As I have said before, this is absolutely my favorite P&M blog. The work and dedication you have put into this project is astounding, and every time I see the new work you've done I get motivated for my own projects. I can't wait to see this finally put together!
P.S If you are looking for a new project after this (of course you are ), might I recommend a Manta? The FW model is spectacular, but insanely expensive. I'd love to see your take on the model, and I'm sure that if you didn't want to hold on it there would be plenty of Tau armies ready to purchase it.

I cannot believe how much awesome modeling skills are pouring out of this thread. It is terrific and inspiring.

Also want to give a big-up on the Surinam Toad way back on page four... For some reason that creature sickens me so much. I respect the lifeform but it just creeps me out.

Not sure that looks like it could be a valk seat, or maybe part of a sentinel.

Valkyrie and sentinel seats are part of the cockpits. Not a seperate chair. Actually looks like it might be from a scale plane kit and not be 40k related.

Its from the original Forgeworld Lightning fighter, kit came with an empty seat and one with a pilot, you looking for one ?

Warlord and Thunderhawk Seats

First let me thank all that responded to my query as to the origin of the cockpit seat I posted.

It turns out that it is the ejector seat (empty) that is included with the FW Lightning and Thunderbolt.

Warlord and Thunderhawk Seats

Besides the twin seats I made for the Warlord previously I am going to make 6 slightly oversized versions of the Lightning and Thunderbolt ejector seats for my Thunderhawk. Oversized to accomidate the rather robust SM physique.

A lesson to all, don't let your ol'lady trash yer bitbox ya migjt jest need some o' that crap some day.

Windscreens Applied

I know it might not seem that big a deal to some but installing windscreens on the delicate frame was a time consuming and frustrating operation. I made the panes out of 1.0 mm (0.040 inch) thick clear styrene hand shaped and sanded to a precise fit.

Each panel was slightly different in shape and size than its mirror panel but none were more than 0.5 mm which made me extremely pleased.

I hope the camera catches these panels I left the dust on and backlit them so they are visible.

No I've not heard of the Nova Open, it seems I have missed this year's events but by this time next year I should have the T'hawk, Warlord and Warhound mounted on suitable bases for display along with the various Superheavies I have concocted over the years. Then i might make an appearance but DC in the Summer! I'd rather be in hell :(

BIT OFF TOPIC

This is a bit off topic but when I am not working and working on the Warlord I like to refurbish various things and this week a two handed long sword that I shall be using for cardiovascular exercise.

This beauty had a weak tang and the grip was quite wobbly so re-enforcement was necessary. Tomorrow will be the unveiling and if all goes well I'll have a two kilo 1.3 meter aerobic device.

Please don't get your excersis in near your models, made that mistake once . It would be terrible to see the warlord cut down in its primer bad pun had to be done.

I can imagine no finer hands for...Anduril? Or is that Glamdring?

At 52 inches overall and a 40 inch blade it's far and away too big to swing indoors and sharp as a razor (no kidding) by far the most lethal weapon I have ever owned

I have no idea, I got it at a garage sale last week for next to nothing. It had a broken tang. A little welding to repair the tang I replaced the 1/4 inch rattail with a heftier 3/8 threaded rod and reinforcement with JB Weld and it's stronger than new. I packed the entire hilt and grip with 'Weld. That also improved the balance which is now 5 inches from the hilt.

Oh I get it, the sword that was broken............... HA!

BTW Jackson should have hired a 'Smith as a consultant; a sword could never be effectively repaired by pounding the broken shards back together; I find that scene laughable.

Jackson did have a team of smiths working full time making all the armour, weapos, props... the thing with the shards would have never worked I grant you but he was kinda tied into doing it that way by what tolken wrote..

Well that's a really poor excuse as he deviated from the books in many areas for cinematographic expediency. Pounding on superheated pieces of steel will only distort the shape, it will not fuse the pieces and even if it could make a bond the result would be an extremely weak joint probably failing when Strider needs it most in the cave of the damned.

It's evocative of Hollywood's mechanic diss'ing shortcuts to a result i.e. Kevin Costner's arrow head product pouring molten lead into an arrow mold, Spielberg's dumbing down of mechanical ability proposing an precocious eight year old with godlike mechanical ability.

Just remember we'd all be wiping our butts with corncobs without mechanics and engineers. XD

Magic

Yeah I also think that in reality banging bits of a busted sword together would not do anything except warp them and leave you with a big chunk of slightly-sharp and ugly metal, but given that this scene is in a universe with magic and sorcery, the sword is being reforged by magical elf smiths, and that the sword itself has some magical properties, it is safe to assume that they were not just hammering at it and hoping for the best.

I love the idea of exercise with metal weaponry, and I'd like to see what your neighbors think of large swords being swung around near their houses.

Love the Warlord, and I cannot wait for when it's completely assembled and ready to be painted, and then I'll content myself with seeing it get painted up bit by bit. Awesomesauce

That lit cockpit is brilliant.

Small Arms Defense

I strikes me that a Warlord Titan is at the mercy of ill intended enemy ground personnel. However powerful the Void shields are can they stop sappers and suicide bombers?

What is needed are defense small arms weapons firing down from 30 meters in the air relatively immune to reciprocal fire.

Therefore I am adding a fighting platform to the chest shield with egress to the second level of the lower Engineering deck.

Funny how this all seems to work out; the CoD blast doors fit perfectly into the opening beneath the head with minor alterations plus it gives purpose to the chest plate and fills the empty space in the lower engineering level.

Purists may baulk at this modification so they are welcome to omit this from their Warlord Titans.

A fighting platform is a great add on. another, potentially easy modification would be retractable hurricane bolter or heavy bolter turrets, under armor plates on the torso. Basically just plates that hinge out to expose the firing port/turret, or downard facing fragmentation weaponry that would be last line defensive against infantry, assuming the titan is without/has lost it's supporting infantry company.

The tang of a sword or a knife for that matter is the part of the blade that continues into the handle (hilt) a full tang goes the full length of the handle through to the pommel. This is ideal and if you buy quality kitchen knives they will have this feature.

The shorter the tang i.e. a partial tang is weak and a rat tail tang is the worst where the handle has a threaded rod from guard to pommel and the blade ends at the guard. a sword shaped object such as this is fit only to hang on the wall.

My sword has a partial tang extending half way into the handle and a rattail from there to the pommel.

I welded a 3/8 ths threaded rod in place of the original 1/4 inch rod and packed the hilt with JB Weld.
