreciate them and like to see them as the models are really cool and the painting aspect is great! but I'd probably comment on them in a painting forum rather than the Gits thread which has been predominantly 40k of some description for nearly 10 years! and i'm a marine whore we all know that!

Go with your heart. Which should be marines, as they have a secondary heart, so should count twice. Jokes aside, really paint what makes you happy. With other game systems you are going to loose some of the connect with your audience. I can’t really comment on why you need bird dude #3 for your army vs. barbarian girl #2, but would comment on why you took melta over plasma.

But variety is a good thing. While I’m (mostly) not tempted to pick up a new game system myself, you doing this is probably going to cause me to dig out my old Clan Wars stuff and look for something fun to paint for one of the monthly painting comps. Mixing things up helps prevent burnout.

As for lower post counts, I’ve been posting less overall, not just in your thread. Although I still read all the new posts here.

Normally I'd say I'd prefer more 40k please, as Bushido is a game I won't be picking up (too many skirmish games already, no local presence, etc), however you playing Tengu is keeping me from just scrolling through, as that's funnily enough the one faction I've paid attention to and actually own models for (originally for a MFX counts as crew, which might still happen). So it's been cool seeing the bird boys (nicely) painted and in action

That said, I do look forward to 40k stuff when you return to it, but well know that interest shifts and iron should be struck while hot.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the honest feedback.

The one thing about the Bushido kick is that it's very finite. I just ordered what will probably be the last building I'll buy and by my count there is a grand total of 6 more minis that I'll be painting for the game. I'm not saying that I won't some day get a second faction, but since both boys have, or will soon have their own factions there isn't a lot of pressure for me to have to get into something else.

That being said, I do have several 40k projects queued up and ready to go... so I'll make an effort to mix things up more between now and when I'm "finished" with the Bushido stuff.

I will probably still post Bushido mini & micro battle reports, just because I think they're cinematic and fun. The dedicated 40k fans out there will have to just give me that one.

Thanks all. I'm pretty preoccupied through the Mother's day weekend, but hobbying will fire up again on Monday and I'll be certain to get a 40k project on the docket early. I'm thinking of working on a long-neglected Mantis Warrior predator for beginners. Would that fit the bill?

As someone who has been in the GW orbit since 1987, I really like seeing people I know branch out. 40k-grim-dark gets tiring after a while with its same-ness.

This blog provides difference in SPADES. I consider you to be the tip of the spear for the surge of Mantis Warriors, for example.

Also, if I may be brutally blunt, your time with Things 1 and 2 is coming to a pivot point. As they 'grow up', they will grow out. So, right now, I feel you should continue what you're doing, making the most out of your time with them. Clearly, Bushido 'caught fire' with you and the kids, so power on!

Thanks Brian. Your dead right about my time with the kids. My time with Thing 1 is now down to a couple of months... so there's nothing that will take precedence over spending time with him on whatever excites him.

That being said... real life and DakkaDakka aren't one and the same. While my Bushido-related activity will progress unabated at home... that doesn't necessarily need to be reflected here on the pages of my Dakka blog. Ideally, I can manage the best of both worlds... giving a varied and relevant collection of posts and models to my Dakka audience while at the same time fully realizing my new-found passion for this new game with my kids.

My question was more about what people want to see, rather than about dictating what I'm going to do.

I personally will come and read whatever you post because that is what online blogging friends do. I love the battle reports, even for games that I know nothing about. I think I can appreciate the nonGW stuff almost more because I have no predetermined expectation of what it should or should not be. It's great to see you posting so many battles btw. I am a bit jealous.

I think you should post what you are passionate about and we will respond. It may not be in your customary volume but do not let us determine how you are spending your time.

Sorry I have been a bit absent, All the models and kits are looking fantastic.

Personally I do not follow peoples blogs because of the theme, I love all models, 40k is a massive part of our hobby, but I love these other games as much. The models are beautiful and you are doing a brilliant job with them. I read the batreps and enjoy them all, I don't really know any rules for any of the games including 40k, so maybe it is less of a point for me. I just love coming here and seeing inspirational work and good honest fun.
