A good friend of mine, who now lives in the Ukraine once owned Forge World Miniatures. They bought the old ArmorCast molds and had some new ones made. I don't know the details, but at some point after I was newly married and just had a kid (a.k.a. dropped off the gaming planet for years) he got incredibly p/o'ed at Games Workshop and sold Forge World to whoever in the UK has it now.

Here's the sad part: Into his trash bins went ArmorCast molds, complete Titans, Eldar grav-tanks...the works. My other gaming buddies immediately ransacked his garbage cans and salvaged whatever they could, dividing it amongst themselves. Tis a shame, as I said I'd been wife-slapped off the gaming planet and was not in on the incredibly phat 40k lewtz.

No they are barely 3.0 CM in diameter I need 13.0 CM.............

I don't know how I get pigeonholed into these side projects, it seems a lot of trouble to go to for something that will be rarely seen but I had fixated that I would do a A.M. emblem on the sole of the feet along with all the other tread designs so I lose a few days what of it.

Anyway it's a good project for a stepped presentation and someone may benefit from my particular form of obsessiveness.

Now that you have your 3cm version, you could use the shadow from it for the 13cm version.

I have to say, I don't know what's more impressive: the model you are building, or the patience you seem to have with it in your attention to every detail. It's quite inspirational!

This is all amazing. As for noone seeing the soles of the feet, just make sure you base him so that you can get a nice AM footprint on it.

Totenkopf Monocle

Since my supply of tubes only go up to 12.75 MM (1/2 inch) I needed to fabricate a 14.0 MM ring to duplicate the monocle on the A.M. right side. Searching through my scrap bin I found a discarded marker that would serve as a plug. Begin by drawing the strip plastic between your thumbnail and index finger while applying pressure. This will impart a curve to the strip and make it easier to wrap around the plug. Taper the end and hold it while wrapping one full turn. Put a drop of thin set plastic cement on the overlap and draw the ring tight for the first wrap. Be sure your wrap is aligned properly. I needed two wraps for the monocle rim so while it is drying I typed this reply.

You can see a finished ring and a armour right section in the above image. Finding the right diameter plug was the hardest part of this procedure.

This is difficult to tutor as I cannot demonstrate that which is innate with me. but if you look closely at the objects in the images you may see a few co-ordinate lines that I use as reference points. These lines give me a ballpark position of where the various points of the (skull) in this case are in relation to edges, centerlines, peripheral borders.

Diagonal Toes Tread

This morning, can't believe it's Saturday already, I began the diagonal toe treads. These I had envisioned as duplicating the tread on the Lucius Warhound:

By leaving the center of each strip unglued I can modify the center delta pattern at a later date.

Bland and Uninspired!

Well this is rather disappointing. The feet with a homogeneous coat of primer look rather bland and uninspired. I am confronted with the alternatives either to add copious amounts of fiddly rivets and superfluous bits or busy the construction up with camouflage in the manner of Mr Smith.

Rivet 'em up! Your idea of bland and uninspiring however differs drastically from mine, I would consider it a job well done.

Good for the sole

A little humility is good for the soul. In a weak moment I felt a bit depressed how plain the prime coat made the feet considering all the detail installed but it was pointed out that a little highlighting and inking will heighten the contrast. I'm still thinking that camouflage will dramatically augment the features of the model but plugging on never the less I added a Michelin tread pattern to the front and rear toes:

and stuck on the A.M. emblem temporarily for a relative view.

I was in a quandary whether to make the A.M. symbol mirrored as some suggested to leave a reflected spoor (Track way):

but since GW/FW are not in accord as to whether the tech side is on right or left why not both! Therefor the tread of the left foot will mirror the tread of the right foot and it's either half right or half wrong:

Forgive me for asking, but why all the detail on the sole of the Titan's foot ? Seems unnecessary as the TItan isnt exactly going to be seen sitting on the couch with his feet up drinking a beer.

As I've mentioned before all the major work on this titan is done. The few interior components left to do are plug in. So now it is time to indulge myself in a little play time. I couldn't have done this tread detail with the main construction of Luteus still to go but now I am starting the final detailing from the ground up literally and I had alway promised myself to try to design a kickass sole..................

Blackadder, has anyone ever asked, here or on CMON, what your background is that makes you so awesome at this? I'm curious -- do you work with your hands all day, every day, or are you some plasticard-savant IT guy?

I've always built plastic models at least as long as I can remember. The first model I built was Revell's USS Missouri.

From there I graduated to balsa RC aircraft but I was more interested in building than flying so I always put in more detail than required. RC aircraft have a tendency to fall out of the sky at inopportune moments so I gave that up for wood plank on frame shipbuilding. Building the hulls masts and sails was fun but I hated rigging which I equate with knitting so I lost interest in that.

About ten years ago my son got the 40K bug so we started building the IG Russ tanks etc. It was then that I discovered FW resin Superheavies. I finally won a bid on ebay for a really decrepit Baneblade which I prise apart, repaired, cleaned, and restored. About 5 years ago I discovered plasticard and started scratch-building..... Plasticard is a much easier medium to work with than wood so I've found my niche.



When I first started building FW Titans what impressed me most about them was the wealth hidden FW detail. It took a lot of searching to find what the bottom of the Warhound head, waist and feet looked like and I wanted to replicate that detail



It was surprising to me how ordinary the soles of the FW Reaver were. Since A.M. and 40k in general decorate everything with skulls, aquila, Tech 'T's, and banners why not something special on the pads of the God Machine?

Tools of the trade

Aside from the obvious Xacto knife, nail files, needle files, etc........... the most necessary tool to make these reliefs was my cordless Dremel. I rarely use this tool but it's indispensable in a project such as this.

I have a good assortment of cutting files including some dental drills my dentist gave me; they were too worn out for dental work.

In all these foot treads took about a week; time well spent I believe and will complete the detail on the feet to my satisfaction.
