Life lessons from graven: don't give mucus cups as farewel gifts, spend more attention on lady's inner thighs - these will serve you well young padawan....

Sister's turquoise is at the edge of fadyness (that is so a word, you just haven't come across it before), prsonally I think they're good as is, but Gits may have it with a more vibrant shadow (no fence sitting around here, oh no ).

Loving the colours on the scrolls, but I feel the text on the servitor and Inquisitor Bob isn't as good as say Grimdarkus.

Think you've cracked it with karamazov and his EZ-Boy recliner, just some splatter, text and a corpse - that'll do nicely

Sanctum still looking impressive, and are those some 54mm historicals I spy on the shelf?

It's all looking good bud, and progressing nicely - which is the main thing

What you're noticing with the scrolls is that servitor and bob are layer of grime behind Grimdarkus, so the text looks fresher. I think.

Thanks, glad Karamazov is approaching done-ness in your eyes! 54mm historicals? Nah I think that's 32mm Game of Thrones minis you're spying, or possibly the Helldorado figs on the shelf below.

So I've done a test shade of turquoise.
The colours used, over the same VJ turquoise that I've used on the SoBs left to right are:

Thraka Green
Asurmen Blue
Drakenhof Nightshade
Biel-Tan Green
Coelia Greenshade
Waywatcher Green
Gulliman Blue
Blue Ink (Citadel Classic)
Green Ink (Citadel Classic)
Blue Ink (Vallejo)
Green Ink (Vallejo)

That's a pretty accurate representation of how the colours look in RL. Your views are keenly sought!

Ah, it'll be the Game of Thrones figs then, looked like they were bigger than 32mm

Favoured shades for me would be Gulliman, Drakenhof and Waywatcher, in that order. Seem to keep the faded look whilst still adding depth.

Having said that I can't gaurantee my eyes are fully awake yet

How about cutting one of the blue inks down by 50%? I ask because I think I said "vibrant shadows" and other than the Asurman Blue, I don't think any of those could be mistaken as vibrant. If you don't want to mess with this, I'd say Asurman or Drakenhof in that order.

Following your advice, my gut and Mrs G's independent view, I went with Drakenhof:

Lighting position was a bit off.

A close up on the turquoise:

And the scroll (love my micron pen!)

Base has some fairly low-key splatter and now just needs its Alpha Legion corpse!

Wow, i think this is the first time (apart from earlier in this same thread) that i actually like the Karazamov model...beautiful work graven, the turquoise really pops out!

He's a hard one to love, and is a bit of a glorified maypole. Having said that, I feel there's potential to convert a really interesting GK Ven Dread out of that kit!

The nightshade has worked a treat, I agree. The writing was a gamble, I think it's paid off! I have hellish handwriting but I'm quite pleased with the blocky gothic script. Expect more of that!

Agreed, thats always been my issue with him to be honest (that all they did for such a cool character is cut off the top of a dread and put a toilet on it....), a Ven Dread (like a reverse conversion...) has some awesome potential!

But well done on him, he looks great the way youve done it.

The nightshade is a dream on the cloth, and very pleased with it. Here's a quick photo grab:

Had a nightmarish phone death situation, so am wayyyyy behind on dakka. That, and cake has once again taken over my home life. Still, I have a neat RL situation possibly opening up, which basically involves getting proper support from above in work.

Reiko - walking toilet a-go-go!
Karamazov is pretty much done, I think:

He now has his alpha legion corpse, although I think the flesh is a little too rotten:

I spy a mould line under the arm actually, so retouching the skin tones not a major.

And some details:

As someone who did the conversion (and has the parts to do it again), I can assure you that it makes an EPIC Ven Dread conversion.

Also, I still <3 that tri-barreled multi-melta. Only one in existence!

Those are looking spectacular graven. I do feel the shiny base rims detract from them though (perhaps "distract" is a better word). Is there a specific reason you do them that way?

@ Briancj: oh really... I should both like to see that and see of I can convince you to part with them for an undisclosed fee!

@ gits: thanks mate! I used to make my bases blend into the rim colour, but that looks odd when not playing on an uram board. I like it myself, adds a sense of display to them. Each to their own though.

Sadly, I only have the one, bad, picture.

Used parts from the throne, a 54mm Inquisitor sword, and some scrolls.

Alas, I cannot sell you the parts, because I want to do this conversion again, with everything I've learned in the 10 years that have passed since I built this one.

Thanks mate, and just for you, I'll start with him:

He's grim, if not especially dark Gawd, love that model.

His partner in anti-crime, Inquisitor Girreaux:

Burn the witch...

The yellow glaze is seriously impressive, btw.

Riff-raff...

And the various Sororitas. Possibly, I'm thinking, the Sisters of Sorrow.

Really think that reverse shows the nightshade off well.

Honestly, I went and hand shade all those melta and flamer barrel recesses. Dunno what's happened with the pics...

Liking the lenses...

Not so sure about the hair...

Facially, this one reminds me of Gaiman's Dream.

This one gives a reasonable shot of how I did the scopes. still wonder if I should've, or still should, dark gem them.

There's always one with a mucky thigh

Anyway, pretty much out of my cake-related funk, which has nothing to do with excessive quantities of chocolate cake with raspberry frosting, nooooooooo...

What next, I wonder? Well, my garage is functional, but the really requires the wife and I to spend the weekend reorganising, and there's more cake afoot *sigh* Back to GKs, possibly, and killing chaos. I have to say the SoB have been a delightful diversion, however. Sanctum still needs finished, of course. However, I think a push on the GKs is in order, the dreads though after our above conversation about the mighty ambulatory toilet. Also, It turns out I have all the bits I would want to use for converting Karamazov (bar Karamazov himself, that is) into a cc dreadnought. That way madness lies, I suspect.

I also hope to get some primer, and washes, on my Welshmen. I'm having a game of SAGA on the 24th, and despite this being the worst, most hectic part of the teaching year, I'm feeling positive.
